    I've spent a wonderful, wonderful Sunday evening watching your video over a glass of red. The shots of the wee shorebirds were great, especially in their breeding plummage. I use a similar shooting method I call wet arse photography. Often the birds seem to come towards you out of curiosity. Keep it up Dan!

    You said it Dan, it's all about being in the moment with your subject also a great plus if you find yourself in such a great location. Personally found this a more interesting video than the many shot from Bempton. Very impressed with how your waders photos turned out. Look forward to more of your work. 👍

    Those ruddy turnstone though - stunning lil birds! Amazing video Dan!. I know it's a bit of a trek for you, but if you're ever Hampshire/Wiltshire way, take a look at The Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover. They have a great array of different birds of prey that I think you'd enjoy photographing during the flying displays/in the aviaries - I may even see you there if you come on a Sunday....!

    Hi Dan loved the video we where at RSPB St Aidans when you where at Filey. Didn't see much though, must have picked the wrong day. Regarding your ground pod I made two, one for my mate out of two frying pans bought for a fiver each at Lidl, just take the handle off, drill a hole in the center add a bolt and away you go. You will not find one that cheap and it does everything yours does. It's small and light.

    You can of course use the access road from the cliff top car park down to the sailing club to reach the sands then walk across the flat sand, when the tide is not high of course but easier than that climb.

    Great stuff as always Dan, some lovely images & footage. As some others have said, ground pods aren’t a new conceit though they might be in terms of actually being manufactured for the purpose rather than a being an upcycled & modified frying pan.
    I don’t think my fitness levels at present would get me back up that incline at the present time; like you said it’s not for the feint hearted.
    Well done on the sightings, footage & images mate.
    Keep on keeping on mate!

    Nick

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  Před měsícem +1

    Another lovely video Dan 🙂 I have visited RSPB Bempton Cliffs many times over the years but I have never been to Filey Brigg. It is now on the “to visit” list thanks to your video .... although it seems like I may have to improve my fitness levels first 😀
    When did you visit Filey Brigg? The reason I ask is that down here in Essex, we only know Purple Sandpiper as a scarce winter visitor.
    I agree with you …. I love Fulmars, especially when they glide along the edge of a cliff or alongside a ferry and are clearly having a close look at you looking at them 🙂
    I was at BirdFair over the weekend and several people mentioned that you were around. Unfortunately, I couldn’t spot you to say “hello” and have a chat. Oh well, there’s always next year unless I have a chance meeting with you (and Pops) somewhere in the UK before then 🙂

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  Před měsícem

      I'm sorry that we missed you at the Global Fair, we will definitely be there next year and will keep a lookout for you.
      I first visited Filey Brigg about 2 years ago and every time I have been on the Brigg I have managed to spot Purple Sandpiper so I'm fairly certain that they are not just migrants as this was shot in the summer months and I have seen them in late Autumn.
      I'm glad that you share the love of Fulmar's, I think they are just incredible and very photogenic.

    Good spot Dan, think it will always be a quiet place because of the walk in ! A mate has a caravan nearby, I'll have a look next time. Last time went to Bempton, S E Owl flew in front of the car when leaving.
    Built a groundpod from an old frying pan, used a monopod head mount to attach to gimbal.
    Think John's design might benefit from having a large s/s washer between the pod and gimbal for extra strength & stability. ( instead of base of gimbal onto plastic ). All best.

    Goundpod wow for how much as they say in Yorkshire. Go to Asda, Morrisons or any other supermarket and buy a frying pan the size you want cut the handle off and drill a hole in the center to take a 3/8" BSW bolt. Fit your Gimbal or tripod head on and away you go for about £10 I think Paul Miguel call it a frypod a very apt name

      I have seen the video where Paul makes one of these and uses it in the field. I am certain that it is an absolutely effective piece of kit, I do however really like the ground pod, its design is light yet strong and very effective for sliding on the ground.
      Each to their own I guess

    Looks like a real good find, however, at 65 its perhaps not for me. But, am going to Skipsea in September so will have a look at it and make a decision then.

      There are apparently easy routes to the headland at low tide from the beach. Would certainly be worth checking out mate 👍🏻

      @@danwillis_photography yeah, I looked at the area with google earth. From the beach looks easier, just need to be sure of tides height and time. I shall have a gander on my jollys.

    Looks great but steep narrow paths are not for me unfortunately! Might go there and stay along the top though. Thanks for sharing the location and of course your lovely photographs and film. Very relaxing and well presented.

    Hello Dan, Yes I started watching this video and said to my self what a super place to go under 2 hours away great. Then you said very steep and slippy, I am not to good of my feet now, and after they(Doctors) removed one of my lungs not to good at steep slopes. Any good place on top? I may well just pop over and have a look. Like the look of the plate/pod thing? Just spent the weekend at Rutland water at this year Bird fast, Lot of people to talk to and see. Nikon were there in force plus others and at £16 a day go place to go.

      I was actually at The Global Bird Fair all weekend so it's a shame that we missed each other. It was a fantastic show and I will certainly be returning there next year.

    What a wonderful trip, Dan! Great shots and video. Thanks for letting me tag along. Is there a way to check to see if you have a spot on the sensor while in the field? I really don't know and I don't like getting home to find that on my images or video.

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks very much Jon, I wish I had known about the spot on the sensor before shooting this and several other videos as they all have been affected by it. One of the best methods that I find for looking for dust spots is to photograph a white wall and then zoom in on the image on the back of your camera and look for spots. Not the most technical and I'm sure there are more effective ways.
