- VFR flight through the Alps from Salzburg Airport (LOWS) to Innsbruck Airport (LOWI). Amazing weather for mountain flying, with clear skies, high pressure and light winds (although I did catch a few bits of turbulence around the higher terrain). Aircraft was De-Iced in the morning but unfortunately I missed a bit on the windscreen (which was actually out of my eye line). Smooth departure heading East initially down the GAFOR routes. A sonic flight down the valleys ending up with a visa approach into Innsbruck Airport. Great trip through the mountains and an amazing experience.
2020 DA42, Registration N42LR, equipped with the Garmin G1000 NXI avionics. Use of Flight Stream, Garmin Satellite Weather and GWX 68 weather radar. Aircraft equipped with Flight Into Known Icing protection.
Use of Foreflight to aid flight planning and for Jeppesen Charts.
Pilot Headset is a Clarity Aloft in-ear headset.

What an excellent video Richard, I can’t imagine better scenery to be flying in!
Wow, amazing shots Richard. Stunning scenery. I remember my family taking a holiday house in the mountains outside Innsbruck and we would sit and watch the aircraft flying below us!
Spectacular scenery Richard, thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing Rich!
Absolutely stunning landscape. Wonderful video!
stunning views - thanks for the ride
Amazingly beautiful! Thanks for a great flight and awesome video. Cheers!
Such a stunning flight, this is one of those places where I hope to fly around before I kick the bucket
It is well worth it! I'm sure some of the local flying schools will be able to take you on a proper tour! 😁👍
@@richardtyrer that’s not a bad shout, but after my solo the other week I hope to do it with a full ppl ;)
Awesome video as always Richard. Beautiful scenery. look forward to the next video
That is epic journey
Amazing... Austria is such a gorgeous place to fly!
I love the Alps! Great share!
The ultimate aviation play ground! Thanks 😁👍
Thank you so much for sharing your flight. My home is near Kitzbühel, but I never had the chance to see the Mountains from the top. Enjoying your flights and flying with you is just so much fun. Keep up the nice videos and happy flying.
Stunning scenery! Reminds me quite a bit of the Cascade mountains in my home state of Washington, USA.
wow what amazing views , and a fantastic way to spend a day , great video !!!!
Epic video mate. Thoroughly enjoybale!!
Stunning- thanks so much for sharing this flight. 🌞

Good to be back! Thanks so much Ross! 😁👍
Fantastic video, my sister works in kaprun. So it is great to see the area from the air. Thanks from South Africa 🇿🇦
Very impressive Richard thanks for the video
Thanks Jeffrey! You are welcome! 😁👍
Awesome scenery Richard. I’m green with envy mate.
Epic!!
Thanks mate for sharing these stunning views with us! That was really amazing, especially to see my favor, Zell am See from above. Cheers to you 😀✋
Epic views
Awesome!!
Thank you so much! 😄👍
When i was stationed if Vilseck/Grafenwoer, DE. I used to make the route down through munchen to garmisch and then into the split as you leave garmisch to Aus.
That whole are is in top 5 best drives, i can't wait to see that whole area from a bird eye point of view. After snowboarding every Point i could, i have an idea....but, there's nothing better than seeing while floating....
Thank you for your content!
Forward, Always Forward
Been 4 months without a video. Missing it :)
A dream to fly into here. My favourite approaches to fly on x plane for sure! Absolutely awesome video Richard.
It is awesome to experience! 😁👍
Awesome…
Love your videos, keep up the great content!
Thanks so much Matt! 😁👍
Great flight well done Richard from
Paul
Love your videos! Reminds me of my flying school days in DA42. I miss the Austro engines!
Great content, keep up the good work.
Happy landings🙂
Thank you so much Karanbir! It's a great aircraft to fly! Safe flying 😁👍
Hi Richard, thank you for yet another brilliant video for all us aviation fanatics. Have you ever thought about doing one explaining your flying career to date? I, for one, would be very interested in understanding what appears to be a varied and interesting flying past eg did you train fixed or rotary first? What ratings you have, etc? Just a thought….. Andy
Richard - Zell Am See is the home of Porsche Family. Porsche Design Studio's were based there in the 1980's where Butzi Porsche who designed the 911 lived and operated. I was fortunate to visit with him with his brother Hans Peter Porsche. The Family owned the Porsche dealership in Salzburg.
Wow, incredible flight Richard! Thanks for sharing. Being US-based I wasn't familiar with GAFOR routes so good to learn about them. Also, funny to see the Micke Intermission ... just to check we are watching the whole thing 😁!
🤘🏼🤘🏼😂
Austria as its best !!! The country of the baby, a flying paradise 🇦🇹🇦🇹🇦🇹 Thanks for sharing !
A country that spawned her Hitler
I partly grew up at LOWI. I hope I can fly there some day (maybe with a safety pilot) when I manage my PPL. Wonderful video
Great Video from my home country 😊
Such a stunning country to fly around as well! 😁👍
Awesome. That is some office you work in.
It is it’s perks! 😄👍
Awesome flight, video and scenery!
I've been into Innsbruck (many!) years ago in a PA23 from UK and weather was good but not as good as this.
Thanks Robert! I was super lucky with the weather (for a change 😂). It was a pleasure flying in!
Skiing in the area I'm always noticing hot air balloons floating around, always something to watch out for!
It’s good they are always pretty big and colourful! 😄👍
@@richardtyrera neighbour back home in Ireland holds both a balloon and a helicopter licence 🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪❤️
Surfs Up Richard!!!!
EPIC
Thanks! 😎👍
Really enjoy your videos. I fly out of LOWI a lot in MSFS2020 such is the stunning scenery in the area. I noticed you weren't using oxygen this time which I thought you would have needed/preferred at 10,000ft? 🤔
Excellent Video, thanks for sharing. Maybe next time when you are taking this route it would be desirable to get somebody knowledgeable on board - you are flying along aside of the highest mountains of Austria. Did you recognize Grossglockner 3797m a.s.l, Grossvenediger, Dreiherrenspitze 3499m and others on this clear and sunny winter day?
Hey Richard..! Your videos are great... Any new ones coming up any time soon? It's been a while. Do you fly the Eurocopter EC135? Would be great to see you do a detailed VLOG of the start up procedure & a flight over some nice scenery of course..! 😊
Was hoping for circle to land 08 ( ultimate approach in my world ) but still awesome to butter it on 26 nevertheless. LOWI is just so amazing.
Unaware of any ski fields south of Patscherkoffel on the Wipptal that would match with your report of chairlifts near Elbogen (at 26:07). Bit closer to the Inntal to the east is location of the crash site & memorial of British Eagle International airlines flight 802/6.
Yo! Awesome flying, love how you explain everything :D
How do you find the Clarity aloft headset? I'm looking into getting a headset for through and after PPL training.. everyone of course is recommending the Bose A20.. thoughts?
Wonderful video, it reminds me of my flights in the Andes. Does the Diamond land well on grass or gravel? I always see asphalt landings.
hope all is well
Always a good day when you post a new video Richard! Something so captivating about your presenting style. Is it rude to ask what the purpose of your flights are? Simply for pleasure to see the world, or is there some sort of commercial purpose to them? Thanks!
Superb explanation as always for us MSFS plums. lol
At least you can get away with some proper low flying on MSFS! IFR one coming up next which should be good to replicate! 😁👍
Living the dream there sir! Do you still fly the rotary stuff or just fixed wing these days?
Superb! No survival suit?
Epic flight, I must find a way to do that.
There's loads of local schools where they will be able to give you a proper tour! 😁👍
@@richardtyrer Are they in Salzburg or Innsbruck Richard? If I could pass my medical I would re instate my license and do it myself……
Look! It's the plane you get when you buy a hanger in GTA!
Beautiful flight. Is the plane still in the US?
Thanks! It is indeed! Departing very soon!
What headset do you use and what do you like about it? Looks nice and might get one myself...
Clarity Aloft. I use them as I am a little tall for the DA42 with normal headsets. I would recommend them, great passive noise reduction. Just order a load of spare ear buds as they can be expensive to ship! 😁👍
oo actually is the restroom in Austria 😉
Long time, no videos! Whats up? :)
Halbe Stunde von Salzburg?
Die Geschwindigkeit ist?
Captain richard..
How much does it cost to operate the Diamond Da42?
Hi Richard. change your camera mode please because the view is not good seems less real...thanks bro. enjoy your flights.
Honestly..... you need to see how the editing works.... I tried this one in normal mode using the Max and it didn't work at all. I ended up having to constantly change the angle and there was too much movement. I do keep conscious of it. 😁👍
@@richardtyrer ok I see bro. thanks a lot for your explanation.
Hi Richard, hope all is well. I have a few questions for you about MEL training in the UK. I'm not on Instagram, but I sent you a connect request on Linkedin (I'm from Kuwait Oil). Thanks!
Come and live in our mountains ! It´s a much better life-style than Brexit Britain.
