  • The FIXD wireless OBD2 scanner and free app for iPhone and Android translates your check engine light into plain English so you can rest easy. In this video, we explain what OBD2 code P0302 means and possible causes.
    P0302 means cylinder number 2 is experiencing misfires.
    A misfire occurs when an insufficient amount of fuel is burning in a cylinder. The efficient burning of fuel is essential to engine operation as the combustion of fuel is what provides the energy to power the engine. A misfire from one or more cylinders can be caused by many reasons from a faulty ignition system, fuel system, or internal engine failure.
    When P0302 occurs, it should be fixed immediately as long term driving with engine misfires could cause consequential damage to your engine. Many times, P0302 occurs when there are worn out spark plugs, spark plug wires, or a faulty ignition coil.

    If you guys need help with the leak, take some spray starting fluid. And spray a little bit around the engine until you hear it rev, the. Just find the source by spraying a bit more towards where it's reving. Then you'll find the problem. 2000 Silverado

    I get this code on my VW Scirocco 2.0 tsi. Changed the fuel injector, swapped over plug and coil from cylinder 2 to 4 and vice versa, and the same code still appears. Possibly a vaccum leak? Where would I check for leaks exactly on that engine? Around the intake manifold? Any ideas? Thanks.

    • @fixdapp
      @fixdapp  Před 4 lety +1

      Coilpack and plugs are the best/easiest place to start. Vac leak is very common on tsi engines especially from a failed PCV. Most of the time this can be heard as an external leak on the pcv. When a misfire is partial to one cylinder or another and the coil pack, spark plug and injector test ok, time to go a little deeper. Are there any other faults? I would look into the cylinder with the misfire by removing the plug and seeing if it looks wet in the combustion chamber, look at the plug for signs of failure from fuel and or oil.The injector may be new, however if it staying open to long or not long enough that can cause a misfire. I would also do a quick compression test on cylinder 2 and make sure you have good compression. normally around 160 to 180 psi.

Removed the cylinder 3 spark plug tube and there was moisture around the tube. Dried it off and replaced it and all seems fine now. • @RobPGamerVaper
    @RobPGamerVaper Před 4 lety +5

    Question if there is a Vacuum leak why would it only affect Cylinder 2 ? Wouldn’t it be a Random misfire ?
    Im thinking my problem is a bad Injector.
    Because my Plugs are Brand New and the Coil for Cylinder 2 is also new.
    My misfire is random but only in time it’s always #2 and I have periods when it’s fine and out of nowhere SEL comes on and there’s a slight change in idle and over a few days the light will go away and the idle gets better but not perfect.

    • @fixdapp
      @fixdapp  Před 4 lety +3

      The answer is it can be both. Cylinder 2 misfire could be caused by a vac leak depending on how the air is entering the engine. For example if your intake manifold gasket is leaking at cylinder 2 this would allow extra air into one cylinder and not all of them. Depending on the flow of the intake manifold the air can favor one cylinder over another. Now most times if the vac leak is from a failed pcv or a faulty evap valve you will get multiple cylinder misfires. If you have replaced the plugs and coil pack on cylinder 2 a good next step would be to have your fuel trims checked and this will tell you if the engine is running lean or rich. When the misfire is one cylinder in particular and you have verified the coil pack and spark plug are in good working condition, check the fuel injector, could be leaking or not spraying correctly. Another check would be a compression check to ensure the internal components of the engine are ok on that cylinder

    I have a 13 kia soul, 90K, car wouldn't start, dealer replaced spark plugs and fuel injectors and did the pressure test on all four cylinders came back good (170 to 180psi), after a hundred or so miles check engine light came on, I checked with ODB to find P0302 error, did the swap test still no luck. I am gonna call up the dealer again to see what's up.

      Have a shop do a leak-down test, not a compression test on that cylinder. A leak-down test checks for bad valves and bad piston rings and lets you identify exactly which valve or if the rings are bad. A compression test doesn’t really tell what’s wrong if it fails. Sometime you can pass the compression test just fine but still have a bad valve causing a misfire. A leak-down is less fallible/infallible.

    I had this problem happen to me today. Out of no where with no prior signs that something was up, my vehicle began to shake as I was driving. RPM was high, and the car started to become sluggish. When I pulled over to turn off the car and to turn it back on, the car died within seconds, I started it again, and the car died within a few seconds again, and this would keep repeating. I finally tried ruffing the engine immediately after turning the car on, and that would keep the car alive. As long as I kept my foot down on the gas pedal the car would not die. As soon as I took my foot off the gas pedal within seconds the car died. My check engine light is on too. I was finally able to get the car in gear before it died again, and I took my car to autozone to have my check engine light scanned. It showed engine code P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire. The guy at autozone told me to buy a new ignition coil and plugs. I bought 4 new plugs and ignition coils that cost me around $300. I had a relative put those parts in for me, and the 4 new plugs and ignition coils did not resolve the issue. It's still wanting to die after turning on the car, and I have to keep turning the car on and ruffing the engine until I can finally drive it. The car is sluggish after idling or after a complete stop, but starts to drive normally as I build up speed. I can get my vehicle up to 60-70 mph without any issues. The engine light is on, not blinking. But when I start to slow down to come to a stop, I feel the car vibrating, and jerking me a little at each voom voom voom and you can hear it go voom voom voom (I hope you all know what I mean), but improves during acceleration. At this point, I am thinking the problem is the fuel injector, it's not ignition coil or plugs, and it doesn't matter what ignition coil is in cylinder 2, it's always #2 that is misfiring. I had a friend tell me that it sounds to him that it's the timing belt. Anyways, I am taking my vehicle back to the dealership that I bought it from on Tuesday. I bought it used 22 months ago at around 110,500 miles, and it's at 135,150 miles now. It came with 36,000 mile warranty when I bought it. I hope this is covered under a level 2 warranty otherwise I am SOL if this is hundreds of dollars out of my pocket to fix. Just in case if you are all wondering, my vehicle is a SUV a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T AWD.

    • @mathias0584
      @mathias0584 Před 16 dny

      @@AL-vo6ne after the diagnostic test from the dealership, they said the valve in cylinder 2 broke and a piece fell down into the cylinder. There was no compression. They told me the engine is done, and I need a new engine. The extended warranty company is fighting liability. They forced the dealership to tear down the engine to find the exact cause. They just now got the engine tore down, and I am waiting for an insurance adjuster to go out there and inspect it and make a decision if they are going to cover it or not. Over 3 weeks without my car, and I'm only this far. I'm beyond pissed! They are really dragging their feet with this whole process. Trying to find rides to work over the last few weeks has been a challenge. I had to burn almost all of my vacation time because of it. Yeah, I'm not happy. Hopefully, I will know something tomorrow or Thursday if they are going to cover it.

      If yours doesn't feel different then just clear the code. If it feels odd like it's running poorly then take it in the shop and just have em check it over
