  • This video specifies the weight of each ball of clay and what size you can get from the clay ball. It also has a glaze kiln unloading showing those bowls on top of goblet stems.

Wow! Goblets look amazing!! Well done. Beautiful form and glazes. I've just got Mastering cone 6 glazes, and John Brit mid fire book. So hopefully I can have a go at some of your lovely glaze combos. Still waiting for my mug. Will let you when it arrives. Thanks for your generosity as always Vaughan.

Hi Tracy, thanks and let me know when it arrives. There are so many good glaze combos but the best seem to be with an oatmeal glaze.

Wow a foot of snow!!! Beautiful!! Great video!!! It's nice to see the finished product. All the glazes look wonderful I'm loving the black and oatmeal fury effect, the bronze stems just sets off the glazes beautifully.

I love ypur intermingling of inches and centimeters a foot of snow one day and 4 centimeters the next. Makes me smile. Im from michigan and we have not caught up with the rest of the world.
Great video as usual. Love the lizard skin goblets.

Yes I try to give measurements in both. I grew up using imperial and then got decimalization in 1970. Then lived in the States for 27 years, then moved to Canada 11 years ago. I am totally mixed up now. Stay safe.

Thanks a lot for sharing the winter scenes & weight challenge! On my last throwing experience of my second one, it turned out, it wanted to be like a ice cup 🍨, not anymore like a breakfast egg holder. My challenge to throw a goblet/snifter/tulip is still on! And for these Your Clips helped me a lot! Thank you very much! There are 3 Brewer in my home town in Bavaria and beer goblets are at the moment asked, because of all the celtic series on the streams. So I am sending a: Cheers 🥂 & Skål & Zum Wohl & Prost! And happy Spring time!

      @@Vsmithpots
The interlacing really were complicated & hurt, you are right, in the beginning, but... if you chance the point of view, this is the key for success, in my case, you be able to create and transfer it, too. I thought all the shapes of Tulips, Snifters or Goblets Glasses /~11cm with a low neck & 9cm wide feet and holding ~400ml - 550ml could be interesting also in clay bodies, with just a simple glaze coat, like some in old times. " Zum Wohl" & Thank you very much for your lines!

Wonderful video and stunning black lizard results ❤️. When I was just starting out throwing, I couldn't grasp how much clay I needed to make certain size mugs and all the carts I referenced helped as a starting point but my skill just didn't match their results. So I basically gave this assignment to myself for straight walled cylinders starting with 6oz increasing 2 oz until I reached 32 oz. I kept the floor and wall thickness constant - as much as a beginner can - and kept the diameter of the cylinder the same. It was a very helpful exercise and I actually repeat it every few years. It is fun to see how the same size and weight has grown over the years as my skill level increased. I also applied this exercise to bowls and plates just adjusting the perimeters. I always recommend doing this for those who ask me how they can determine how much clay to use for a particular size. Such a pleasure watching and learning from you, thank you for sharing you 50 years of experience - passing on your treasure of knowledge and wisdom ❤️

I am glad you have tried this approach before. I did the cylinder lesson back in the 1970's. It is always good to stretch your skill level. Thanks.

what a great challenge - I'll give it a try. The 2 goblets I tried , after your last video showing the stems as well, are pretty heavy and small, more like egg cups!! Your cat Robert was so lucky you saved him; we have a cat with a similar story - abandoned and starving in a barn where my husband was doing a renovation 12 years ago and now a spoiled thing, approx 18-19 years old. Thanks again for this very informative video (love all the glaze combos as well, especially the black/white one.)

Thanks for showing us your home/work environment, it looks beautiful and peaceful! I can only imagine that heating bills are high in Nova Scotia - I wonder how people on low incomes survive the low temperatures. I'm enjoying your shares of your work and tips. I'm new to your channel - did you explain how you got into ceramics and what led you to set up as a potter?

Welcome to the club, I have been doing these for two years. I have done studio tours and talked about how I got into this. I will do it again soon. I get off on tangents and forget to complete sentences so beware. Spring flowers soon.

    • @Vsmithpots
