  • There is a new type of store growing in popularity that sells brand-name goods at a fraction of the retail price. It’s called re-commerce and gives a second chance for returned items, products in damaged boxes or things that were just overstocked. NBC’s Vicky Nguyen reports for TODAY.

    STOP BUYING STUFF YOU DONT NEED. This is all a marketing ploy. If you didn't need the $500 item before, you still dont need it when its $149.99. You're meant to believe that you're getting a bargain when you're only making yourself poorer.

    Just goes to show how much stuff is overpriced in stores.

    • @bebdaumon3948
      @bebdaumon3948 Před 17 dny

      The stuff isn't overpriced. These items are not in prime condition. That means when shipped to stores if there's something wrong with it that they know they cannot sell as brand new the used to send it back to the manufactory or throw it. Then people that worked these stores were like what if I open a business and get these items dirt cheap and take the issue off the companies hands. This is where the retail companies made deals with people like this guy. Either the retail store takes the loss on the item or the manufactory depending on how they have the contracts written. They still get something from it. However, these items won't have warranty on them. They sell them as is and supposed to sell them as refurbished or 3rd party meaning these are either damaged item that got fixed or were returns because they had some kind of issues. I have a computer monitor that is samnsung 4k at the time a brand new item would be 800 each. I got 2 of them for $400. A guy worked at a bestbuy had returns and he bought it dirt cheap off of them as refurb. He told it to tal to me $400. The only issue is that one of them had a dead pixel and the both were kinda dirty that has finger prints. Both works great. However, it was by as it is sale. So, you can buy stuff that works for 1 or two days and dies on you and you cannot get your money back. It's risky and you're pretty much buying junk at a high price.

      It's because you will have to pay taxes as a business and being honest wont' make much for you. These items are considered refurbished. On ebay you're supposed to label it as such but most label it as brand new. That is how they make a sale. I seen newegg do this saying save 20% off and when you look at it they list as new but when you buy it in the invoice they list it as refurbished.. RMA. Which is a scam and their software detects you buying the it em so when you go back to the listing it changes to listed as refurbished. Which is illegal. It violates marketing laws. It's considered as a bait and switch tactic. Yet, they still do it and no one does nothing about it.

    These re-stores are wonderful for the environment! And saves people money 💰 too. ALL this merchandise in people's homes and not the landfills is good ( for a while anyway because eventually it will be in a landfill). Supermarkets contribute to this problem, too. The overage in their inventory could be sold, or just plain given to free supermarket stores! Actual buildings, not just food banks. There is a California law that fines supermarkets for their contribution to the harmful methane in the atmosphere that their food products are causing in landfills. It's a thing. Look it up.

We would not have this if there was a consequence to buying, remember when you had to really think about a purchase because of the hassle of returning? Oh and how much of the items in those $50 boxes gets thrown out by the buyers because they were unwanted. I think it is safe to say that half the items purchased from these kinds of stores gets thrown out anyways.
