One time, I didn't bring anything. I went to a secondhand store and bought clothes. Washed them. Before I left, I donated them to another secondhand store. Got the tax receipt and wrote it off on my taxes.
Lol, I've thought about doing that. I'll give it a try one of these days
This seems super inconvenient
I’ve actually done this before, but just for toiletries. It’s actually not, and if you think about it, it’s actually oxymoronic to think shipping is the inconvenient option. When you’re travelling with lots of luggage, you have to worry about removing things from all of them for security, repacking them, carrying them all with you or picking them up at baggage claim, etc. It’s a whole new stressor on your travel experience. Instead, you can ship your stuff ahead of time and not worry about it at all during your travels. From the minute you get to the aeroport to the moment you arrive at the destination, you have no bags to worry about, no small places to try and fit your bags, no security to clear, and no removing your conditioner because it was an ounce too large. Ship your stuff to your hotel or place you’re staying and you don’t even have to worry about driving it there yourself. Everything will arrive right at the place for you, without having to do anything except drop it off.
Depends how soon you need your stuff. I just did this last year, and it worked great. I fit the few things I needed sooner into my backpack, and I was good
I have shipped my dirty clothes home for years. No need to haul that around
Now that’s a good tip.
Why paying for fees or shipping when you can have the airline CC and check your bag for free?
Exactly. If you travel even a couple times a year, that airline CC may be a worthwhile investment. Sure, you pay the CC's annual fee, but if that saves you from shipping four boxes, you've made that back.
The airline he used charges 35 to do so.
That is the whole point of the news story.
@@NextNate03 We understand that. The point that we're making in response to the news story is that there are ways for travelers to avoid that fee, one those ways being getting the airline's credit card. While those credit cards have annual fees, one would think that a journalist likely travels enough to justify the credit card fee because of all the perks that go along with it.
@@NextNate03 they're saying if you sign-up for a credit card with the airline you get a free checked bag. Depending on the card sometimes your travel companions get free checked bags as well. Another perk may be you get 3 free bags and you only have to pay for the 4th if for example you have a family of 4.
I became Platinum by paying my rent and utilities throughout the year .
If control is an issue, why are you less concerned when the airline handles it? They lose tons of luggage every day. You might want to toss a GPS tracker in anything traveling with or without you.
Exactly
Less than 1% of luggage is lost
All shipping carriers have a tracking number, he could have tracked it to see if it made it and when it will arrive. He could have called the hotel and confirmed if it arrived if he was really hesitant. All of this could have been done before flying out and it would have been less stressful day.
4:55-5:00: Whose attention did you ship the box to at the hotel? Is this part of their service to guests?
How did they know to accept the box, and where was it stored? What's the plan if you are unable to keep the reservation?
Southwest is the way to go... 2 free checked bags
Didn't say how or what category of shipping that you used. Standard ground, priority, overnight? Also, do you reuse the box and if so that means you need to get to a shipping location before you leave, while on vacation. Plus the rates that you quoted for the airlines, were they the ones that you pay at the airport or what you pay BEFORE & while online, which are often cheaper? So much left out of this report!
Right, very incomplete report.
I agree
I don't know if he knows or not. But if he was staying on property at Disney World, all packages mailed to the hotel can be delivered to your room before you get there. As a Disney World Pass holder, I've used that service from time to time over the years and it saves you some stress. Either way, I'm never having my luggage delivered, carry on is best for me. LOL
I was bringing a sleeping bag on my trip.Because I was becoming a truck driver. And Southwest said it would be cheaper for me to throw away my sleeping bag. Than to put it on the plane.. Then when I get to work where I'm going. I can go purchase another one.. customer service at its finest
Some hotels charge you a fee to storage and receive a package shipped to a hotel guest. This happened to me in Las Vegas.
If you are going to a casual or active vacation...just buy your clothes there. I take shoes and what I am wearing, and then just grab a couple cheap T-shirts and shorts while there for beach or hiking holidays.
BUY or rent? I wouldn't want to buy MORE clothes when I already have some paid for.
@@Chicago48 the point is that the cost/hassle of taking them there is more than the cost of buying stuff in many locations
If I purchase a lot of stuff out of town, I ship it back via fedex ground. Cheaper than buying a new suitcase and paying for it.
FedEx had an ad for shipping golf clubs.
Anyone that checks a bag has too many clothes.
Yes, I do it all the time…
I don’t like to drag my luggage around the airport, just a backpack. Usually shipped my luggage to hotels
Hustle free
4:55-5:00: Whose attention did you ship the box to at the hotel? Is this part of their service to guests?

Yes?
How did he saved money by shipping it instead of checking it?
He did pointed out it cost almost double to ship it instead of checking it.
He also pointed out thaton shorter flights, he would had save money shipping instead of checking.
My brother has been shipping his luggage for years! Always waiting for him.
It seems like a hassle
It is..... I did that once for a conference. I shipped all my printed materials ahead. It took the hotel two days to find the package, even though they signed for it.
international? US to south america???
If the cost is not substantially more, you will will also want to check the Airlines baggage rating. If the airline has a bad rating for getting bags to the destination, shipping might be a no brainer. The Points Guy website has a chart ad so does the DOT.
As a journalist who often travels to foreign countries just to report on news matter for a couple of hours and fly out afterwards, I need to travel light. I often buy clothing items, such as dress shirts, dress pants, belts, etc. from Primark and Zara, and return those items to the store 6 to 48 hours later, sometimes returning those same items in another country. When I return them, I have my original receipt and the price tags are still attached to those clothing items.
Some things not considered is travel time. A lot of people don’t have the extra 3-5 days for transit. Also, the ending destination has to be considered. Depending on where you’re sending it could get lost once it’s delivered. Finally what happens if your package arrives too early or too late?
So, Economy pays for my baggage because I pay lunch everyday with my airline credit card?
USPS can depend a lot on the quality of the sending and receiving branch, but it's been reliable for when I've used it
No if you get free checked bag
Sure but thats one bag and usually a weight limit. Doesn't work for long trips.
@@Unknown_Ooh of course their a wight limit evey airlines has it it’s 50 lbs over weight bags coast an up charge for a reason
But when you fly international, you get two free check bags, almost airlines and if you’re flying first, if you’re little overweight, they’re not gonna make a big deal out of it do you really need four bags for one person? If so, then you should be shipping your stuff.
I shipped my items cause it was going to be $65 dollars (2 different airlines) the shipping costs about the same as it would for the luggage costs.
Fly Southwest, problem solved.
I’d rather trust FedEx over a UPS if it’s just a two dollars difference
Why if I have to fly, I fly SWA.
Don't pay retail rates use pirateship you get commercial rates for US Post Office and UPS.
NO, it WOULDN’T!!!!
Why we need high speed train network to compete against airlines.
Do you really save money? What do you do with your empty suitcase?
I wish we had luggage shipping around the country like Japan does where it's a normal thing to do for foreign and domestic travelers.
Is anyone gonna mention how filthy this reporters weight scale and bathroom floor is?
Been doing this sine the late 80's.
I prefer to pay my 35 dollars instead of doing that.
I would think to Call hitel/destination to let them know!
And request the put it in my room...🤔😎
It would definitely get there not lost fully track able 🤷♂️
4:04 Elderly folks don’t want to deal with luggage but they want to deal with postal service going to pick up their stuff and going back to hotel and anyway carrying all that stuff around 😂😂😂 this report is sooo stupid!😂
You people need to leave how to minimize and just pack carry on only...it is doable!
Laughing in active duty military
If you to cheap to pay for your bags then you shouldn’t be flying 😂
How about just complying BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR THE AIRPORT?!?!?
Need more context.
Your comment doesn't make sense if you go by whole point of the news story.
Airlines don’t really restrict the weight of carry on bags they just say you have to be able to lift it into an over head bin. Just stuff it all into a carry on bag
United charging $150 for 1 bag on international flight!
Not what I’m seeing.
No,
Would the 🧳 fees would be considered to be "Junk Fees"?
If yes, good news, it will soon no longer allowed because of the "Junk Fee Prevention Act".
When my niece visits me she mails her stuff like a week in advance in a box and jumps on the plane with just a backpack. Then when she’s leaving we stop by the post office on our way to the airport to have it shipped back to her home. It’s still a lot cheaper. I would be on edge shipping it to a hotel or unfamiliar places. Although, the airline has lost my luggage a couple of times. Luckily it’s been on my way home and not to my trip.
