After finishing my previous custom track I realised the only major aspect of track creation that I hadn't really dabbled in was underwater stuff, so making this track was partially an excuse to learn about that.
This is technically a Mario Kart Tour port, but I remodeled so many things including all of the cliffs that I think it still manages to feel like an original Mario Kart 8 track for the most part. That being said, there are some things that do fall a bit short. Due to the way particles work there was no way for the waterfall to have an appropriate splash effect. Sometimes CPUs also drive into a wall for a few seconds when they fail the glider ramp shortcut, no matter what I do with their paths. Obviously it's also pretty much impossible to replicate the original track's moving water level, especially with the way underwater areas work in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
It will probably be a while before I make another Mario Kart 8 Deluxe custom track since I'm expecting to be busy with other stuff for the next few months. In the meantime I'm just hoping Nintendo doesn't put their version of this track in wave 6 of the Booster Course Pass...

and buildings have 0 detail
I actually like how the character and kart models are affected by the shadows on the track and by the tunnel shortcut, too. It's a detail that I rarely see in other custom tracks for MK8D. I can only presume it's quite difficult to execute.

really REALLY good remake, the only problem i really have with it is that sunshine airport isn't in the background anywhere and that would've been such a great full circle moment for both of those tracks because you can see this track on the big glider section of sunshine airport

the one track that got its spot in the bcp stolen by kalimari desert. it's so beautiful!
Kalimari Desert had a variant with an alternate route in Tour, the only classic course to have this distinction. It's fairer to say Choco Mountain was the course which stole the spot of what could've been another N64 course (e.g. Koopa Troopa Beach).
Well the problem is that Koopa Troopa Beach never got into tour
Seeing this makes me wonder how different a track already in the BPC would look like if given a similar treatment to this, its really, REALLY good!

I've had a few comments about Sunshine Airport.
I did consider adding it, but decided it would clash too much with the track's nature-based tropical vibe, especially for the majority of people who might not even be aware of the original easter egg. I placed advertisements at the start of the track referencing Sunshine Airport as a compromise.

Its funny, because with the proper texture work, the Tour models are actually really good, but a lack of texture makes them look really bare bones
true, though for the record at least 50% of this track isn't the tour model, I redid all of the walls and a lot of other things
I love the creativity of this track. The background matches with the beach at Sunshine Airport and made the track very related to DS Cheep Cheep Beach. Great job!!!!

Absolutely stunning port. I got one question though, how do you make the water to not always move in one direction like if there is endless current? Every time i try to add water to a CT it always gives me this kind of glitch

Missed opportunity to put sunshine airport in the background
I considered adding it off in the distance, but I decided it would probably clash with the tropical vibe / be too distracting, especially for people who aren't familiar with the easter egg.
Sunshine airport features multiple koopa troopa formations in the background but this track only has the one, so who knows if it's specifically koopa troopa beach in that track's background.

it can be yeah, but doing so requires re-importing the model with different materials which I don't feel like doing
