- Kohlrabi has two seasons of growth in our climate when you can sow it now for harvesting in June before it flowers. Then sow again in July for harvest autumn and winter.
I sowed this one on the 4th of July, transplanted early August. This variety is called ‘Blaril’ and it survives moderate frosts.
Kohlrabi! In German Kohl means cabbage and Rabi means turnip which makes it the perfect hybrid of both. It is actually the swollen stem of the cabbage and can be used in any way as we use cabbage!
You can also use the leaves to make this pickling recipe or add other vegetables to complement the flavour of kohlrabi.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 x Kohlrabi
- 10 x Radish
- Pepper grains
- 3/4 Bay Leaves
- Dill
- 2 x Garlic Cloves
- 3.5% saltwater (9g salt x cup of water)
- 1.5 Tsp Sugar x cup of water (optional)
- Vinegar (vinegar to water ration 1:1)
*feel free to replace or add some ingredients

100% would love to see a collab. My two fav ppl
Spicy!! Tickle from the ole pickle!! Yummy!!
I love making these. For a change, I add hot oregano, serrano peppers, onions, garlic, carrots, and radishes. No sugar in the brine just non iodized salt, peppercorns, organic vinegar and filtered water.
Ohhh! I’d like your recipe Barbara Brand.
This guy is the most handsome man I've seen with facial tattoos. They are usually a little off putting to me, but he can pull it off and then some!
Yes. I'm not a fan of face or hand tattoos except on him.
Adding asafoetida powder to the pickle brine tastes really good. My family does it every time these days

Italian American here. We do cucumber, onion, garlic, tomatoes, fresh basil, rosemary, and a pinch of sage in red wine vinegar, and olive oil from Palermo.
Marinate for a day, or forever.
Never heard of that veggie, and a nice crunch, thanks!
I grew up in the state of Washington and was lucky enough to have kohlrabi every year in the garden. It's so delicious it's ridiculous
Your videos always give me good vibes, like soul food.
So satisfyingly HEALTHY. I'm on this healthy, organic, self-sufficient shit this year. These videos are INSPIRATIONAL! THANK YOU. Greetings and Blessings from West Auckland NZ.
Fermented veggies help us “last longer” too as it’s good for the gut. 🤗 I love your content, it’s really wonderful!❤
If he's using vinegar here I don't think it's really fermented is it? Just pickled.
Never said his was fermented, just making the point about fermentation as it’s relatable…and ya, vinegary brine soln. is not fermentation.
@@zahraalmayahi9870 maybe I misunderstood your meaning sorry. All I was saying is the real gut health comes from natural fermentation.
@@puyopop3085 No problemo. Howev, that’s the point I was making in my original post 7 days ago. 😉✌🏽👌🏽.
Got to do this
Very Nice Short Video👍my friennd
I adore pickled vegetables! Looks delicious
No, I didn't know that. I love kohl rabi, must try this on this year's crop.
Pickling is great for the flexibility. I tend to lean towards fermentation, but the time and space/temp requirements for it definitely bring out the appeal of pickling. Thankfully with fermenting it's usually just one big-ish job a year with bulk batches and storage (but a similar argument can be made for pickling 2 or 3 times a year in batches lol).
Yessss! Dowding and the 'stache! He is actually how I found you. Both so different - yet equally calming, informative, and awesome! ❤🌱🤘
Love your vids man
Will you put all you knowledge on gardening and preparing your fruits of labor into a book?
Pasti senang ya wanita yg bisa memilikimu, pintar masak, rajin bertani,
Love your videos 💕 I think they are very inspiring and that you are very knowledgeable about living a healthy life.🥰💯
My mouth literally watered. The minute you took a bite those little glands under the tongue with squirt. Isn't it amazing how the mind can taste and react with digestive enzymes
I’m going to be honest man, I am currently not able to try any of these things that you do. But some of them look so good that it makes my mouth water.
He is awesome in every video thank you soooo much
Looks so good...I do pickle mine occasionally.
Thank you for sharing this

@@KP-bz8xc Thank you for that info? Have you ever used it?
Burned to charcoal egg plant peel.
@Shellsoul429 yep every day. I use lemon, peppermint, and spearamint. We tried the cinnamon but didn't care for it.
Excellent video editing.
Is it necessary to add sugar or can be done without it as I don't like sugar in my food
I have pickled veggies before with just vinegar water and salt. No sugar. Came out great 👍🏼
No. The sugar is just a matter of preference
awesome....i absolutely love your video's.... thanks for sharing..!
This channel actually changed my life :'
I love your videos.. Vicardo Trinidad and Tobago wi

You need too stop watching and go see someone for real psychiatric help.
😭😭😭
Love your videos bro. What should be the ratio of water and vinegar? and how long should I leave them alone before consuming?
ชอบเรื่องราวที่คุณนำเสนอค่ะและดิฉันก็ชอบทำสวนด้วย ทำออกมาอีกนะค่ะ จะคอยชม
😋never knew what to do with my kolrhabi until now

Do you have bay tree in your garden can I get one please thanks
When I get better I will be able to grow my fruits and vegetables to
I wish you the best to get better soon
Awesome my grandpa grew kohlrabi it was one of my favorite veggies he grew. Ive tried but not much success
Can something other than vinegar be used. I have a visceral reaction to vinegar, even the smell makes me extremely nauseous.
Sir please try the Filipino atsara...
Yeah, I especially love pickled garlic 😊
wow they sounds wonderful, do you have a recipe?
What happens when you ate all the vegetables in the jar ? Do you throw away the vinegar mixture or can you use it again for pickling ? If so, does it need to be reheated, or can you throw the cut vegetables in and start the process again ?
If we only had another 24-hour days that were actually 48 hour days long I could get more done like this garden. 📡👽🇺🇸 RUN!!!
Any recipes with brine? Without vinegar
😋
Patience SM
How long should it be in the jar before it’s actually fermented, and should you crash them up with your hands to help it break down faster?
When will this expire ? Can I use organic raw brown sugar instead of white sugar?
I waited for this video
Do you let the pickling liquid cool first?
come live here in California so u can grow some veggies for me and also pickle the veggies
jhow can i cook this type of jar, vegetebles?
how long do you pickle them for until they are “pickled”?
Do you grow your own peppercorns?
Kohlrabi is one of the only veggies my father liked xD
Hej. Jag tittar på dina inlägg för att du har de vackraste ögon jag sett. Maten är också bra, odlingarna är härliga.
Hi Spicy! Did u know, u can also fermentate vegetables? Its much healthy, we doing it in Poland. Try fermentated cucumber! Its awesome!
What would you say eat for hypertension
Opinel, nice
Yes i no we pickel a lot
is this fermentation? I thought vinegar kills bacteria
Do you need to water-bath ?
How long can they last?
Don’t forget to let the water cool off first!
I wish I was his neighbor 😢😂❤
So how can I make vinegar??
What gut health improvements? Pickling is not the same as fermenting, which actually helps your gut. Pickling just creates dead food essentially as it kills all the benefitial bacteria.
Where do I get one of those magic 🤔cutting boards
Dude make a video speaking italian. I cant manage to recognize verona in your accent and I'm so confused. That would be so cool
Does this smell ? I always find pickled raddish has a serious odor
Love 💖 from india
Sure you can and they are not alien
Yummy, I like all of your instructions...sexy and knowledgeable, very nice🖖🏾🌹
Crushing on this man so hard
Try to add Fenugreek seeds + mustard seeds + and black cumin seeds in you veg pickled I promise it will gonna rock.
why don't you try to plant a banana tree?
I don't get it, why was Charles dowding randomly in the video like that? He didn't ec
Nice pickles but if you knew anything about sugar then you would never use it again Bro. All the very best to you nd yrs
Why boil?
Does this guy show anything with meat?
Is there any food you do not like?
I appreciate your videos but the pickling method you used does nothing to your gut. The hot water you used killed all the good and bad bacteria. The pickles that’s good for your gut requires fermentation and you need to refrigerate it’s not shelf stable. But thank you for sharing keep it up
I feel shy when you look at the camera.
Yeah but won't that make them taste like vinegar? Grody.
