    My cake has 8-10 very thin layers. My recipe is my grandmother's. She always made her layers in an iron skillet.

    Hey, Tammy 💕. It does look delicious, and I am sure it is. Our apple stack cake is usually at least 10 very thin layers and would require way more dried apples, and they are cooked down more. You would not eat it for a few days after making. It was never dry. Very moist! I don’t make it anymore cause It’s just me, but others in the area do. They still dry their apples on a sheet too 🤣😂

    I've been running my dehydrator like crazy lately drying McIntosh apples (my favorite). I've had apple stack cake before, but have never made one. I'll definitely have to try this....my 80 year old Daddy will love it!
    One of my great-grandmothers dried her apples on screens. The other great-grandmother put the apple slices on cardboard (pasteboard, as older people called it) and put them into an old junk car. The sun through the windshield dried them very quickly. Some people may laugh at that today, but people did what they had to do back then....with whatever they had available!

    That looks so pretty and tasty. You know even though you like the dried apples better, you could still take a potato masher and make smaller pieces and that would make it a little runnier. Not trying to change your recipe sweetheart. Just a suggestion. I do make mine with apples and then puree them with my hand blender to the consistency I like. Then I smear it on my layers. Will try your recipe maybe this Thanksgiving. Thank you so much for posting. Stay safe, stay well!

    Ginger with cooked apples is always a great partnership. Ginger is my favourite spice to bake with and if I were making one of these fabulous cakes I would massively increase the qunatity of ginger and dispense with any other spices and the vanilla but that is just my taste.

    @judycolson6047 Před 2 lety

    My mother used to make a similar type of cake. I believe hers was called an apple sauce stack cake. Not sure what the differences are. That book that told you that you can substitute cake flour with white lily, I’m a bit confused. Cake flour does not have self rising in it as White Lily does. I guess you would need to adjust your recipe for that. I’m glad to know that though because there are recipes I want to make that call for cake flour and I didn’t know you could use the White Lily. Now I do. So I won’t need to go to the store to get the cake flour. The cake looks scrumptious!
    PS: I noticed you have listed in the recipe description below 1/8 cup of baking powder when using all purpose flour. Did you mean 1/8 of a cup?

I have never seen one like that it seems like it would be so much better than having that big huge thing on top which would be the mixture and the little arms going down to mix whatever created that thought really hard and long on what would be so much easier to use to do all that mixing and stuff does it do exactly like a mixer like a KitchenAid but better??
