This does not in any way demean or lessen the atrocity that is that story but if we're going to spread awareness about these things, it helps to be as accurate as possible about them.
@@antonyduhamel1166 Ah, of course, completely forgot about that detail. Yes, somehow nearly all proper news outlets got the information we had sung the anthem of France instead of this song. You want to say "Long live globalization and Soros" right? :D
So I hate to be that guy, and I am by no means calling FAKE NEWS or anything, but the linked story says they were singing Le Marseillaise (the national anthem of France) not Do You Hear The People Sing from Les Miserables.
Thing is we were initially planning on singing that, but in the end there weren't quite enough of students with us who studied the language itself.
And since the entire uni knows English pretty well, we decided to go with this as an alternative, which is just as fitting and powerful imo.
Pray for Myanmar people. Be Careful and Never Give up. From a Hong Kong People
For Burma, Hong Kong, Belarus, the anti-Trump Fight Against Fascism...there is a rising tide of tyranny in the world today, to quote Hugo's own words from the novel: *As there is always more wretchedness below than there is brotherhood above, all was given away, so to speak, before it was received. Democracy is dying now. Politicians are hungry for power and wealth. We, people are starving to death. We put trust on you but this is what you(Politicians) give us. People, stand up for which is right. Politicians are afraid of people's power. Let us take back what belongs to us for democracy is freedom. Freedom of speech, knowledge, truth,
Totally agreed. Here in Korea, democracy, especially free of speech is being attacked by the guys who said they fought and will fight for free of speech ad democracy. Recently our president even sued one student for putting up wallposters criticizes him
God gives you these rights, America just said so and now it’s our duty to do something about it… but who the f am I right? I ain’t gonna do anything.
Man will suffer wrongs only as long as wrongs are sufferable and all that.
This song makes me so happy? I've always liked it, but I think the selling moment for me was being surround by all my friends in theater, singing all together as loud as we could. It genuinely felt like we were getting ready for a revolution.
Flurffie I'd join a revolution against the Left and all that want to destroy America.
I could say the same, but replace "the left" with "the political establishment"
This is adorable
I’d LEAD a revolution against the shitty education system. No, really, imagine students, sick of the Board of Education’s bullshit, march through the halls, singing this, Las Marseillaise, and WJCMH. Trust me, already planning this.
I have seen the state of both American political parties.
They have always been at each other’s throats for ages, but with the election controversy leading to and resulting in the assault on the US Capitol.. it’s safe to say that BOTH the Democrat and Republican parties should disband one way or another regardless of the unlikely odds.

On Aug 10, 5 young activists from Myanmar jumped from a 5 story building to avoid the junta's arrest. All of them are sumed to pass away. This song really make me cry like a child. And I feel how much we are hungry for the freedom. Really, the blood of the martrys are really watering the meadows of Myanmar.
I hope the people can choose what is best, the government is abusing its power I get you I have a couple of buddies living a harsh life there in Myanmar

It *is* literally about the French Revolution. Which was like... 200 years ago.
@@minimalgrammar1276 More like 150 as it's about a revolt after napoleon was defeated. I dont remember the names or the story in full context anymore but thats how it went more. or less.
One of the french generals who served under napoleon, a well known loyalist with great reputation passed away and during his funeral there was a sudden civil unrest which caused a local paris revolution which didnt expand beyond it. It was also quickly put down
@@budowniczypylonow7026 Would be in terribly bad taste of hugo if it was about the revolution given the revolution took an unfair system of weak despotism by a king who badly wanted to be liked by the public who already hated him and replaced it with the worst tyranny in western europe before a military emperor took power and ruled with a secret police.
Just going to casually mention how happily they sang "The blood of the martyrs will water the meadows of France!"
It simply means that they are willing to die as martyrs.
Several million Frenchmen sing that regularly as part of their national anthem, nothing weird here.
T Mack I believe the idea is that those who die give their lives do their comrades can have a better future. They're happy because they know that those who die won't die in vain.
Heroes in yellow shirts, let us join in a revolution against taxes to the elite.

Wow, it's such an all powerful song. Patriots all over the world hear this and are ready to become another Paul Revere in America or William Wallace in Scotland. These are hard times for us all, but this song will lift up even those who are demoralized and broken. It's an amazingly spirited song. Makes one want to join the fight and carry on, against even overwhelming odds.

In our struggle we fight not for ourselves, but for our children, and for our children's children, and for all who will inherit this world from us. When tomorrow comes, let them remember us fondly.

I actually was listening to this in my British liteture class and I was kinda singing it under my breath and my good friend heard and joined in and our English teacher smiled and told us how this is one of his favorite books and musicals. It was nice to see him enjoy it.

Schools: we're thinking of going to year round school.
Highschools around the country: do you hear the students sing? Singing the song of angry kids? It is the cries of the students who will not be held again. When the beating of your heart echoes the scratching of the pen. We know, deep down, the students are 'bout to win!
Shoulda been the clicking of the pen, but it's still beautiful🤠
gillian rogers This works so well! And I’m actually “rewriting” Les Miserables to fit a modern High School. When you think about it, this story actually fits well. Interesting how universal this story/musical is. It can fit anywhere and any place. It’s on Wattpad in case any of y’all want to see it. I’m working on Lovely Ladies right now (it’s taking longer than expected because of school and because I’m in my school’s production of Les Miserables)
