      To me a follow-up of sorts to the Ford Racing video would be awesome as a stretch goal. This would be a video about other Single-Brand Racing games like Need for Speed Porsche, World Racing (Mercedes) or SCAR: Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo. This is of cause assuming that you still find enjoyment in driving average, boring cars in games.

    I really wish there were more racing games, not just sims but of any kind, that would go as hard on the "live the fantasy of competing in a racing series" approach as the F1 games do. I think part of why the broader racing genre has suffered so much in the last decade is because "win every race on this checklist" just isn't compelling anymore, no matter how you dress it up. I bring this up because I frustratingly have just never been able to get into F1 games despite watching and following it in real life, and am dying to have something non-F1 that offers what they have in terms of career mode. Even Codies just making Grid more like F1 would be a start.

      Yep, I feel like this is where PC3 could’ve shone honestly. But it wouldn’t have been in the cards financially, and in a broader sense I don’t think anyone is going to be able to afford to license enough racing leagues, teams and drivers to fill out a roster like PC3.
      *but* I think something like a game focused on all of the FIA or WEC events could definitely work

      @@Kaceydotme I actually believe, as hard of a sell as it would be, a game that didn't even have any licensing could be really good if it leveraged the lack of restrictions to have compelling story possibilities.
      Even a fully arcadey and fantastical racer with season long points racing, full race weekends, interesting pit strategy, meaningfully different teams to sign for, car R&D, media and sponsor obligations, etc., etc. has a ton of potential if done in a way where the pacing is still appropriate.

    • @suntannedduck2388
      @suntannedduck2388 Před 2 lety

      Agreed. Gravel was fine, can't say for Hotwheels and then there is futuristic ones coming back and kart racers are just horrible outside the main ones. Not played Art of Rally but it was something. WipEout on mobile put it to me that big companies don't care for arcadey games, Japan pushes their light gun shooters, the AAs of the west making Redout and Xenon and Fast Racing exist but otherwise arcadey seems to be going to those that see the gap then others jumping to offer anything.
      I'm all for not licensed if they need to start out or just offer something different and inspired by the licensed vehicles (more open ended besides just cars with bikes, quad, trucks, whatever) if they want to be that close.
      But otherwise the gems I saw in Dustin Eden's 2021 racing games video was a surprise then the seasonal, the whatever of Riders Republic and so on.
      But I barely see or care outside of the fifth/sixth gen racing games as many IPs are gone and the few arcadey or Sim I see outside the big 2 or seasonal are fine but aren't always that appealing. Great ideas and layouts even if simplicity in some games I had my fair share of fun with them.
      Not as bad as Shooters where I haven't played a modern one since Titanfall 2 only PS3/360/Wii era ones. Bright Memory Infinite sparked my interest but not played it.
      There is a gap that can be filled that isn't.
      I'd be fine with fictional cars if possible just to get it off the ground than licensed being tough then move up to licenses later.
      PC3 has been enough to be Shift 2 and new side of frustrating because it just wants NFS UNDERGROUND Rivals levels of not annoying me enough but with challenges being picky, the outside line being too picky and AI being either too dumb or too sneaky that it's annoying how much you can or cannot catch up because the game wants to fight with you then actually be reasonable. I am not good at racing games but it's hilariously bad. Sigh.
      An arcadey PGR, Ridge Racer or something in the modern space would do nicely. Another MotorStorm even.
      If upgrades, tyre difference maybe, open ended event selection maybe if variety of off and on road and silly/fantasy (if fantasy in the GT way than too overly silly so that it's serious enough fantasy) to smartly designed tracks with whatever to add to stats or some interest for the player I'm fine with that sponsors (fake or real).

    It's too unpolished to be enjoyable even at 1 month post launch for this year unfortunately. Last year had some kinks early on but they fix them pretty quickly. The car does seem to handle realistically from what the drivers described how the real car drives, fighting understeering into corner and oversteer on exit, which is a lot more comfortable than last year where the rear would just step out at any moment. Honestly it may be worth keep tracking of the updates and return at a later date but this year is a step back in terms of codies' incremental improvements over the last few years

    • @lordeilluminati
      @lordeilluminati Před 2 lety +6

      Changing the game engine isnt always a good solution, like F1 2015 was. Codies changed the engine and the game was one of the worst F1 games in history. Games like Call of Duty dont suffer too much of engine changes because there are three studios working in rotation, even though the franchise is annual. When an annual franchise just changes engines from one year to another it is not a good sign and the player is only a beta tester for something that can be good way later

Great on both wheel and controller, with accessible yet believable physics, proper singleplayer and working (just pretend F1 multiplayer is functional for a moment pls) "jump&play" multiplayer.

    F1 is the only annual sports game I play. Mainly because I’m not interested in most sports and most sports games to me are rather boring. What will be interesting is if EA plans to ruin the franchise by overly monetizing every inch and including an F1 version of ultimate team, and the other being how much further Codies can improve the realism and maybe visuals. Hopefully more the later than the former.

    I’m always annoyed by the vocal minority of elitist sim racers that shit on in these game’s physics for not being realistic enough, like saying that Kunos should develop them and shit. They don’t understand that goal is for these games to be accessible to both wheel and controller, and even keyboard, it’s suppose to give you of what they might feel but not replicate them entirely, plus, they act like they know the cars single-handedly and they drive them everyday, and I play Assetto Corsa and appreciate the game

  • @howiieb
    @howiieb Před 2 lety +14

    I'm personally surprised by your take that the handling this year isn't substantially harder than last year's, but it is of course subjective. I feel like the lowered aero on these cars has made them significantly harder to get around a track in one piece. I've had to lower my difficulty by over 20 points (and while I know the AI has excessive pace right now, a portion of this *is* down to my lack of confidence in the cars), and my old driving habits had me spinning out of *every* corner on the track until I adjusted hard, with me now really working on getting the pace back. My experience is affected by being a TC Medium driver, however - it feels as if that setting specifically has gotten way, way more punishing and way, way weaker, and the cars on the same settings drive like the F2 ones did in last year's game. I'm not even sure it's a complaint, it's a challenge for me to get better, but it just interests me seeing mainstream opinions diverge so much from my experience.

    • @Kaceydotme
      @Kaceydotme  Před 2 lety +6

      It’s definitely *harder* in spots (low speed corners especially) but like I said, it feels way more predictable and fair. When I spin in 22, I know why. In 21, Im left scratching my head trying to figure out if I used too much throttle or if the physics were being stupid. Like, that little square of kerb in Jeddah is ridiculous.
      I’m with you re: turning difficulty down. I had meant to add a sentence to this video about wishing the AI had an aggression slider. They actually race each other and make mistakes now, which is great, but they go for some very stupid sends. As realistic as that may be, it’s very frustrating for the AI to try and overtake 4 wide into turn one.

I do agree that the cars feel more forgiving but also bizarrely I've actually had more spins in 22 than in 21. My take on this game (and F1 Game Series itself):
    I think that with F1 22, Codemasters have shown that they have no idea how to create a polished racing game anymore and have generally no interest of fixing it's biggest flaws from 2015!
    The Positives:
    The handling model now feels more controllable and you finally understand, why you have spun at some places. And also with the latest patches, the cars do have some much needed rear-end grip, which is superb. Moreover, it feels like they tried to make some elements like brake overheating, tyre temperatures etc. more noticeable, which is good.
    AI also shows some desire to fight for on-track position with the player. But I still have multiple issues with them (More on that in the Negatives).
    Presentation wise it's okay, I think. Cutscene wise, it's still rough, but it's a sports game, so I don't expect that much.
    The Negatives:
    AI: I don't know how stupid they were whilst coding the AI. Whilst it's nice, that they are able to race you harder now, it's stupid that they are so fast on the straights. (Yea I know they are on it, but come on! Every predecessor was better in that regard) It completely killed my motivation to play career mode and I will continue, when they have finally adressed this issue, which makes 50% of the game worthless. (BTW: I have noticed that the variety in terms of strategy is basically zero, like in the F2 class of previous games. Well done Codemasters!)
    Multiplayer: Every year the same story. They are just unable to fix issues from F1 2015, and I just can't understand why. And whilst it will be nice to have Crossplay, I fear that the bugs in the lobbies will get even more than now. Also, formation lap is worthless, as nearly everyone will lose their tyre temperatures anyway. And I am getting sick and tired of it. It just destroys normal league racing.
    F2: Still no variety in strategies, poor AI speed and still broken results (Deledda won a race LMFAO)!
    DLC Tracks not in career mode!
    F1 Life: Pointless feature, which nobody wanted or needed. What about classic cars and tracks for launch?????????
    Summary:
    When everything will be fixed, I still believe that F1 2016, 2018 and 2020 were better games than 22. They were just straight fun out of the box. OK, 2018 is a little bit biased I know due to some major online bugs (e.g. de-sync), but still I think that 22 isn't a good game. And here's a hot take: I think they should stick with rally and GRID games. Those are much more enjoyable than F1 is atm. Idk who should develop F1, but not Codies.
    And no, this isn't EAs fault btw.

    Interesting to hear. The footage does show. Sigh. Funny but still. 2011 was rough for me and the content wasn't there than MotoGP (though not played newer entries of either MOTOGP/F1/WRC at all). Otherwise yeah story is a thing where they could commit to multiple endings/possibilities but that's a lot of work for annual it especially isn't happening. At least how I see stories being possible. Visual novels can, some RPGs do the D&D way other games just have talking points, but making it match gameplay is hard but it is possible if they put effort in and I respect it. R Racing Evolution's was fine, TOCA never experienced even 3's. Grid Legends is still expensive so waiting for it to go down and not going for the let's plays even though could.
    Stream wasn't my thing but I assuming fun for those that cared. I can't offer anything but I always rewatch videos every so often so ads there would be the best I can do. Hope in a better situation.
    Nitro DS is fine not amazing but less frustrating than the Wii one I swear GameCube controller or not I have more issues with it or maybe on par with Underground Rivals or Shift 2 Unleashed the only NFS games I own as open worlds aren't my thing. DS was painless in comparison and it was great to me even for how full it can be and handling things better than the Wii version. Only played the Nitro X version to see how it differed and to own at least 1 DSiware game.

    compared to other sports games something really bothers me as a long time F1 player.
    cause while most other sports games innovate just as little, very few are as broken as F1.
    some of the bugs have been in the series for almost a decade now, the technical side is a mess, even after years of iteration, every patch is a coinflip as to whether it bricks the game.
    i played 22 on launch for like a week, wanted to go back to it last week, surprise, the game no longer launches!
    pretty much like clockwork every game has hard crashes during races, hard crashes on launch, odd performance glitches, the game lags when the host tabs out, the safety car is so broken its almost an unwritten rule to never use it...
    thered be enough to complain with useless features like the new furniture, that the AI takes one step forward one step back every year, but more often than not i dont even get that deep because the game DOESNT FUCKING WORK HALF THE TIME

    I cannot give Codemasters any more benefit of the doubt. Ever since the first DiRT Rally their games have gone from amazing gameplay to a feature dump with a terrible gameplay loop.
    F1 is by far their worst series, and F1 22 is an overall bad game.
    I sadly can't agree with your statement of the game doing a good job at being accessible to the fans of real F1, I actually believe F1 22 (and some older titles too) is extremely hard to enjoy with a gamepad, which is likely how the majority of people will be playing.
    Codemasters no longer knows how to make a game work on keyboard, gamepad and wheel, and they were able to do it before.
    AC Competizione has an alright controller assist while having really good physics, meaning you don't need to make a game play like NFS to have good control of a car when not using a wheel, heck, even Richard Burns Rally beats almost all newer racing games when it comes to controller support and assist.
    I hate how the same company that made me fall in love with racing with games like DiRT 2 and GRID Autosport is now putting out duds that struggle to sell backed by the fact that these games have huge price cuts sometimes as early as 3 months after launch.
    I wanted to enjoy F1 22, I like high downforce cars in games like AC and GT, but sadly the controls are so badly processed it's impossible for me to have a fun time.
    Sadly, and as you've glossed over on "The catch", the way this series seems to be going is towards having more lifestyle elements and things to put in the box other than improving the part people like me enjoy the most, the actual driving.
    To me, the best sports game yearly release is WRC. For how big the studio developing the WRC games is, and how little experience they have, the game feels great to play.
    It is pretty far from perfect, don't get me wrong, but the evolution it has gone through is honestly amazing and it genuinely feels like a passion project, not a game churned out by an AI trying to just sell a product.
    Sorry for the long comment, this is also just my opinion and I hope I didn't come across as rude. I truly believe F1 22 can be a better game with not a whole lot of changes and Codemasters can also do better, but I honestly don't think it'll happen anytime soon.
    Best of luck for the housing situation, stay strong!

Also, the car in 2020 is much more stable and precise than the 22 cars. AC moders win another year, a sad reality for multi-mullion $ company. Also, f1 does not look better on ps5 than on PC, it also does not have mods, reshade. I don't know what happened here but you should go back to being real like before.
