underrated channel this was such a good video! really appreciate the excellent sound tests and easy to follow instructions
I just finished modding mine and its sooooooo good, very simple explanation!
Great to hear!
Killer video. As far as tutorials go this is one of the best I've seen in the space.
That motivates me more to make tutorials. Thanks for the kind words!
Т
PE foam MOD alone makes those marbly sounds , ( like the spray can shaking motion makes ) that is the sound I love.
that's probably the best example of how "marbly" sounds. Im actually surprised no one has made that analogy yet.
I'll never unhear it now lmao but this is exactly what I want too. Gonna try to get a super thock spray can shaking sound haha
spray can shaking, posca markers or those sharpie markers... mMmM
Love how it sounds seller and thockier after the mod. Also appreciate the lengthy typing recordings with words screen. Thank you for showing us. ❤
I love the music! haha
Great video. Very clear and easy to watch. I'm going to try the PE foam!
Subscribed. This channel's so underrated, geez.
thank you so much for the tutorial, I just finished doing this in my gk61 with gateron yelows as my first bigger keyboard mod and a couple things went wrong but its fine. I did a before and after sound test and it's so much better now
Im glad the mods worked! Link me the video

Diggin' the upbeat music in the background. A nice change to the usual soft jazz I hear (not hate on those videos btw, just a comment).
really well put together, respect.
Thank you! I did this on a RK61 and it sounds much better.

@@killakeyboards1945 what is the filmof the kbd67 lite
Just modded my keyboard like this yesterday and you're right. Although I used pva foam and it looks so good when I cut it really well, it looked like it was factory made. I also applied 2 layers of tape as people said 1 was ok but not quite enough.
Thank you so much! I did this on a GK61 and it sounds so much better.
the quality is super good! keep up the work
good quality will be watching more of this channel
I just finished building my first keyboard. Thank you so much for the tutorial it made my custom sound SO much better!
I'm not sure if you did the tape mod from other videos but layering it three time gives the best results
@@Willy_Gee I did
@@itsamedaniil5976this is the first tutorial I saw without lubing the switches. Did you lube your keyboard, plus how is it holding up?
I have access to the foam and tape, is it worth it modding the keyboard with only those two
@@willy7968 it will make your keyboard sound so much better you should definitely do it . but try doing 2 or 3 layers of tape, also keep in mind that the foam will reduce brightness of the rgb.
@@fatiqraza514 oh thank you so much
I really appreciate, I don’t think I want to lose the brightness of the keyboard now, will definitely do it in the future
I knew it! I didn't do the pe foam mod correctly my stabs still sound bad thanks alot for this tutorial
Great video. I'll try it on my keychron next weekend, wish me luck. First MK and first modding experience, hope i get it done. Thank you for the tutorial, thumbs up!
Let me know how much difference it made! goodluck
Should check out silicone pour too. I ordered a Q1 also and am planning both mods but also a thin layer of silicone to reduce the hollow aluminum sound.
@@SmartFool24 Yeah I passed up on Q1 because of the hollowness
@@killakeyboards1945 I think it can be modded out somehow at least I’ll have fun trying to anyways lol

just tried this on my gk 64 with ktt roses. went from delicately quiet to fairly loud in the nicest way possible
thats what I like to hear

@@killakeyboards1945hey, can you please share the link for that desk mat?
with the music and the editing, i felt like i was watching one of those toys videos my little cousins watch, and i realized this is the equivalent of those silly toy videos and kids videos
so apparently i have a razer Blackwidow 2019 and it does not sounds bad at stock it actually performed really well yet i soon get bored of the clacc sound afterward and so i search up how to make a clicky keyboard thocc and yet i do what you did in the vid, its just that i actually accidentally apply 2 layers of foam making 1cm thicc and yet i have to use a plier just to have the shroud back onto the keybaord and now it just sound like a diy keyboard! I just wanna say that this video changed the way i live with my keyboard! great content bro
Im glad to hear that, thanks for watching!
I love your accent, great video too! Saving this for when I open up my keyboard for new switches and keycaps.
Man, I did this to my Keychron K2 and it made a huge difference.
Did you ever have any problems with static?
Nice tutorial bro!
Thank you!
Neat video. Good mods. Sounds beautiful by the end of it. 👍
thanks mate!

great video!
For having no mods on it, that's the best fucking keyboard I've ever heard.
The No Mod sound pretty nice btw.
Woww. This sound relieves my pain when my biscuit falls into the tea😌😌
I used a thin and sort of elastic anti-static bag from a motherboard box and it sounded amazing lmao
Thank you, very helpful! 👍What mod mat are you using on your desktop?
Love the bgm music
how did you make that hologram type thing when you did the typing test?
i only did the tape mod and my keyboard sounds way better and it feels way sturdier as well thank you so much
Did you screw in the standoffs for the plate? After putting PE Foam on, it seems too difficult to screw in.
underrated
man the difference is unnoticeable, your keyboard sounds like thunder
this helped alot
You can trace the PE foam using the switch plate.
Hellooo!! What a great video! I have a question because I tried modding by applying a few layers of masking tape and now the windows key is not working anymore. The rest of the keys are still working though, do you have any idea how I can fix this? Thank youuu! :)
Bro I love your accent, it went from Asian ( I think don't flame me if I'm wrong) to Australian, and a little bit of American.
This is so funny, I was just thinking abt this
i just added the tape and used poly fill and it sound *AMAZING* (clacky too!)
i did tape mod on my keychron q1 yesterday, removed it today and it sounds much better. you only need PE foam!
Thanks for sharing!
This guy seems like somebody that would a thousands of subs.
Why this dude got 409 subs?!?!?! He should have more!
Hey what kind on key switches do you use? They sound so good and the mod you did sounds awesome!!
great vid! once you have added the tape what do you do? is it just poking holes for the switch holes?
Oh sheeet, thank yu man. I've moded my keyboard with pe foam but I didn't cut a piece below stab and it sound like wtf, I will try it now
Hey, gonna build my first custom with a KBD67. Did you keep the case foam after the mods? I've seen some removing the foam after the tempest mod. What do you think?
Taking out the case foam made mine a little hollow sounding but it depends on what you like. I enjoy a tiny bit of hollowness
This the first time I will try to mod a keyboard, wish me luck.
Love the vid, but I find with the tape mod it often works better and gives a deeper thock with more layers of tape I did it on my Rk61 and it sounds much better and I used 3 layers of tape thats all you really need but you could probably add more if wanted.
Yeah for sure! From my experience, it made every switch sound similar so for the 2 boards that I tape modded, 1 layer is enough to preserve some switch personality haha
dam it i added 2 layers of tape only
Tape mod is fucking trash. It doesn't "give a deeper thock" is just makes the keyboard sound waterlogged. It sounds like you chucked your keyboard in saltwater and then took it out and started typing. Godawful mod.
I think 2 or even one layers are enough, having more eliminates the sound u originally look for with tapes, which is the vibration of the bubbles of air between the pcb and the tape aswell as the tape itself, think of the tape as a really wide string or stretched cloth, when plucked it makes that poppy noise
Add more? XD hahahah
Love the video! Im just wondering im new fo the modding scene and i have a wired full size mechanical keyboard , would these mods couse any shorts or hazzards? My case sound really hollow :)
It could if you use conductive materials. Im sure there are methods of checking if it is on youtube :) Ps: I didn't check the PE foam I used and its worked on all 3 keyboards
"that sounds so good, how do yah dew" bro just got himself a sub l0l
From what i can tell this mod killed the highs and made the board sound creamier, def gon try it out on mine
I also like if you get bored of the PE foam sound, just take it out and enjoy your boards natural sound. In this case, I really like the KBD67lite with no mods as well
@@killakeyboards1945 i just did it to mine and it literally became loud and low pitched, i think imma use this for a while with this config, maybe change later. But im kinda scared the foam might break the plate screws since they're now always pressured
The foam goes over top of the stabilizer bar? Other videos I’ve seen they tuck the foam underneath of them.
Great tutorial. However, I don't know if this will work on optical boards. I just tried it on my Tofu 60 with optical tangerines. And now it won't turn on.
Thanks for sharing
The board may have been too high in the case which means the usb c port wasn’t functioning. Could also be hat you may have used a conducting tape.
Convenient how my keyboard came with pe foam
Just did the most painful tape and "foam" mod on my ducky one 2 mini, and it was more difficult than it should have been.
I did it on my Anne pro 2 and it's so botched lol I eyeballed the foam
@@leo._.vincent lmao mine wasnt even proper foam just some paper shit that i found and was still too thick so i had to only put like one small piece in a part of the case that dips slightly lower :D i also just lubed my stabs and doesnt make a big difference
Woah what's your desk mat? I love it !
So, i've got the Yunzii KC68 Pro keyboard (which is a rebrand of some other brand i don't really remember).
Anyways, it has a pretty thick foam thing pre-installed between the PCB and the plate... so i'm unsure if this mod is needed.
I really wanna get the sound you get when doing these mods but again, my keyboard already has some kind of foam pre-installed and i have no idea what that foam even is for.
for anyone who still wants to do this but cant find pe foam, tissues work great. Just make sure you get clean tissues with no moisture (i would wash hands, sanitise and dry) and then just lay the tissues in as flat as possible, as many layers as you would like just so you can fit the PCB back in, and it works just the same.
yes!
I wonder how this mod will end on a blue switch. my keyboard is old and they sound more like a brown than the blues they were brand new
I am thinking, oh men that sounds so good, it's the same sound. 🤣
oh man the sounds so goood. How do you do
Is there significant changes in the led light? Since the pe foam can cover the led light? Planning to mod my keyboard this way
With the KBD67 lite, it is slightly dimmer but still visible
I’m still getting into mech boards and sorry if this is a stupid question but what keyboard cable is that? I’ve seen other vids of the 67 lite and the cable is diff. Is that cable custom or sumn? Oh and dope video bro this helped heaps
Hey brother, the cable I have is a custom made from a DYI kit purchsed from custom KBD. I bought the white sleeving from Aliexpress to ge the white look. Hope that helps :)
if your using wirelesss keyboard i recomend opting for electrical tape instead of masking tape to reduce the risk of zapping your pcb
damnit, now i want a snagga sanga
so nice to have aussie doing contents from time to time
“you can get some at your local Bunnings”
gday fellow aussie
YEAHH NAHHH MATEEE :D
any reason why you used a red ballpen instead of black when tracing? just kidding mate! good stuff! I am trying this to my keyboard soon
Where did you get that dope desk mat from?
I don't understand, is this to make your kb sound poppier(louder) or quiter? I wanna make mind less clicky
I'd use a thicker piece of foam than that in the video, usually the foam that comes from packaging tomatoes, you can get some from your grocery store or restaurant when they're throwing it out; one layer for the face and 3 for the back (one will be taped down to the base of the case with double side tape); then I'll tape the same foam inside the space bar, shift, and enter keys; now the keyboard makes a nice quiet thocking noise .... but it's nothing compare to the Logitech k70 (the first batch that came out, not the later batches that came out years later) that was near silent, it only got squeeky after 13 years of use, and the plastic became to brittle to risk taking the keys off and lubing the sisscor switches. .
how are the 2 pins from the switches supposed to go in the keyboard if the foam is blocking it?
They should push through without damaging the pins. Just be careful if the pins are slightly on an angle, they get bent. The pe sheet from my Mr.Suit didn't have pin holes so I had to do the same. PE is pretty soft so you don't have to worry if it does bend you can straighten it back up :) hope that helps
Hey man im wondering how to do the PE foam mod with plate mounted stabs, could you show me
I feel the tape mod like chokes out the PE foam imo but idk maybe use like 2 layers of tape
btw you can use non-static pe foam so you dont run the risk of getting a shock. haven't tried it out myself yet. idk tho
Your mouse pad Is fantastic, where I cam find that?
Are you not using the foam for the pcb provided with the kbd67? Is the tape instead of that but better?
I did put the case foam back in
I Havent tried tape mod myself yet but for some reason I struggle to hear a difference in sound when watching videos (or should I say listening videos) about the mod.
when doing the tape mod on the kbd67 lite did you remove the bottom foam it came with?
I left it in
The keyboard do be looking stunnin might want to consider purchasing also whats the table pads name?
CYBRPNK Deskmats - Black
can u use masking tape/painters tape for wireless keyboards or should u use electric tape?
bunnings was mentioned
Can i have some advice from u ? I just bought a beautiful mod( pc75b plus) from akko, but my J button doesnt work, do you have any software or anytips for me that i can fix it ? I just opened it and that switch doesnt work, peace
get a new switch ig
Search up keyboard tester on google and test your J button. If that doesn't work try plug in a different switch. If a different switch doesnt work, try using a tweazer or paper clip and contact the holes where the switch pins go in. If that doesn' work, your hotswap socket might be defected. Just have a look around the socket and see if there is anything burnt or loose. Its a bit hard to trouble shoot over text but I hope this helps you
I modded mine, took hours and the result was great, but the foam might be too thick because I have to press extra hard on some switches to get to working again, and messed up the alignment a few stabs too when unscrewing, and when I’m done the rbg stopped working, gonna have to open it up again sometime to get it fixed
perhaps the issue for the RGB having stopped working is because the PE foam has anti-static properties. did you ever resolve this issue?
Same with the extrra-force on certain keys, did you fix it anyhow? it would be of help to know.
@@lylacfps it just fixed itself lo
@@user-if9fm8yy5t idk if thisd help but push your switches and plate together the pins might not be touching pcb, if that doesnt work switches are bent probably

Is tape mod safe? I just dive in this keyboard moding world, so do u recommend to do it ? I just add the pe foam to my keyboard and its already sound more marbly, im about to do the tape mod but its kinda risky right? What do u think ? Lov your vid btw ❤
if you are not careful, you may break the switch or the connection connector (for example)but otherwise you just need a keyboard with the ability to change switches, otherwise everything that the author of the video has done is safe to do
What about the sound when the key is release? my switch sounds perfect, but when i press down and release it sounds very loud. The bigger the keycap, the louder it sound
Great tutorial but i got one question, can u add PE foam, goka foam, tape mod, and o ring at the same time??
Each and every mod you do will affect the sound and feel of the keyboard. If there's enough space in the housing, you could theoretically do just about every mod known to mankind but there's a chance you won't like the results. I think most modders seem to recommend one foam type and tape. And, for thock seekers, some say that max thock can be found with tape only.
Will more.layers of masking tape make it more thocc?
How thick was the Eva foam which you used?
I found that the more layers of tape you use, it makes it sound muddy. My PE foam was about 1mm for the kbd67lite but the NK65 is close to 2mm
