  • The FIXD wireless OBD2 scanner and free app for iPhone and Android translates your check engine light into plain English so you can rest easy. In this video, we explain what OBD2 code P0300 means and possible causes.
    P0300 means one or multiple random cylinders misfiring in your engine.
    A misfire occurs when an insufficient amount of fuel is burned in a cylinder. The efficient burning of fuel is essential to engine operation as the combustion of fuel is what provides the energy to power the engine. A misfire from two or more cylinders can be caused by many reasons from a faulty ignition system, fuel system, or internal engine failure.
    When P0300 occurs, it should be fixed immediately as long term driving with engine misfires could cause consequential damage to your engine and catalytic converter(s). Many times, P0300 occurs when there are worn out spark plugs, spark plug wires, or a faulty ignition coil.

    I love this video and saved me a tow and dealer repair charges. My 04 Golf all of a sudden gave P301,302,303 and 300. Could not drive the car and ran ultra rough. I swapped out the battery first and that fixed problem with no more error code and motor runs perfect as it always does. Thanks again for the video and saving me lots of money.

      @2011CrownVictoria Před 11 měsíci +3

      Yeah there is literally no way a bad battery would cause a car to run rough. What do you think a battery does exactly? You probably had bad gas but had already burned most or all of it before changing the battery. When you disconnected the old battery you reset the ECU and all DTCs with it. See what happened here? Since you cleared the codes yourself they weren’t there anymore and since you probably burned off the shit gas the codes weren’t about to come back.
      Congrats, you spent $200 on an issue that would’ve sorted itself out with time and a $7 bottle of Lucas fuel treatment.

    I had P0300 error code on my Jeep Patriot and took it to my regular repair shop. It did not seem to have any abnormality. The shop manager ran a computer diagnostic and it turned out there is nothing wrong with it. He said sometimes one random misfire on any plug for no reason will cause the computer to remember and display this code. He reset the computer and charged me $0. He told me to come back if I get P0300 again. Just wanted to share my experience here and great job explaining the potential problems.

    So, is it the P0300 that caused the P0014 code on my 2014 Nissan Rogue, or other way around? I’ve read so many different opinions and fixes here on CZcams that I don’t know what to believe anymore. Some videos talk about replacing camshaft, VVT sensors. Vehicle has 101,000 Kms, so I guess I can start with a new set of Iridium spark plugs, even though original ones are supposed to go to 160,000 Kms.

    Hey, i have a grand Cherokee laredo 2009 3.7L , there was a problem with coil number 5, i'v replaced it also replaced spark plugs, but some times when i'm driving the car suddenly i feel a high vibration it looks like from the engine but when i stop the car and start it again after 1 minute i don't feel any vibration, with a scanner there is misfire with cylinder 3, any thoughts about the problem please!!

    • @fixdapp
      @fixdapp  Před 4 lety +1

      Misfires can be caused by several different things. It sounds like you're on the right path with replacing the coilpack and plugs. Always be sure to replace the spark plugs with a good quality plug. Example is an O.E recommended replacement, and be sure to replace all spark plugs at the same time. P0300 is a fault for random multiple misfire, P0303 is misfire cylinder 3. If cylinder 3 now has a misfire you can quickly find out if this is a coilpack issue by swapping the coil pack from the cylinder with the misfire code to a cylinder that does not have the fault. Example for cylinder 3 misfire. Engine off Locate cylinder 3 coil pack. Standing in front of the engine , driver side (bank 2) there will be three coilpacks. Counting from the front of the car to the back these cylinders are 1,3,5. Remove the coil pack from cylinder 3 and swap that one with cylinder 1 or 5 (all coil packs are the same so whichever one is easiest to get to). Reinstall and start up engine. If the misfire fault moved from cylinder 3 to the cylinder you installed the coil pack, you know that you are looking at faulty coil pack.Now there are a few other things that can cause a misfire. Look for any vacuum leaks. There are many plastic / rubber hoses under the hood and over time these can become brittle and crack or break. When this happens unmetered air can be entering the system causing the vehicle to run lean and causing a rough running issue or misfire. A vacuum leak can be hard to find and may require a smoke test to be performed in order to find the leak. There are a few different ways to quickly check for a vacuum leak. First do a visual inspection looking for any cracked lines, hoses etc. Then gently move the hoses, lines etc around and listen for any hissing noises or changes in idle when doing so. Another way is to spray a small amount of brake cleaner or carb cleaner on connection areas. This will increase the idle also letting you know there is a leak. BE SURE TO NOT SPRAY CARB CLEANER OR BRAKE CLEANER ON HOT SURFACES OR IGNITION ITEMS AS IT IS FLAMABLE! A few other things that can cause random multiples engine misfire are faulty fuel injector, dirty fuel injectors, dirty or clogged fuel filter, vacuum leaks, mass air flow sensor along with other sensors in the system. Once all other items are ruled out next step would be to check engine health by doing a compression / leak down test. This may be something you will need to have your local auto shop do as special tools are required.
      Hope this helps!

    Only problem is most cars now a days the voltage regulator is computer controlled like with Honda and the ELD in the underhood fuse box, it reports to the ECU to tell it what to do as for charging the field of the Alternator to put less load on the engine. Turning on thing's like headlights and blower motors should make the ELD tell the ECU to crank up voltage from the Alternator and if it doesn't you could get the wrong reading

    I have a 2000 JEEP Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L Straight 6 and when starting it up sometimes it will have a really nasty misfire and if I just rev it up or just start driving you can hear when the other cylinders actually start firing. I have codes P0138,P0300 has anyone else had the same issue as well??? I've changed plugs and didn't really help then I bought the coil pack and yes its the weird one where you get all 6 on a long bar. When I replaced that my JEEP would not run at all. So I put the old one back on and it ran fine other than the misfire once in a while. Its not every time I start it just when it wants to be stubborn. Any ideas anybody??

    2:10 in the video, the issue with a vacuum leak is going to be a lean condition which means insufficient fuel, too much oxygen for the mixture as another way of saying it. I would recommend a correction to the video.

    • @eddielorenz1380
      @eddielorenz1380 Před 4 lety +4

      Help please! So my 370z has CEL on with random misfire code P0300 with high idle of 1000 RPM at cold start. I've changed sparkplugs, welded a crack in the catalyst converter, cleaned air intake filters and CEL didn't go away. What's your advice for the next steps? Should I change coil pack, fuel filter, and camshaft position sensors? Thanks

    • @moparmadness74dodge
      @moparmadness74dodge Před 3 lety +2

      @@brandontran5160 If the idle will not return to 'normal' with some runtime, also with a multi cylinder misfire code, I would expect you have a vacuum leak somewhere. That would be the first thing to rule out anyway if there are no other codes. The crack in the cat also suggests maybe (not always) but that it could have experienced excessive heat which is another symptom of a vacuum leak, if the mixture is lean it will increase the exhaust gas temp. This can be hard on an engine if it is a large enough leak to keep the condition lean during heavy loads.
      There isn't a lot of information in this post to draw any more conclusions, but I would start it and let it idle, listen around the engine bay for sucking sounds, review the vacuum lines for integrity and make sure all are attached where needed. Sometimes during service a line can be left off and it is a simple as reattaching.
      Google the year of your car, model and 'vacuum diagram', it's likely you will find a diagram with the lines to check.

      Check your spark plugs first, probably replace them either way given how cheap and easy they are. If that doesnt help, test or replace the ignition coils with a spark tester or multimeter google it, if the coils are good next check/replace your fuel filter, if that's still not fixing it, try a fuel injector cleaner, after that look for leaks in your vacuum lines and intake system, last thing it would probably be if its not any of that its time to replace the fuel injectors.

      That caught my eye/ear too. He shouldnt list "per plug" but he is about right on the costs and even under in some cases. All three of the vehicles we have require the removal of the intake manifold to access all the plugs. Just about any modern V6 or smaller is going to be like that. It took me the better part of two hours to do them on a 2013 Town & Country...and you know book rate will be at least double that. At just $90 an hour you're looking at probably at least 3.5 hours on book rate and if you figure 6 plug you are at $52.5 per so yeah, that's probably about right.
