    I inhereted my dad's 98 Dakota R/T, red, extended cab....now I'm going through the process of fixing it. My other car is a modern Porsche, but I feel like I'm in high school again every time I drive the R/T! Love this video...

      @@uncle_salty_3675 Being that the car lived mostly in Indiana the entire exhaust had to be replaced...I just went with an OE muffler and it sounded great. Truck is gone now

    Always wanted one, found and bought one last year with 140k kilometers. I love the low end power, the rumble, the styling, the handling, and the looks It gets from people who pull up.

    Got me a 2002 quad cab with the 5.9. Love it. Torque, sound, none of this non reactive throttle by wire crap. Go baby go.

      I agree. I have a 05 sierra with electronic throttle and I hate it. It sounds like I can't drive with a muffler on it because it doesn't react instantly. Just bought an 04 Dakota and it's still cable thankfully

    So glad you re uploaded this....it was lost to the world for the longest time. Those 5.9s were wicked little trucks back in the day, and the 360 was a great platform for more power. Been looking for a nice one for a while, but they're getting rare

    great vintage view, thnx! the good 'ol Newark Delaware plant RIP! Man..The Dak & 1st gen Durango were and are still the best stuff out there in their class and beyond. i rly miss my '00 Durango 4x4. & those are hot times for that era, geez! & with a pair of EQ heads & a cam, exaust..the sky is the limit on those lil monsters. ofc nowadays, seems a 5.7L Hemi is about the same $ in a salvage yrd as the magnum V8's are..$1-2k. a 5.2 or 5.9 a decade ago..$500-700. now? ha..good luck finding one..at least around Wi. i think many were gobbled up by the crate engine ppl to clean up, pop in a cam & re sell for $5k, lol.

    Bought and still have my 98 Dakota sport with a 5.2L 5 speed manual that I set up like the R/T. Lowered it 2" front and rear, headers with a dual cat back gibson exhaust and K&N cold air intake. Was always able to smoke the 5.9 R/T off the line everytime.

    • @ElectronicsForFun
      @ElectronicsForFun Před 4 lety

      the 5.2 magnum was a great engine. it was a clone of the old MoPar 318 LA block which didn't make much power stock but it was bullet proof reliable and had lots of pony potential. it was the perfect muscle car engine for a motor head.

    I bought a used one 7 years ago. And its a blast.. 2300 stall from mopar, performance computer, shorties, its a blast at traffic lights, found a cheap stroker, and have a few bolt ons, m1 intake, performance cam, 1.6 rockers, and 4:10 gears, but you could slip that combo in a 91-95 considerably lighter.... oh wait i do have a vortex supercharger I acquired cheap.. get er done

    Bought my 98 blk club cab in the same year. It was the last one in Florida. I've had it ever since. Lots of street racing, drag racing, fooling around, towing, and cross-country trips. It's got 120k miles. I had the transmission built to 48RE specs in 2001, no issues and 12lbs of vortec T trim boost. Lots of muscle and durability. I would have destroyed a mustang or camaro by now. 5.9 liter mustang eater

    I owned a the rarest Dakota R/T ever made.
    A 1998 single cab, "Intense Blue" (1of 39) with air, tilt, cruise no power options.
    And like a moron, I traded it in when the Hemi came out.
    Turned out to be the worst vehicle I ever owned.
    If anyone is willing to part with my old truck or similar, let me know.
    I'm not short on cash and would love to fix my mistake.

      Kelly H my dad owned a quadcab 1 of 1. It was a dealership conversion. I thought it was factory when i was younger. He later did a full rebuild and stroked it out to a 408, man eater cams. On a full hotchkiss suspension. And he even sold the r/t LSD for some 1200 dollar differential.

    One thing a 5.9 could do is drink some serious gas lol. My dad had a '98 2wd short bed ram with a 5.9. It disappointed me tho, becuz I expected it to have a lot more low end torque. The magnum really doesn't come alive until the mid range, 3-4k rpm is where it makes its best power. Then after 4.5k it falls off the table, no top end at all.

    • @sactownmopar
      @sactownmopar Před 5 lety

      very true, i can punch mine at a certain speed it astonishes people then after a certain rpm it falls flat on its face. its still a fun truck to drive though!

    • @gzuzsavz
      @gzuzsavz Před 5 lety +1

      the R/T wasn't saddled with the standard computer, which dialed torque off till about 20 mph or so..as an early version or traction control. a hi po computer in the 5.2 & 5.9 rly wakes them up.

    $19,000 for a truck that performs like a muscle car. Damn those were the good days. Now you gotta pay $100,000 after t,t & t.

  • @forgottenmuscletrucks

    I had a single cab 98 model R/T. I oftened wondered seeing this commerical of the chances this was my old one brand new. Seeing that they only made 90ish in 98 that were single cab short bed flame red. LoL I'm a goof.

    I'm looking for one myself! My father has an '01 Durango r/t, which I love. Much more space, and more seating with the third row. beautifully equipped espescially with the flip-down screen, and rear air. But I'd love owning the Dakota r/t, especially considering how much lighter it will be. But I was told (atleast with the Durango) that it was all time AWD. Was the Dakota different in that aspect? or was I told wrong?

    Nice trucks but ill keep my 96 dak short bed 5.2 five speed. Power nothing, no ac, truck doesn't weigh much at all. My 2014 dart is 1k heavier. Only mods I've done is headers, Hughes air gap intake and 3 inch exhaust front to back. Plus it's 4x4 so I can plow in the winter. I've out run a few rts on the highway.
