Resale I’ve seen from $400-$500. They come in this nice aluminum carrying case. Alittle gimmicky tbh. They feel great to the touch, my concern is the sound. I got the chance to play with them a bit. And to me they sounded a bit pingy like the sound from the switch bounces off the metal cap sidewalls more. We had lubbed and filmed aqua kings 67g springs. No issues with the space bar. Looks good, feels premium, but don’t expect any additional thock.
Another plus is that they don't shine like gmk
I found them on novel keys for $200
I like how they sound some people like that clacky high pitch sound too they are a gimmick 100% but if you're rich they're pretty cool.
ceramic with legends would probably be the best sounding, per a couple vids i eyeballed and eared. but idk. i'd like a pbt vs. ceramic vs. aluminum vs. wood vs knee vs. glass vs. glarse vs. switch
lmfao "kneecaps"
the ceramic ones are alot cheaper too
there is also how they feel when typing not just the sound
The whole two piece design between the cap and crucifix is just a really bad. And qc seems bad they look soooooo cheap and bad.
@@philipp594 what ceramic ones? I’ve seen some videos and they look decent. I don’t looove the way the backlight bleeds so much, but for those who like that Pudding type look, I’d say they work fine
really curious to how these would sound with clicky switches... id imagine every key would sound like dropping a penny, and i think that'd sound cool (for the first few minutes before it got annoying)
I love your avatar. It's adorable!
They sound SO COOL they have a little metal ping to them as the rise and fall it’s super satisfying
@@EvocativeKitsune i think it's changed since this comment but ty!!!
@@Goigigandfriends they really do sound cool, but also loud!! I'd love to try one tho
Be careful with carbon filter. Even though activated carbon used in the filter has low conductivity it still got some so it can cause shorts if you don't put a layer of tape of some other non-conductive material (like paper) in between the PCB and the filter.
Again, the chances to short is very low but they are not 0.
bruh it was a joke
Chances of anything happening are always not zero
I bought these for my keyboard and I found that filling the spacebar with foam or noico sound deadening significantly reduced the pinging on my board. The function row tends to be the more apparent in terms of the metallic pinging sound but other than that, I actually really like the keycaps.
As someone who bought these (and love them), here's a couple "before-you-buy" tips for aluminum keycaps for everyone.
The overarching theme is MACHINING IS RARELY PERFECT. This manifests in 2 noticeable ways. First, the legends are not going to be perfect. Some keys, primarily those with thinner characters, might look bold, while some look thinned out. I haven't noticed any that are crooked though, thankfully.
Second, the underside of the keycaps that connect to the switch stems are not going to be sized properly for all keys. This will mean it sits either loosely or tightly on your switches. In my experience, I only had one key sit loosely, and it was on a stabilized key. The tight keys just required a little extra work to get them safely on the switch stem, and have no noticeable effects on wobble or things like that while typing.
Last point is there may be small blemishes on the keys. I had a SINGLE key with this issue, and yes it is noticeable, but easily ignored.
Anyone else find themselves suddenly binge watching this channel after you found it yesterday? Because I’m on that journey right now and have NO regrets. Also…hope silly man Alfred gets his rent paid in the end
I have these and the only warning I would offer is in addition to one mentioned below - the machining isn't perfect. However, this is clearly mentioned this on the product page so there's no way a buyer could ever complain they didn't know (RTFM and all that).
Anyway, the additional part is that the slightly imperfect machining means that yes they don't fit every stem perfectly but it also means you have to squeeze some of the keycap crosses to make the fit a bit tighter or, the opposite, use a tool to make them slightly wider. Across my entire set I've had to do that 8-9x now and while that would be annoying for some, I read the product page and was expecting it.
Another interesting point is that because they're metal, they seem to expand/contract and hot/cold conditions. I suspect this is the case because a keycap I've modified to fit still pops off when this room is really warm but stays firm when the room is cold. I can't see any other explanation than the metal itself expanding and contracting.
Oh yeah and the loose keycaps do "ping" a bit straight out of the box. That issue goes away when they're fitted properly, though.
Calling these keycaps (and others) "authorised clones" is doing the community a disservice by re-enforcing the snobbery and false sentiment that only GMK keycaps are official or legitimate.
For lack of better words they do exist (see: Taro) - maybe "official rerun in new materials" would be better idk - personally I love when I can support the original artist but also get the material I'm looking for.
at this point, anyone can do any color combination. lets just not have people copying the novelties
*cough higround ripoff of DSA Magic Girl cough*
@@Laughadaffadil True, there's only a limited number of colour combinations before every new set will appear to be a copy of a previous set with the only difference being the novelties. I think we might be reaching that point sooner than we think.
@@Alan-ww8vi "artists" will run out of ideas and just create more sets based off of anime girls 💀
@@chiizuu752the anime girl sets arr always cold tbf
I personally love metal keycaps. They work great in high humidity and warmth to cool you down
I *definitely* wanna see a video on different kinds of keycaps, particularly the differences in how they sound!
I've actually been using these on a Squid60 with Lavenders since May. Biggest issue was that some caps were loose, and of course good old masking tape comes to the rescue here.
I can’t imagine how much these are gonna resell for
They look beautiful and probably the price is justified by what it takes to manufacture them but I would never spend so much for a keycap set, even if they provided a unique typing experience.
I love the deep poppy sound profile of the keycaps, though they do sound like an anvil near the end.
I honestly personally liked how they sounded on the keyboard they gave it a unique sound.
That is just an opinion though.
I used to love the keyboards that came with Apple G5/G4 computers back in the day. The big clear one with the black key caps.
Thanks hipyo! You’re a life saver
IMO I love that deeper sound coming from the aluminum caps, but there is no way I could ever justify spending that much. Perhaps I'll sit around looking for a cheaper set of somewhat similar quality
There is no need to justify the perfect purchase 😊
I feel the same way about the sound, and I'm glad because I happened to spend even more on alumizu keycaps including some additional kits even though I shouldn't...
I’d really love to see a review on the Epomaker Flamingo switches. I can’t find a review on them but I love them. They came in my TH80 prebuilt.
Finally someone made a FULL review of these type of keycaps.
Seems like you bought the non-RGB version, there is also a version that supports RGB
it was the silver alphas that stopped me from getting this particular set but i love the sound of alu keycaps so i got the aluve version that released recently.
I'm not a keyboard enthusiast so I guess I don't "get it" but those aluminum keycaps look and sound beautiful to me. Maybe not worth the premium but damn they are sexy.
i personally kind of really like the spacebar too
The current popular trend for keyboard sounds is a soft yet deep sound, often described a a thock. The clicky clack and ping are still noises you can get out of a keyboard, it's just not as popular anymore and there's no problem with wanting one particular sound for your own personal keyboard.
Hey Hipyo, what’s your favorite and go-to switches for best sound?
I'm a little perplexed that you dampened, and then complained about the lack of difference in sound. Without dampening, and depending on your case, plate, and switch, you can achieve a thocky kind of sound, but it'll tend to have more of a ping depending on the materials.
I had a full TKL set of blank zinc caps. They went on my TKL that has an aluminum case and MX Greys (and I also tried them on my MX Green board), and I very much enjoyed the feeling and sound that they produced. I only used them for about a week or two and ultimately, I didn't want to keep them as a daily and end up ruining them, so I packed them up. I ended up selling them to someone else who had wanted them.
Sounds amazing!
Wtf these are the most beautiful keycaps I've ever seen.
I have 13 metal keys and they kick ass they also have RGB pass through the best part about that is since it’s metal and not plastic defused like others it shines the letters on the ceiling 😂 for anyone who is curious I just got them on eBay and Amazon the most expensive one was the space bar and yes it was 75 dollars the rest were reasonable honestly 15-30 bucks for the sets one for the arrow keys and then I got the big back for the wsad and everything around it, then of course the esc key the spacebar I have is protected quadruple the weight of a normal one and that does have a deeper noise
You should use the Tecsee Metal Switches for Full Metal Keyboard!
I really wanna see a switch and keycap video that you said you might make that would be so cool to see how they sound
Dont the keycaps around the ones you're pressing also affect the noise? the sound reverberates all around the key, so you'd want to at least put the same types of keycaps around the ones your're testing to more accurately test the sound
I have these keycaps and like them, but one thing hipyo didnt mention is that these keycaps are "light". I have a set of Zinc keycaps and they're more dense and weigh a bit more (heavier metal duh), and I also have a bronze spacebar which is literally 3.5x heavier than the aluvia's; these keycaps especially the spacebar makes it THUNK not thock. If these keycaps were made with a bit more mass or a different blend of aluminum itll probably sound more different, but remember not everyone is rocking high/heavy springweights (i use 180g) so cant have super heavy caps activating switches.
Lmao, from now on I will strive to get a keyboard that THUNKS 😂
What do you think about the Keychron K10? I'm planning to buy it soon and replace the keycaps. not sure gonna mod anything else cause I don't have the skills to do so.
the skits never feel out of place.. seriously 10/10
Yeah I'd love to se a video of keycaps and switches and keyboards combinations!
I got some really cheap on amazon I been using for over a year and they been great. idk.... just the WASD but I love them.
I'm pretty happy with my Redragon Horus. Low profile, short travel, double-shot key caps. I'm amused that it came with eight spare switches...so far, haven't needed to change any of them, but it's only been a few months. Feels much better than my Corsair K70 Lux on my desktop...and weighs so little compared to the Corsair, which is important, because I always put the keyboard on my lap. Well under $100, too. I think I'll replace the Corsair with another Redragon keyboard soon, if this one continues to behave this well...not to mention the mouse. My Corsair mouse is giving me trouble with the wheel, but the Redragon mouse has very good behavior so far.
Thank you for keeping me up at 4am
you could try painting your caps with conductive paint and then use a power supply to electroplate them further; maybe try different metals and see what works best?
Anyway great Video :)
i still dont understand how people dont see the value in this when they buy literal plastic.
still waiting for those low profile magnesium alloy keycaps
You should mod a keyboard using only the packaging it comes in. Sound dampening with packaging stuff like packing peanuts cardboard plastic or styrofoam! Would be interesting to see how you go about it, or how the packaging they decide to use determines the quality of the mod
The legend finish on my backspace and left shift are very rough....I'm considered taking some like 3000 grit sandpaper to them or something...maybe?
i never thought it was possible to make an 1000pound keyboard... now i'm a believer
"Was it necessary?": Every single custom keyboard.
I think if the letters where cut out they would be pretty cool. The LED lights would be able to show through the letters.
I believe that would lead to fingers being cut if you don't wear gloves unfortunately
key question: does it prevent keycap shine that even high priced GMK ABS keycaps are prone to?
Im a keyboard nerd myself, I just built my first custom keyboard yesterday (I know no one asked but its a gmmk compact and gat milky yellow pros) but I just would not spend over like 50$ on keycaps, my keyboard, mouse, and mouse pad combined doesnt even equal 400$.
I'm still Using the Gateron Pro Milky yellow and I love them
i would suggest looking into eletroplating plastic for the 'diy' caps, just spray with conductive spraypaint and electroplate away, will need sanding and polishing afterwards, but would work, ToyPolli uses it to place chrome back on plastic toys
Would look good ascetically, but you wouldn’t get the sound of the metal, so there’s that
I actually like the penny drop space!!! Although Many people would say I could be from a parallel unaverse!
i like them i got them on release and im a happy camper
it seems like everybody hates clicky switches. I think it is because MX based clicky switches are really bad... but once you try something different (alps or buckling springs) that are actually good and properly clicky, you fall in love with them.
Hipyo you should do a silly dance in the next video, I think everyone here would want to see that
“The only click I like is Switch and Click”

i think those keys look beautiful even with the lower light
Well I wished the soundtest would have been longer than 1 1/2 seconds...
Will these keycaps fade overtime? I would like to get my hands on one set but scare if the legend or color will fade fast
Yo the foil wrapped looked great on cam like space ship vibrations lol
I have a metal spacebar and filled the inside with some adhesive dampener foam to get rid of the metal ping sound.
If someone makes a set of e-coated metal keycaps I might be buying.
What would be the point of e-coating these? They aren't steel.
@@bananabread7641 It would look cool. That is the only reason.
What about temperature/heat on the aluminum keycaps? Plastic keys tend to get warmer as your hand heats up and get sweaty(or just me).
thats a good question i thought the same thing. should stay cooler over time
Man i can imagine the pain of waking up in the winter and trying to type only for the caps to freeze your fingertips
"Howdy hey, I'm Hipyo Tech and I have scoliosis" I was not expecting that...but same

You can't buy it even if you had the money anyways. The keeb isn't being sold right now, as it is sold out and resalers sell for like 300+ original mark up price (not worth it). Hope geonworks does another batch.
@@jametron6135 yeah i'm very annoying
@@shanesheppard9237 wasn’t talking to you but i guess you are
I actually like the sharpness a lot, it sounds better in my ears! Too bad the color way doesn't suit me at all.
I'd actually like more metallic/pearl colored pbt or abs keycaps
I have some really bad redd switches that a friend of mine lubed and they are getting pretty wierd, sometimes the d button for an example will register 2 times instead of one time. I use a Rk 84 and would really like to buy a new board that i don't need to mod. For the board I want to buy Everglide aqua kings and some keycaps. Got any tips on a new board and some keycaps that are decent for a budget price.
They look really fancy. : )
Cool. But my first thought is that it can be a Cold typing experience.. dependant on room temp. Ofc.
i love the alfred skits each video lmao
Question what swiches will you use and would you suggest Cherry mx silent black swiches;and lubeing them?
Silent switches are awful and cherry switches are awful, so double awful
Ok hater

I need brass keycaps
also, machined carbon steel
also, doubleshot: steel for the body, porcelain for the seethrough bits.
Thanks Hipyo, now I want an aluminum space bar.
Yooo!! 9:12 "That's what she said" KILLED ME!!! xD
The sound of that spacebar is a war crime.
The sound of them doesn't kill the idea as much as the price does LOL!
These look really nice, might have to orde.... omfg how much
Hmm, I think maybe the knee sounded best, where can I get those knee caps?
Are the latches on the case upside-down?
carbon is conductive... good thing you did the tape mod...
that space bar with that alu keycap sounded like someone tapping on my window at 7 am for some oreos
hey hipyo i like this style of video so here's a comment, i love u forever thanks
You should try silicone keycaps. Got some in today and I actually quite like them.
Dots are such an underrated candy
So random but so true
Fun fact: "Since its 1945 launch, the candy has become America's #1 selling gumdrop brand. According to advertisements, more than four billion dots are produced from the Tootsie Roll Industries Chicago plant each year."
i am curious if you (or anyone else who's tried them) found the metal pleasantly cooler to the touch, if that persisted while typing, etc.
Those caps are awesome not worth 400 bucks but definitely some of the best lookin caps
love the knee keycap tbh
I saw these on NK website the other day, and my only question is "why"
Who asked for these???? they cant possibly sound good, theyre metal, theyre gonna sound clunky, and metal rubbing against each other isnt a great sound
TBH, I think it was just someone's idea to cash in on the Olivia hype while taking advantage of how ridiculous resale values are for the GMK version.
Products like these generally aren't meant to be good or reasonable lmao...they're just for enthusiasts to have a little fun and try different experiments out. Plus they look hella cool
also theyre ugly lol
on r/customkeyboards people put them on their endgame tgr boards and such
To be fair, type writers were metal. It’s really just full circle at this point
Knee seems good. Where can I buy it?
this is an amazing video
I know I'm not the only one who wants Hipyo to try using DOTS as keycaps now.
my friend had metal key caps on cherry mx blues and i played overwatch on his setup and it made me want to cry
Teamwolf has a Stainless steel set with plastic inset to make the letters transparent. And it's less than half the price of these.
I wanna see Hipyo do an ergo keyboard like the Alice! or maybe even the ErgoDox! ;v; (I'm waiting on my transparent pink custom alice case from switch couture!)
