I think that “God Save The King/Queen” was a popular melody during the 1800s and spread across Europe and some of other areas, that is why Russia and Thailand used the melody “God Save The King/Queen” in their previous anthems.
It's interesting to see that the culturally and politically leading cantons of Switzerland were the alemanic-speaking ones. I think it's because of Bern and Zürich (and other Protestant&liberal cantons) won the Sunderbund war in 1847. But there is still Geneva...
