Finally someone said it! I feel like a lot of the “I didn’t know I had curly hair” TikToks actually did know they had curly hair because their curls come out perfect on the first try. If you treat your hair as straight or wavy your entire life there would definitely be damage or the curls wouldn’t all be uniform/perfect the first time you style it curly.

It’s actually crazy. I’m only 14 but when I was younger I used to get made fun of for it ( I have 3a hair) and everyone used to tell me how messy and untamed it was and got made fun of it by my friends and used to really want straight hair. Now everyone loves it. Crazy. And now white people, especially want it. Like pleaseee.
@cinnamon sparkles people of color aren't the first to have curly hair, people of all races have curly hair and straight hair naturally but I do see where you're coming from with the injections and stuff but the hair part I could disagree on 💗

You can google hair type charts that show your hair type. That’s what I did and it helped.
Christina Coigney yea I actually did and I think I might have type 3a or 3b not quite sure tho
If your confused it may be because you have different hair types in your hair it's perfectly normal. Just find like a range or Ware your hair is if you have curls that look 4a and some that look 4c then you can say you have type 4 if you have mix of difrent types like if you have type 2c to 3b then you can say that.
My bangs and on top are 3b, the majority is 3c and I have a chunk at the back that is 2c.. my hair is so confused as to what it wants to do lol
Honestly knowing your hair type doesn’t help you with anything
Learn your porosity and then you’ll see you hair flourish

one of my favorite things about curly hair: if you get a haircut that’s not really even, or good, you can’t really tell if you have curly hair, but if you straighten it , you can.
That's not true... A stupid hairstylist once cut my hair TERRIBLY uneven and she tried to do layers but she failed... It was super frizzy, undefined. She ruined the beautiful ringlets I had! What you're saying Is not true.

I’ve got like kinda curly hair. More than Jayus. I just have no idea how to style it. My mom had the same hair but always brushed it out and straightened it so now it’s like practically just straight. I’m planning on getting like specific curl shampoo and conditioner after the stuff I have rn runs out.

I never understood people who have really curly hair who straightened it every day.. it's probably because I've always been too lazy to straighten my hair regularly and have just lived in braides since I was like 2 😂
I refuse to download tik tok. I’d spend all day just watching Curl videos. But then again, I watch curly videos on CZcams ........ yeah my logic checks out 😂
I'm wavy (barely curly) and I also dry brush my hair *before* the wash, just to get all the sheds out and to save my drain! Loads!!! Trust me it makes a difference. I weekly wash and so there is a lot of shed hair in there, even though I finger detangle throughout the week. And then I do it wet as well and have this drain thingy on the drain to catch hair. You wouldn't believe what comes out, especially when your hair is long. I haven't had a clogged drain since doing it this way!
4:16 for me I brush my hair before I hop in the shower and get it wet, because let's say it's matted in the back, and just needs to be brushed out; doing that is just simply detangling your hair so it won't get re-matted. And yes the conditioner, shampoo, etc will detangle your hair but my hair is very thick, so brushing before washing/ getting it wet is personally better. (this is my own opinion so yuh)🖐😭

I know people don't believe it but I didn't know I had curly hair like my whole childhood. I realized it in my 20s that my the reason that my hair was different was because I had curls. My whole family had straight hair so that was the norm sadly
The reason you didn’t see type 4 is because we are another breed in itself. Curly hair is all hair types with some sort of curl. Type 4 just has a way different kind then the others.

If the girl who cut her hair has really thin individual strands, she probably brushed it before the shower because if it gets wet and it's at all tangled, it'll knot up like crazy and be impossible to actually untangle.
That's what my hair does too, but it has a much tighter curl than her's

I brush my hair either while putting prepoo treatment on before the shower or in the shower. Usually both 😂

I brush my hair before washing it because If there are a lot of knots I feel its harder to wash and it causes more damage because the hair is more fragile while wet , I don’t know if it makes sense

I have a question ! Is wearing a wig as a white person is okay ? I've shaved my hairs (2C/3A, not sure at the moment because it's been 3 years since I've seen my natural, undamaged hairs) 6 month ago and they are growing but I look so dumb.

As far as I know, wigs exist in every culture, so it can't really be called cultural appropriation... the only issue is when people credit people like the kardashians for making wigs and coloured wigs a trend, failing to acknowledge that black people and black celebrities have been doing this forever, and actually get insulted for it 😕 so yeah, its not wearing it that's offensive, more like if you say wigs are popular because of kylie jenner 😐

I cut my hair like that girl but I take the section from the top of my head forward in a triangle. Basically her sectioning wasn't that great
Several years ago I had a combination of 2b and 2c hair (with some ringlets in some spots) I totally forgot my hair was like this, I treated it as straight (I thought it was just straight and poofy) my whole life by brushing it when it was dry, using really harsh shampoos, all that. I found an old picture of my curly/wavy hair and I was like....WHAT. So I started the curly girl method. It’s been a week and my wave/curl pattern is slowly starting to appear (I found literal RINGLETS) but my hair is so FRIZZY it’s like the Sahara desert up in there. So this is definitely gonna be a long process but I’ve already shown progress. If anyone has any tips, that would be greatly appreciated!
Routine (still a newbie):
Wash with:
SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo
SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner
Detangle with brush (with conditioner in hair)
Aussie instant freeze max hold gel
(Scrunch in)
Sway hair side to side to get hair to form clumps (I barely even know what clumps are haha) naturally.
Plop for 30 min, then let dry fully.
Scrunch the crunch out!
Basically my hair is really frizzy (even when it’s wet which I don’t think is normal!)
My hair likely in the transition period still, but I’d like to maybe have at least one good hair day 😂
Also, what should I use to plop my hair with? Some places I hear cotton is good and in some places I hear to use synthetic fibers like polyester.
The main goal is to STOP FRIZZ 😂😂
Get yourself a good leave-in conditioner and that should do it. You should also look up the loc curly hair method.

i have 2cish hair, and personally i don’t like plopping it because it creates frizz. in addition, my hair will get super frizzy and dry looking if i don’t use a leave in/curl cream, so keep that in mind.

I just don't understand how so many people "didn't know they had curly hair"...
If you don’t take care of it for years the curls lose their definition and just look frizzy. Especially if you have fine hair that’s easily weighed down. In middle school I had like fluffy, wavy looking hair, but when I started growing it out and moisturising more, it started getting ringlets. Now it's abound 3B after a wash and no products.

It’s important to detangle with conditioner so the knots slide out easier, but if you don’t have knots and tangles, it should be fine to brush dry?
I detangle on damp hair to save my drain. Also my hair personally breaks more when wet. But everyone is different
