Just pausing to say, people who drink rum for the first time will easily drink the spiced rum because it tastes "so good". Of course they are very young, over imbibe, then they're sick, and then they never drink rum again! haha. I'm not a rum drinker, but I do keep a small bottle on hand for baking such as the size you're using tonight, Tammy. It's usually a "golden" rum. The golden rum is kind of like the brown sugar of rums. Dark rum is akin to molasses (heavy) and white rum is akin confection sugar (super bright!). I find golden rum is a nice in-between flavour for baking. Spiced rum is very specific and spicy in a baking sort of way. Perfect for this recipe (egg nog and spiced rum is a very Christmassy and festive drink!) Happy baking!

Have you ever tried Appleton's Jamician rum? You can drink it straight it's just that smooth. Sweet and mellow. Hard to find here.

Kathie says : I did not realize that there were multi kinds of rum! I have a 5th of Jamaican Rum and Brandy (bought in the drugstore around 1974) that I have used for baking and marinades. I made fruitcake back then and would store them wrapped in a rum or brandy soaked cheesecloth. When I bought both bottles of alcohol I wasn’t aware there were different kinds!! I just saw them on the shelf and put them in my cart, never knowing there were different kinds!! Now, I will have to put on dark sunglasses and wear a babushka ( ha! ) and go to the liquor store and buy a small bottle of spiced rum to make Tammy’s cake! I was JUST in the liquor store this past summer looking for a bottle of Chinese beer to make a recipe for Beer Can Chicken. I felt as if everybody I knew saw me go in there and the tongues would soon be wagging’!! ( Harper Valley P.T.A ) I went in there and “ got outta Dodge” as fast as I could!!! ha! Thank you for the very fun & interesting information, Janey!! “Yo-Ho-Ho and a bottle of rum!!!” 😂 Have a nice day!!!

@@arthurburkhart3710 I know a couple of die hard rum drinkers! My mom was one, my best friend is another. Personally I don't enjoy it unless it is in a recipe. Since I developed an egg sensitivity, I no longer can have brandy and eggnog at Christmas, so it makes a wonderful splashy addition to my wild rice and chicken soup. :0)

That's the way conversation goes with women....we can go from boobs to rum to eggs all in one sentence and think nothing of it. 😂. That's why we love you, you are always being you!!!! I don’t use alcohol to cook with. Never thought of it. Over the years when you’re teaching your self to cook cause no one really taught you how to cook you don’t learn much about cooking with alcohol.
Now if I’d had you tube when I was in my early 30’s when I was really interested in learning to cook then I’d be in good shape. Did not have you tube till in my my 40’s and did not know much about CZcams till my 50’s. I thought CZcams was for music videos. Found out CZcams is much more than music videos.
So I’m learning so much now: not that I didn’t learn a few things along the way.
You are a great cook Tammy.
    I love your videos/ channel.
I did learn a few things from a military day care I worked in when my ex husband was in the military.
I was put in the kitchen and learned from head cook who was an excellent cook from scratch a few things I still remember today. That was a blessing. Made it a bit easier to learn along the way.
I’ve learned some from you too.
Hope you have a blessed day.🤗❤️
    The eggnog cake looks delicious.

I’ve been confused about Bundt pan sizes for a while. Thank you for explaining that 10 cup is the standard size and that “anniversary” is a specific larger size (12 cup) rather than a design. I could not make heads or tails of it on their website.
I bought a nice 10 cup pan because it was a good price for a high quality pan and the design was pretty. I’ve since discovered it takes the same amount of batter as a sheet cake, three 8” rounds, two 9” rounds, two dozen standard cupcakes, etc. so I’m extra happy with my selection.
Thank you for all that you share and the time and resources you invest in your channel.

When my mom and I used to live in a Navy town here in the Pacific Northwest, she owned a flower shop. It was between a military surplus and a grocery store. When they walked through the mall, past the flower shop she would have rum cake in there for people to just take a little slice and look at the flowers and go on their way it was very very popular. Just about any guy that walked through once he had some rum cake he could find a reason to buy his girl some flowers. It worked really well. I am excited about this recipe!

My mother told me one time she kept drinking strawberry daiquiris since they tasted good and then wondered why the room was spinning. Alcoholism runs in my family. My paternal grandfather owned a bar and gave me and my siblings a sip of beer when we were underage. I was eight or nine years old at the time. I was the only one that liked it. I only drink socially like at weddings, baby showers, or college graduation, and never to excess. My bust has increased a cup size every other year since I was 13 and they went up two cup sizes with both of my pregnancies. When I met Lee I was a 34H in UK sizing. After giving birth to Daniel I became a 34J. When the milk dried up I was still a 34J. I flattened my other two problem areas but my bust still stayed the same size. I became a 34JJ on my own. After giving birth to Thomas I became a 34KK. I stopped breathing for 3 minutes after walking too much one day. I got a breast reduction in 2015. I lost seven inches. My breathing improved somewhat but not completely as they were still too large. I went back to a 34H but I've already gained 3 of them back so now I'm back to a 34J in UK sizing and a 34M in US sizing. My left side is a full cup size larger than the right. Makes buying molded bras a pain. If I fit to the smaller side the cup will push away from the larger side. If I fit to the larger size it will cave in on the smaller size. Thomas would eat fine on my smaller side but suffocate on my larger side. I'll likely become a 34JJ again around my next birthday. Usually happens when I turn an odd age. I turned 42 this year. I hope they don't but apparently, I have strange genetics. My mother and sister are also large busted but they don't have the same issues. Their cup size went down when their breastmilk dried up. Mine didn't. Also, they don't gain as I do. Mom is only an F cup. I'm seven cup sizes above that. Sis is always smaller than I am. She needs under a 28 band but that size doesn't exist. Both of them are shorter as well. Mom is 4'7. Sis is 5'2. I'm 5'4.

I don't drink anymore but when I did I loved Capt Morgans. I would think if it called for rum it would mean plain rum which is clear but nothing can wrong with using the spiced rum especially with all the eggnog, which I also no longer drink. Looks like a great cake though.

A cool thing (just one of many😋) is that it actually uses very litntle rum, so if a person doesnt drink they wouldn't necessarily HAVE to buy a bottle of rum that would add to the cost and sit around unused until the next cake🤔 Just add a few spices and more flavoring?

I make rum cakes with a buttery rum glaze. I only use regular Bacardi rum. I also make chocolate amish bread with Jack Daniels whiskey, walnuts and chocolate chips. I do not drink. This looks so good. ❤Aww sweet lady… that’s what we love about you. You’re as real as real gets. You just be who you are. If anyone doesn’t like it they don’t have to watch you🤗❤❤❤

That is true about substituting butter for oil or shortening, I made brownies with butter instead of oil. They turned out hard and somewhat dry. Never again!!
