Before anybody comments, Yes i know this song has nothing to do with the German revolution. I simply think that the German revolution is the most fitting time in german history to put this song in.

Hi. Am trying to learn German so my question is from a learning standpoint. I thought the double S and the eszett could be interchangeable except in certain situations? Am i wrong or is this one time it cannot be? Either way, the double S is used when one cannot write the eszett, so is it really a spelling mistake?
@@moisesyome4058 I forgot the exact rules, i think its about the vowles lengh: after a long vowel its "ß", after a short vowel you use "ss" (and "s" if you don't hiss the s). "Hass" is the only and right way of spelling, "Haß" is simply wrong. But don't worry, they sound the same and these mistakes are common, even in germany: Did you know that until the spelling reform of 1996, when these rules for eszett were introduced, "Haß" WAS in fact the right way of spelling? So if you catch an older german using ß in words like "daß" instead of "dass" (the a is short, therefore "ss" is right), maybe you can correct them, which would be a very funny situation.
@@Cp.Chaos707Yes, that rule applies, but as a student in a German school who frequently has to write essays in German, I often do use the older forms simply because they take a second less to write (to save time in exams). None of my teachers mark them as wrong, some even continue to use them.
@@moisesyome4058This is indeed a spelling mistake. Germany and Austria implemented a spelling reform in the early 2000s. Before the reform, the correct spelling was "Haß," but now it is "Hass." This change was made to make writing more phonetically consistent. The basic rule is that "ß" is used when the preceding vowel is long, and "ss" is used when the vowel is short.
For example, "Ruß" (soot) is spelled with "ß" because the "u" is a long sound, like in "loot." Conversely, "Kuss" (kiss) is spelled with "ss" because the "u" is short, as in "foot."
Previously, the rule was to use "ß" whenever the vowel was long or at the end of a word. Now, the rule is simply to use "ß" whenever the vowel is long.
Therefore, the correct modern spelling is "Hass." However, people will still understand if you write "Haß," as many older individuals continue to use the old spelling, having never adapted to the new rules.
German revolution in a nutshell, anyone who isn't a royal: "See, See, we have a parliament with represantatives from all over German speaking lands, and they said you get to be king of all German lands. Isn't that awesome?" King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia: "fuk of m8"
If Frederick Wilhelm IV had Accepted the Constitutional Offer as "Emperor of the Germans" It would of Caused a War between the Southern German States, the Austrian Empire, and even Russia as well, all Against Prussia and Maybe the Northern States as Well if Frederick had Agreed.

@@ommsterlitz1805 Must explain why they invaded us so often
@@ommsterlitz1805 Wrong. The German and French states derived from Charlemagne's empire, but they never formed a common culture or even a people. Distinguish carefully!
Even to this day they are indistinguishable by DNA and form the Franco/German haplogroup, what is true is that the eastern part of Germany on the other hand is different with Slavic and Scandinavian influence what were called the Prussians, the war mongering people that took over Germany and caused so much trouble in Europe after Austria and France failed to contain the Prussians from governing the German people. @@paar130
@@ommsterlitz1805 As far as your ethnological remarks are concerned, I will not dispute them because I lack the expertise to do so. From the point of view of cultural studies, which I consider to be decisive in this case, your original assertion that Germans and French form one culture, even one people, remains false. It turns out that I myself am a historian. It is true that the first states of the German and French nations were fragments of the common empire of Charlemagne and it can be argued in many respects that he personally is an integrative figure for both nations. However, I think that the cultural differences between the German and French peoples are obvious, starting with the simplest and most fundamental of all distinguishing features, language. The German-speaking tribes in the Franconian Empire have always formed a more or less cohesive unit and already knew the self-designation „diutisc“ (=> „deutsch“).
The self-identification of the population of the Gallic part of the empire remained mainly Romanic for a long time, but explicitly in contrast to the „barbarian“ Germans of the East Franconian Empire.
All in all, I think that this question, and this can be regarded as a consensus within modern research, is decided from a cultural and not an ethnic, genetic point of view - of course, some of the Germans, such as the Bavarians, were originally a Celtic tribe, whereas the Western Franks, i.e. the ruling class in Gaul as well, were Germanic, but both quickly integrated themselves into the respective cultural group.
A lot of the people commenting 'Omg, this is so beautiful' would probably feel much different about this song if they spoke German and understood just how choppy the localization is (and tends to be throughout the entirety of the German version Les Misérables.)
It's a little bit like a mashup of the Deutschlandlied, la Marseillelaise and the Internationale.
Whats wrong with the localization of the song?
What do you mean?

It was supposed to roughly follow the borders of the Holy Roman Empire with Austria, parts of Italy, and Pomerania. The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Burgund, and Northern Italy are missing though due to being made independent or being annexed by France. I'm the type of German who would follow the Kaiser and fight for the German monarchy and for the Houses of Habsburg and Hohenzollern. I wonder what our nation woud be like if we and so many others didn't lose or abolish our Monarchy. People say we have freedom in today's world, but it's a very fragile freedom. If we aren't careful, it could return to the days where you say something wrong, then you lose your head. Remember your freedom and fight for it and always speak up for your beliefs, no matter how outdated or unwelcome they may be in this dark world. But all I know is that even though our Kaiser is gone and no German alive lives to remember the Kaiser, my heart remains loyal to the Holy Roman Empire and to the German Empire.
