      Andy Griffith is a wonderful tv show. We really enjoyed going on a tour of Mt. Airy in a squad car. We also enjoy watching Andy Griffith. We tend to watch a lot of the older shows from years gone by. Glad you enjoyed the video. God Bless.

    What a cool tour! I remember watching the Andy Griffith reruns as a child with my family. Such a good show. I loved hearing about all the references Andy put in the show about his home town. We need to visit Mt. Airy some day. Thanks for sharing this tour with us!

      We enjoyed hearing all the Andy stories and about the different references he put in the show. I love knowing the "inside" story to things. Definitely put Mt. Airy on your list. It will be worth the trip! Thanks for watching!

    Andy retired to Manteo, NC (similar to Mayberry), a very nice small town on the Outer Banks where I lived for a few summers. I didn't see him around town, but I heard he was quite a recluse. I haven't been to Mt. Airy yet, but my Uncle and Cousin went there and showed me their pictures, everything looked very cool. It was nice to hear about it during our Christmas visit. I was shocked to learn that it wasn't filmed there. Wow, that mural is beautiful!

    • @teresareed5597
      @teresareed5597 Před 21 dnem

      I remember reading that Andy was such a recluse he left instructions that upon his death his remains were to be taken to a small, uninhabited island off the Outer Banks he had purchased. He was buried early the next day after his death with no funeral, no mourners, definitely no pictures. He’d left word there was never to be access to the island by anyone after his burial but I have no idea if they’re still able to enforce that.

    • @Delta9Brian
      @Delta9Brian Před 21 dnem +1

      @@teresareed5597 I believe I remember living in Maryland when he passed away, don't remember details of his wish from back then since I wasn't nearby. But it wouldn't shock me.

    • @vafunseekers
      @vafunseekers  Před 21 dnem

      You would definitely enjoy visiting Mt. Airy. Such a nice town and fun to see Andy's hometown and hear different stories about him. It's definitely like stepping back in time.
      I knew that Andy retried to Manteo. What shocked me the most is that he was buried within 4 to 5 hours of his death. It would be nice if fans were allowed to show their respects to Andy, instead of it being a private gravesite. Hope you get to Mt. Airy soon!

    • @vafunseekers
      @vafunseekers  Před 21 dnem

      According to what I read he was buried within 4 or 5 hours after his death. I do think someone's final wishes should be respected. However, it would be nice to be able to pay respect to Andy. It just seems to me that a gravesite at Mt. Airy would have been a great final resting place. But this wasn't his wishes and that definitely has to be respected. He brought so much laughter and entertainment into so many lives and continues to do so. Just love the combination of Andy and Don Knotts. True clean and classic tv.

    • @Delta9Brian
      @Delta9Brian Před 21 dnem

      @@vafunseekers yes same with me. Watching reruns with family through the years. And I believe he grew to love Manteo over the years, he performed in the Lost Colony play there many times,
      And they'd still use a recording of his voice for the introduction. I've seen that play a couple times 20 years ago.

    Pretty cool tour in a squad car, Cindy you and Carly got to sit in the police car, and David was getting frisked up against the car lol. Your guide was very knowlegable and informative. They have a statue of Don Knott's in Morgantown WV. His hometown . That's a good price to have a tour for the entire car. My favorite episode was when Barney bought a car from little old lady who was part of a criminal ring selling broken down cars.I watched this show every day before dinner at the nursing home when I was rehabing for my surgery to my back ! My favorite character on the show was Howard Sprague, the city clerk. Times were so simple back then, when I grew up my childhood was a lot like opies, except my town was a little bigger. Good job, enjoyed the tour. God Bless 🇺🇸

      @vafunseekers  Před 20 dny

      Times were definitely simpler then. Glad that you had a similar childhood. David and I had a childhood in a small community but was definitely different that this. However we didn't have all the technology that the kids have today, which has made growing up so much harder.
      I remember the episode you are talking about. Loved that episode too. I think it's unique that Howard Sprague is your favorite character on the show.
      God Bless!

    Wow what an informative tour! Yall got a good tour guide. Loved his Adam West & Barney impersonations! This is the first vlog I've seen of the car tour. Didn't realize it was that long of a tour? Neat to learn things from the guide that I've never heard before.

    • @vafunseekers
      @vafunseekers  Před 20 dny +1

      Our tour guide was awesome! This is the second time we went on one of these tours. The first time we went the tour guide wasn't comfortable with the videoing. So this time I actually called ahead and asked if there was someone who is comfortable with videoing. So that is how we ended up with Mark. You can tell how much he enjoys doing this. Both of the tours we went on were excellent. We got there early for our tour and Mark was out doing a tour. So we sit on the porch of Wally's Service Station talking with some of the other tour guides as they were coming and going. Fun time!
      I think the tours are typically about 35 to 40 minutes. Our tour was a little longer than that. Loved hearing all the different stories and information.

    Caught this six minutes after going live. Second comment, 16th "like", and 52nd view. The Ford "Police Special" cars back then were from the "Custom" series. Bottom of the line. The Galaxie was the midrange and Galaxie 500 was the top of the line until the LTD came along. The radio equipment in the sheriff's office on the show was an Ameco TX-6X-62 six and two meter AM and CW (Moses Code) transmitter, an Electro-Voice desk mic, and a Hallicrafters ham radio shortwave receiver. The tall radio antenna used on the cars is from the use of "low-band" VHF which seemed to be preferred in that era Because of cost and equipment, you'll still see it used in some places. Like Virginia, which also uses it for those reasons and because of topography. Drive I-81 sometime and you'll see what I mean! Problem with low-band VHF is interference from other suers -sometimes thousands of miles away- because of atmospheric phenomena. This was an interesting show. God Bless!
