- NARROW ESCAPE - our narrowboat life adventure. In this episode, we set off from lovely Chester at the bottom of the staircase locks before cruising through the historic city. We link up with a fabulous crew of hire boaters from New Zealand who are absolute dynamos on the locks and rise the flight before finding a lovely mooring spot in tranquility.

Hi, lovely video as usual, thanks! The ‘chimney’ near the modern buildings is actually a shot tower, originally used for producing lead shot for shooting purposes. Moulten lead was dripped from the top down the middle of the tower into water, forming perfect spheres as it fell. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Oh, and hi to Ian!

Lovely cruise through some superb des res areas and pretty countryside.
I didn't realise Sue had such a nice singing voice.
My Uke group did a gig last Friday. Two stints in a local Hospice. The staff and patients really enjoyed our performances and I get a real sense of satisfaction, knowing I have brightened up someone's day whatever their circumstances.
Doing another Gig tomorrow morning at a Church nearby.

You'll have to stop bumping in to other vloggers (NB Tommi), especially as they're further ahead than you guys - although not by much!! Funny when you said 'it will be snowing soon' and on the day you post the video it is snowy and icy over on the East coast. Hope you're both keeping warm, Kevin

@tangs167 it’s a good point K. We’ve got a stoppage too on our planned route so some of our Christmas to early New Year plans are scuppered due to that, and we all know how stoppages can be extended…

On another day we would have but time wasn’t with us this day for where we wanted to be and I’ve (Elliott typing) already been before and Sue isn’t massively keen on cities, even though I have told her how nice this one is.

😮 OK can anyone tell me why the English Narrowboaters are so obsessed with "Kingfisher" birds? I swear every narrowboater talks about them! Why?
Absolutely amazing creatures and to see one is both a treat and a privilege.
@@NarrowEscape1 sorry I am from Canada and see every type of bird imaginable so I guess I am just used to them. Is there something special about Kingfishers. Please, I am not meaning to sound insulting, I just don't understand the attraction. Are they rare there? Do they have cultural significance like Ravens in that tower? Literally every Narrowboat CZcams channel gets excited about Kingfishers. OK thanks for any info, just curious eh.

We don’t think Kingfishers have any cultural or historical ‘importance’ as such but they are a rare sight here because they are such private birds. If you capture a glimpse they are usually ‘off’.
They look amazing though and in flight are stunning. They are shaped like an arrow but their backs have the most amazing glistening blue so when flying away from you they look like a bright electric blue shock - stunning.
Conversely their chests are a vibrant burnt orange colour and are very distinctive so you see that, and occasional blue flashes when they fly towards you (which they more rarely do).
A rare treat to see here so we can understand why everyone else is so happy to see them too.
