    Hi Jo recommend setting up a tripod with a pop up hide with king fishers to reduce your movement and conceal you more. Or at least a tripod with 3D camo over you and the tripod but move like a Sloth if doing that method😂👍 keep persevering it will be worth it! 🙏👊Ant

    Try putting a perch in the river if you can Kingfishers love a new perch, enjoyable video

      Yes that will be on my to do list, reckon I'll go on the other side of the river where it's shallower and attempt it there ... 😂 🤞

    I didn't own a camera as a child, but we had a small river 5:18 that ran through our farmland. I used to sit in one certain place, partly hidden and view many kingfishers, even otters - The feeling of being 'at one with nature' was something that will be fixed in your memory for a lifetime, so good luck this project.

      @@JoHeard Yes, it's the best part of the day! In my teens I had a girlfriend who kept wearing camouflage gear, just for fashion - In the end, I had to tell her 'I just can't see you any more!' (Just a small joke for your day)

    Kingfishers... I always sense that they smirk when they do their fly-bys as a shimmering blue dart. You should definitely be in a good spot to catch them, and the fallen tree in the creek kind of screams: Perch here!

      They are aren't they! Over the 2 days I went I think I saw kingfishers whizz past 5 times! Definitely going to head back again soon and try again 👍

    Hi, Jo. I have just finished watching your last six videos and you are doing a great job with them!. I also think you are off to a great start with your wildlife photography. You have all the ingredients to find and get some great shots. As you have mentioned a couple of times, what you would really benefit from is that great Sony 200-600. Mine lived on my A7R3 for 5 years and is now joined to the A1 that I purchased used last November. I find that even with that lens I still use the crop mode very often and then, of course, still have to crop again in post. Keep up the good work. With your attitude and dedication, you will succeed. Cheers, Phil from Ottawa, Canada.

    Hi Jo, great video again! I'm told ( I'm not an expert! ) that if you place a new / good stick or perch in the river if you are able to, a kingfisher can't resist to sit and check out whether it is a good potential fishing spot. In my experience they're not an overly skittish bird, having photographed them myself on a local river in the past, so it might offer an opportunity. I haven't tried this tactic as of yet but plan to one day!

    • @JoHeard
      @JoHeard  Před měsícem

      Yes a few folks have mentioned that in the comments and I will be giving it a go, not sure how easy it will be to shove a stick in a river and have it stay there, but I am sure I will have a laugh trying to do it ... 😂

  • @ianwilsonwildlifephotography

    Great video again Jo, do like that you share your sessions that maybe don’t go to plan as well as the successful ones. Sure your perseverance will pay off eventually. Great that you can hook up with a local photographer who sure will be a great help. 👍😃

    I've had a similar kingfisher chase along my local river in SW France. I find these birds highly sensitive - off like a shot at the least disturbance. It has been impossible to identify reliable perches and the birds never took to several I set up. Happily there are wagtails everywhere to save the day :)

    • @JoHeard

      @@JoHeard Good idea - I use a a large 'hood' made from green netting, as used in agriculture - partial shade 50%; it's roughly 90cm square. I can see whats going on through the net while awaiting a subject; the lens sticks through a hole. I stitched it myself starting with a rectangle. It works ! I had a hoopoe come to within 2m of my feet recently :)
