The MOZA SlyPod Pro - I never thought I could get these shots from a slider!

- The SlyPod Pro slider from Moza is a huge improvement on the previous SlyPod but it's still far from perfect. However, this slider is capable of getting brilliant slides that even the most expensive other sliders would never get. Moza sent this to me for FOC but I haven't been paid anything and this is a 100% honest review. Will I use it? Yes, absolutely. In fact, I'll use this for a lot of upcoming videos. I think the work I put into this video and my enthusiasm in the video says a lot about this product. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments below.

Pros
Incredibly versatile range of slides
Compact and quick to setup
Decent slide length and speed
Cons
Poor hardware functionality (app reliant)
Not as smooth as I hoped
Too loud for interview work
Note* in the video I complain quite a bit about the lack of buttons on the device itself. I never mentioned that there's an optional remote control which can also control other Moza devices. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
New to your channel. Your work is really top notch. Do you have a video where you talk about how you learned and got the skills you have today? Thanks!
Thanks a lot Austin, I appreciate the nice comment. That sounds like a good idea for a video. I'm swamped in work at the mo but will hopefully do something like that soon!
I had been researching sliders for a year at half this price point, but I bought this within hours of discovering it because its design is a game changer. Despite a few features I would have liked to see, there is nothing else on the market at this point that has its level of versatility. Plus, when I told my partner she could film overhead cooking videos with it she was immediately on board.
Yeah, it's great for 'high' stuff. The iFootage is similarly priced and might work better for interview style shots.
Fantastic review. Thanks for posting Hugh. I need to get one of these ! Did not know this existed. Seems to be more versatile than a typical slider for outdoor shots. Love it. All the best from Toronto!
Beautiful review. One of the best I have seen for the moment. Well done. Very nice shots showing the possibilities.
That's what I like to hear. Thanks a lot!
I love seeing the amount of effort you put into the shots and your video overall! Nicely done!!! 👌👌👌
I love the way you present. You've got a great presence and as well as getting quality information, I would choose watching your channel over tv to relax any day 😊
Thanks a lot man!
Great work and one of the best reviews on the Slypod Pro so far
Hey, that means a lot. Thanks so much for the nice comment!
thanks for the honest review Hugh, I really appreciate your perspective.
Whoa... that is a crazy slider design. Heh, who knew you can turn a slider into that!.
Another excellent review. Thanks Hugh.
Thanks Brendan, glad you like it.
I didn't know much about SlyPod.
I got to know you thanks
I enjoyed the video
Thanks for the great work, awesome footages and very impressive explanations….
Thanks for the review - I'm off to buy one now that I have seen it.
The SlyPod pro is literally twice the slider of the previous version. Get it here igg.me/at/2F8T-Pqj74I/x#/
Great video Hugh. Thank you.
Wow, I did not even know that such a piece of gear exists. I am in the middle of making up my mind about a motorized slider, and now I need to rethink. Only the weight limit could be a bit of a challenge for my LUMIX S1H, but I need to recheck the weight of it. Another nice thing is to add a gimbal at the top of a slider, allowing to pan an tilt the camera while sliding, but it may add additional weight. Love your videos!
Thanks! good review, thinking about getting one.
Very good presentation with a hand full of good examples - very nice Hugh…👍
Thanks!
Good review and very informative, well done Hugh
Nice shots and nice review :D
Thank you for the review.
Great! THanx a lot!
Just go and get one now! :)
Amazing job on the video. Great demonstrations in it
I love this video. I'm buying it!!!
well done - thank you for taking your time to review the Slyder.
No problem, thanks for the comment.
Very very good review, answered pretty much everything!!
Thank you Hugh. I'm buying one.
Well done! I really enjoyed your video and I will buy one! Thanks!
Hey Hugh, I know I am late to the game... but I found your review of this slider and wanted to say how informative and interesting it is. I actually have one coming in a few days and hope I can use it to up my game on videos. I don't vlog... but I have a few ideas to at least try and I thought this just might push me to try it. If I don't like it... no one has to see it and I will find was to use it in my wildlife videos. Greg
Thanks. Useful review
Thanks for an honest review.
Great Review! Thank you!
Thanks for the review !
Great Work 👍🏻
Great video. I learned a lot. Thanks
Awesome, honest neview. 👍
Good man Hugh! You put a pile of work into that! Not sure that yoke is for me but you definitely got the best out of it. 😎👍
Cheers Matt, yeah, i meant to do a 'quick video' but that rarely happens.
Really cool vid!
Really like the tea break at 7:17. I got some time to assimilate the information provided in previous 7 minutes. And it is great that the tea reappeared and concluded the video at 13:56.
Ha ha, the tea is very important for me. As seen in my other vids! Glad u liked it.
Very good review with all the pros and cons that are important. Thank you :).
Hope there will be a new version of the slypod with a better control, less Loud, and compatible to other Gimbals.
Thanks Dennis, yeah, I'd really love to sit with the engineers designing the new version and scream into their ears where I want the to put the controls!
Really classy video Hugh. A great template for how to present a review. I got one on the strength of this. It's arriving today after a 3-month wait so It better be good : )
Hey, thanks a lot for the nice comment. I really appreciate it. Let me know what you think of the device, I hope you get some nice shots with it.
@@HuFilms Hi Hugh. Slypod finally arrived. Heavy-duty bit of kit as advertised. Got it up and running in a few minutes. Did a few tests using a Panasonic HC-X1500 4k camcorder. It took the weight without any problems. Glad I got it. Worth the wait.
looks like an excellent device, cheers for the video
You're welcome, glad you like it!
very nice man, thanks for that
Very Nice shots
Thanks a lot!
Great review, 🍻
Thanks a lot.
Thanks for the review. That wobble killed it for me. Decided not to buy. 👍🏻
Just liked and subscribed! Another fantastic video! Question: Would you recommend this for a camera setup that's about 5 pounds with a longer lens? Thank you!
Very nice, informative video. What is the tripod you're using in tandem with the Slypod?
well done!
Cool video, im Waiting for mine to be shipped
Awesome!
Hi Hugh, was intrigued by your "filmaker" signature after reading a comment on facebook from yourself & found myself on your you tube channel shortly after watching some of your gear reviews etc. I am not a filmmaker just a hobbyist togger who sometimes presses record on my little S5 and chucks them togther for my friends to have a laugh but I like to see how people make these cinematic shots etc and found your review of this very good and interesting. atb Alan
Thanks a lot for the lovely comment Alan. I enjoy getting this positive feedback. Hope all is well with you and that you're enjoying filming with the S5. It's a lovely little camera.
Great vid Huey. Lovely shots of the Bunny, and Renville woods too I think?
Hey AK! Welcome to the HughTube. Yeah, the bunny is class. Swimming pool warm in summer. Yeah, Renville woods all the way.
@@HuFilms Yes. Recognised it. Many are the walks I had around there with Smith back in the day... He's 15 now and grey 😘
Aww poor Smith. Such a lovely doggie!
Nice video Hugh, as I have been looking at getting a Slypod for some food filming. May I ask what model of Kenro tripod and head that it is you're using, as I went to the Kenro website and couldn't see exactly the same model? cheers
Good 👍 reviews
Great video!
Thanks!
Only come across your channel Hugh, a great review .what tripod do you use with it .subbed and best wishes John from Manchester ❤❤❤❤❤
I wish the Kickstarter campaign explained the value of the remote control and shutter release cable.
I am with you that devices really need decent controls so that users don't have to rely on apps to get jobs done.
Honestly, for filmmaking the best way to quickly get shots done is to have it in cycle mode. Let it slide away in and out and have yourself or your subjects walk in and out of frame while it's doing the move. A simple 'cycle' mode button would be great instead of holding the plus and minus buttons for 3 or 4 seconds and wondering if it's in cycle mode or not as is something that keeps happening me. Three buttons on the upper handle would go a long way.
hey just gone for myself! but whats that tripod youre using? thanks! great vid!
awesome
The app is the best part about this. It is by far the best app of any motorized slider. I wish the developer that made the app joins forces with GVM or neewer... Or just moza make a normal track slider with this app. Please.
The deal breaker on this is the loudness. I can see this being great for studio and interview use, but not with that mechanical sound. Stealth motors are available. They are faster and quiter.
Hi. Would love to know more about how to connect this Slypod Pro to a camera for shooting timelapse photos.
What tripod model were you using. Great video by the way. I ended up buying the slypod pro
a Kenro tripod, I wouldn't recommend it to be honest. The hinges at the top of the legs keep loosening and it's annoying.
I just got mine today, my only concern, is it allowed inside the airplane? Bec some airlines are too strict with the length,
Great Review Hugh. What is the Tripod you’re using in the review? Thanks!
Kenro ball head carbon. Very cheap!
Great review, would you use it for Wedding Videos, I am worried it might make just too much noise if I wanted to use it for B-Roll during the Ceremony
I think it should be OK. Particularly when in areas of the church that aren't so close to the ceremony like at the back behind people etc. It's hugely quieter than the original slypod. It could be heard when using at full speed up close to the action so maybe consider that too.
watch out for the crocs dont get you. nice vid.
I could be waiting a while for that to happen! Crocs in Ireland 👀
Thanks for all the infos I am very interested in buying one eventually.
Have a great weekend

You're welcome, thanks for the comment!
What about a decent tripod to handle the Slypod Pro?
Isn't the new head works like a ball head? I'm using a Slypod E with a regular ball head, which can adjust to any angle and is much cheaper than the Moza pan/tilt head.
By the way I love the video great job
Thanks Duke, appreciate it man!
Nice review. What is the tripod/head that you are using in the video.
A cheap Kenro tripod. Not sure if I'd recommend it. The hinges at that top of the legs are a pain, the nuts that keep them firm keep loosening.
Nice Sir Am India Cantree
Thank you for nice review and video. Could you tell me the name of the tripod you are using?
Thanks. a Kenro tripod, I wouldn't recommend it to be honest. The hinges at the top of the legs keep loosening and it's annoying.
@@HuFilms Thanks for the reply. I see you don't recommend it, thanks for letting me know.
What Tripod are you using? Thanks!
Can you tell me the tripod model for mounting Slypod with RONIN-S?
I do understand that you're not an app guy , but a walkthrough of the app would have rounded your excellent review that much more.
Thanks, yeah, maybe I should have. I did in the previous review of the first generation Slypod.
I live in Florida near the beaches. Will salt in the air ruin the motor over time? Might even erode the rail system inside and ruin the smoothness of it. Our white soft sand will probably get in it too when the wind blows.
Moza is pushing a $535 special on this “today” anyone know if they fixed the software issues?
If you have the Rhino II Arc would there be any good reason to get this (already having the Aircross II Gimble) ‘cause it looks like it would be easier to setup for vertical shots…
Also, I bought into the Nikon Z6 and no one (other than Atomos Ninja) has bought into that “game changing” (😅) alternative (if Apple FCPX ever comes up with a profile for that ProRes RAW instead of having to use Sony’s CIN to match the Z6’s video chip) 🧐
Th SlyPod pro is a less refined slider (in terms of movement) than the Rhino ARC 2. That said, it's going to be way more convenient for those vertical and low pov moves. I find myself using a traditional slider more bit the slypod is fab for outdoor work where I'm filming myself etc,
You can also use the optional remote controller, its better than using the app
Yeah, but a few extra buttons would be so convenient, save you carrying the controller. I must try it though.
@@HuFilms Yep, I agree. It would also be nice to be able set up a timelapse with the remote controller
@@derekoneill6727 can you not do that? wow, surely they'd implement that via a firmware update.
@@HuFilms Not that I'm aware of anyway
What if you mount a slypod onto a slypod onto another slypod
I purchased this item and it only came with the charging cable how do I get the other cables
Honestly, I'm not sure. Maybe get onto your supplier. I don't really use those cables myself.
What tripod and Video Head are you using?
It's a fairly cheap brand called Kenro. Not sure what model it is.
What tripod are you using with this please?
a Kenro tripod, I wouldn't recommend it to be honest. The hinges at the top of the legs keep loosening and it's annoying.
The slight jitter from the slider or the frame rate edit?
which slide was that? I may have done a speed ramp and forgot to optical flow the frames
@@HuFilms It was early in the video. (Flowers-Greenery)
Awesome vid! How do you get Moza to send you stuff?
What tripod do you use?
A Kenro ball head. Very light and quite cheap. But maybe not the best for a Slypod. Though it was good for low pov stuff.
Awesome location. What’s ur nationality ?
Thanks. I'm Irish!
Does anyone have durability issues with this $500 slider?
What tripod are you using?
Kenro. Not a good one.
@@HuFilms could you recommend one?
Mind to share with me your tripod model?
Not sure what one it is but the brand is kenro.
link your tripod, please
Brand called Kenro.
For close to USD 600 and no used market it's just too specialized. Rank this up there with a probe lens.
dang how is your gold
They better lower the price. Creators will just master pan and zoom in their edits. Shoot 4k and just put footage in 1080 p timeline
You can't make a camera slide in post. It's a completely different look.
@@HuFilms I don’t think you understood my point. But ok.
Seems useless unless you are a solo youtube vlogger who needs lots of non drone moving b-roll while viewers wait to get to the point of the video. But its innovative no doubt!
Firstly, there are a lot of solo / vloggers. Most CZcamsrs work solo! It can do brilliant slides that would be impossible with traditional sliders. But yeah, in a way I see what you're saying.
国产就是屌
this is not slypod pro
