    Sounds great! I will throw it on the table and see what the team thinks. I'm pretty sure they will like it!

    I recently bought a Rob Roy MacGregor tartan kilt online for dirt cheap from a woman down in Florida. She didn't know too much about it and seemed to just want to get rid of it. I knew when it arrived from feeling the material that it is definitely wool. The maker is a mystery, but it was made in Scotland and judging from the leather straps and buckles, it's an older kilt. But thanks to this video, I now know from the pleat depth that it is a 8 yard wool kilt. Nice video!!

    We defiantly feel that an 8 Yard kilt is an all around great choice. It is durable and really showcases how precisely crafted a kilt is. It's a win win. If you ever wanna buy one keep in mind we cover all customs and duty charges!

    I am no Highland Dancing expert but I would definitely say they wear 8 yards. 5 yard was made for a more affordable option and sometimes referred to as a "casual kilt". Check out this video /watch?v=cbaLS7N3-ew As the girls stand there you can see all the lines from their 8 yard kilts. Good luck with making your kilt!

    And what about dancing kilts? Are these 5 or 8 yards? I believe those 3 additional yards make a lot of difference while you jump all over on one leg, on the other hand the pleads must look better on an 8 yard kilt... I'm about to sew my own dancing kilt and I wonder what to start with.

      Women didn’t wear kilts traditionally. Your father sounds odd.

    If you going to use a kilt everyday like me, I suggest 8 yards, the main reason... wind 😄

    • @xabanu2012
      @xabanu2012 Před 7 lety +1

      4estrose The 8 yards kilt is extremely comfortable but as any kilt you have to be careful with the wind until 19 miles no problem, more than that ... you Marilyn Monroe 💃🏻 I leave in Scotland 🌪💨🌬

    • @xabanu2012
      @xabanu2012 Před 7 lety +1

      4estrose the difference between 5 and 8 yards 5 yards is lighter in weight and the pleats shorter in length, 8 yards is heavier and pleats longer in length so in a 8 yard kilt you only have to iron twice a year and is more resistant to wind, rain and damage

    • @xabanu2012
      @xabanu2012 Před 7 lety

      4estrose no worries 😉 8 yards is how much tartan they use to do the kilt so 8 yards is 8 yards

    Seriously, but what's the difference? Besides length.
    There is a difference besides that. How about you tell us why someone would choose a 8yd over a 5yd or why someone would choose a 15yd plaid or great kilt vs a kilt.
    I have family from there, and it cracks me up to hear you guys give no info on what you're talking about. The major difference between a 5yd kilt and an 8 or 15 is, tadaaaa, weather.

      @KiltRentalUSA  Před 5 lety +3

      Robert Bradford , my family is also from “there”, and have been in the business of selling kilts for over 50 years. There are three obvious reasons for choosing one over the other, and they would be price, weight of the kilt and weather. For some people, price is an issue, while others will address comfort. A 5 yard kilt is lighter and doesn’t weigh you down during all day wear, and is cooler for warm climate wear, while an 8 yard kilt is definitely heavier and warmer. Some people like the look and the “swing” of the pleats in an 8 yard kilt, so choose accordingly. By the way, there is no such thing as a 15 yard kilt, maybe that was a typo. The great Kilt, belted plaid or Feileadh Mòr as it is known in Gaelic, is just a long piece of cloth that is hand pleated and wrapped around the user. It is 4 to 8 yards in length depending on the size of the wearer. It wasn’t mentioned in the video because it is an entirely different category of kilt that is rarely worn today outwith Ren faires or re-enactment groups.

      @@KiltRentalUSA I did say 15 yd was not meant
      My question was simple enough I did watch the video and not once did you bring up weather as a reason to wear a 8 vs a 5, you said cost and weight and more pleats, maybe weight was an insinuation that it be worn in colder weather but I did not catch it. And didnt one size fit all at one time just by adjusting the size of the pleat, before they were mass produced

      Robert Bradford no apologies needed. It has been confusing on whether we rent and sell also, so we moved our purchase site to claymoreimports.com. By the way, that is my son in the video, we are a family company in our third generation of Scottish Imports.

      @@KiltRentalUSA I was talking before not really about the kilt itself but the great kilts of like way before, I've heard them called a few different things, but the 5yd would be 15ft and 8 being 24, I got started on it and switched topics in the middle getting it all mixed which is why it came out as 15yd, I was reading that a company that makes tartans does have a 10yd, huge don't know if it would be cut down to make 2 5yd or if it's kept at 10
      My great grand mother was from Scotland not sure where exactly, and my great grand father was Irish, which as families tell stories is why they came to America because this was not an ok thing then, her family was against it and his is, well, their Irish, so it goes without saying, I myself would like to go and see where they were from, but it's been well over a hundred years since they were there, and I myself never had the privilege of meeting them.
      But my mother told stories true as they were
