  • A thematic analysis of the first Kingdom Hearts game. I think it's understated how much of a great foundation this game was to the series and how future games remain pretty consistent with the themes of the first game. I hope you all enjoy it!

    It's refreshing to see someone who really understands the themes of the first game. Too often I see it overlooked as typical shounen friendship bs when it's actually much broader and executed with much more subtlety. The first KH will always be the best imo in terms of pure storyline.

      Glad you appreciate the video and the game! One of the biggest reasons I made this video (and more soon hopefully) is because of the frequent dismissive discourse surrounding the game or people just throwing the series under the bus that I've heard over the years. So I'm glad I could connect to you with that sentiment, definitely more to KH than a lot give it credit for.

      Ther is still Lots of that in later Titels like Soras Pain.
      These ar things Nomura wantet since the first game.
      Kairi is also the girl who refuses to grow up. She never wantet to leave the Islands but wantet to Lose Sora and Riku even less. That is shown better innthe Japanese OG.

    • @deaj8450
      @deaj8450 Před 10 měsíci

      @indedgames4359 I completely disagree with your assessment of Kairi. Also honestly I pretend the series stopped existing after the ending of 2. Nomura, or whoever is actually writing this garbage, turned the series into a flaming dumpster imo. 358/2 has one of my least favorite characters in the series with Xion, BBS is the story of 3 literal gullible idiots who beat Xehanort but then lose to him anyway in the cutscene, DDD decided to ruin the organization and plot of KH 2, KH 3 is just a complete cluster fuck and they try to redeem the most evil dude in the entire series at the end.
      Like I'm happy that you can find the moments you love and enjoy the later games, but I can't. I play the English dub just like how if I watch anime I'll watch English instead of Japanese (if the dub isn't total trash). I'm not a fan of Japanese voices because I can't connect their emotions and acting abilities to the script like I can with English. English dubs are far more emotionally resonant for me because of that.
      Yu yu Hakusho, DBZ, Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, Death Note, Black Lagoon, Ghost Stories, no materr the anime I usually find myself liking the English dub more. The one exception to this was Hajime No Ippo, which has a fucking terrible English dub

    This was such a good take on KH1 and Ansem as a whole. Really gave the impact of him admitting his wrongs and accepting when it's time to move on in KH3 more oomph.

    • @gearvanguard
      @gearvanguard  Před rokem +5

      Thank you!! I absolutely adored what with they did with Ansem. I remember starting to think he was a meme after all his reappearances and wondered what purpose he had left in the series, only be be blown away with what they did in KH3. It wasn't long, but man did it hit.

    • @littlebigb5370
      @littlebigb5370 Před rokem +6

      @AfterHoursGear I admit, before this his closing speech was a little underwhelming, at least compared to Xemnas' speech regarding his weakness to handle the emotions, pain, and guilt of having a heart and fading away at the admittance that the ability to handle such pain and carry on (the "hurt" Sora's data self had to accept) took strength he couldn't comprehend.
      But this video made me realize that if Xemnas is the inability to face the guilt of his past, then Ansem is the inability to escape the obsession of his; Sora and Riku, in turn, gave them both closure in their faults.
      And Young Xehanort is the prime candidate of someone so certain and arrogant of his future that he grows into someone who becomes riddled with an obsession of being correct and unable to handle any guilt he holds. Motivated by Master Xehanort, almost metaphorical of believing the ends are either justified by the means or uncontrollable by a fate that can justify his actions. Planning for events at the end of his life, without living his life between those two points.
      Really all three of them show just how antithetical they are from Sora, and how Xehanort as a whole is the worst of all 3 of them combined.

      @littlebigb5370 You've left me completely speechless. I truly mean it when I say this but this is the most wonderfully-written thing I've read in relation to Kingdom Hearts. You made such a beautiful connection that goes beyond just Ansem and put it eloquently, I thank you for helping me appreciate the series more. Bravo, I would pin this in a heartbeat if I could 💜

      @@gearvanguardnomura is a narative Genius and has plotet outvö the framework of the series when he made kh 2. When kh 1 was announced kh 2 and CoM existet as Concepts already kh 2 mostlikely wss even writen.
      In 2004 he has putlined a Potentiel final scene. Mind you things since then changed. In KH 3 Interviews Nonura sayed that as he wrote the Scenarios ideas he had startet to change slightly.
      KH isnt wroten as he goes along. Its more like most szorys with atleast a rouge plan and room for Innovation.
      Thats why he is vage in the Japanese Script.
      If you conpare the English Script creats plotholes becaus of Mistranslation.
      Kairos Arc is lost in english going from the Girl that doesnt want thibgs to change to the girl in kh 3 Willing to change. Her next steps ar to stop doing thibgs like Sora and Riku but to Do it her way

    This video is so vastly underrated it's INSANE to me. Your understanding of the series themes through the characters even had 'me' surprised, due to how you angled some of the insights just right. Example: That bit about the wishes made at Destiny Islands coming true in ways they never wanted it.
    Automatically subbed and will become a supporter of more of your work. Hope to see plenty more Kingdom Hearts content from you.

      After spending some time away from KH3 discourse which left me feeling a bit unhappy at the time, and also gaining more appreciation for other games/anime, I've been meaning to revisit KH as a whole, and I was very pleasantly surprised. So I'm very glad that you enjoyed it, thank you again.

      Thank you, I'm very happy to hear that you liked it! I'll definitely be talking about Kingdom Hearts more, each game might not get its own video (I might cover Re:Coded, DDD and KH3 in one video for example) but covering the dark seeker saga is the goal right now. As for the mobile games, so much has been setup in those stories that I'd probably find myself lost thematically, at least at this moment (enjoyment wise I loved it). It's likely that I'll wait for a few more games to see for sure where it's going cause looking at the series retroactively helped a lot even for this video. But if something pops up in my head when I rewatch the story I'll definitely give it a shot sooner rather then later. Thank you again for your comment, it means a lot.
