My introduction to Bauhaus. I don't think I'll ever stop loving this song.
This is one of my favorite of their songs. The way Daniel Ash used guitar effects and tone as part of the performance was light-years beyond what most guitarists still manage to this day. The music melds this swirling, atmospheric quality with very distinctive rhythm, reminding me of a mountain: its foundation is cragged and concrete, but the peaks are enshrouded in endlessly swirling, shapeshifting fog banks.
And don't even get me started on Peter Murphy's vocal performance! So haunting the hair on my toes starts slithering in my socks. Just love this song.
Great guitar sound, designed as if to impress the Bowie who worked with Robert Fripp and his very similar guitar sound.

Great video. This is why I love CZcams. All these fantastic bands I could only listen to and see on the covers of their albums in the 80's are now brought to life in their music videos many years later. Amazing and very appreciated.

Good to see that this is the full length version and not the edited single version.
It's not edited. This is the 12" single format, which couldn't fit on a 7" single. The only difference is the two minute instrumental at the end to fill up a 12". If anything, this is the edited version, as 12" at the time were usually referred to as "dance mixes".
@SOLACE Any extension of the song wouldn't have fit on a 7" single. The 12" with the instrumental is what they played in clubs and such. "Dance mix."

And later another satelite band appeared without Murphy"Love & Rockets" also another great band; Bauhaus reached incredible heights in "Bela Lugosi's Dead" "St.Vitus Dance" "Double Dare" and other great themes,Bauhaus is the band!Far outweighing even -Joy Division-but that is my opinion,anyway.We luv them both here in lovely Lusitania,bye bye!!!

Maybe it's just me but does anyone else think that this sounds similar to Girls on film by Duran Duran? It's making me think that perhaps Duran Duran got their inspiration for their song from this one. I know that Duran Duran is not a goth proper band but they're goth adjacent if you will.
