      Hi Fran Jones,
      As explained in the video, if hair has not grown in an area for less than 5 years, they may be dormant, and the follicles can still be stimulated for growth. If an area has not grown hair for more than 5 years, the follicle is likely dead. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      I advise you have the cause diagnosed properly with a physical examination as pattern hair loss is gradual hair thinning that occurs over years, and not bald spots that happen in just two months. That said, sudden causes of hair loss are usually treatable, but diagnosis of the cause is needed first. I hope this helps you.

    1. Can the follicles damaged by Lazer Hair Removal repair themselves back to their healthy form(even if they take long time) ?
    2. Two chemicals/enzymes are know to 'weaken' hair 'roots' aka 'follicles'. Can the follicles damaged by these two enzymes be repaired ?
    Enzymes :-
    Papain - Natural hair retardant plant enzyme derived from papayas
    Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract - Contains lycorine, a natural hair growth inhibitor

    Question: sometimes I’ll have an itch on my scalp, and I’ll feel a little bump where it itches. It might get caught in my fingernail, and it looks like a little bulbous thing that feels like grain of salt or something. Sometimes with hair attached to it. If that came out of my head, does that mean that that hair is gone for good?

    I appreciate you sharing so much information. You stated that generally as long as a follicle has not gone past 5 years without producing hair it is dead. Are there factors that could cause the follicles to die before the 5 year mark? I have lost hair over the last 2 1/2 years, so I was curious what the likelihood is that your PRP treatment could stimulate those follicles to produce hair again?

      Hi gsr852,
      It's not clear if you have experienced increased hair shedding over the last 2.5 years, which is usually temporary; or if you are experiencing progressive hair thinning, which is likely pattern hair loss. I would have to confirm what you have before recommending treatment. Shed hair does grow back without medical treatment, but if it grow back thinner, then treatment is needed. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      @@AmiyaPrasadMD Thank you for your response. I was diagnosed with alopecia areata in 2013. Over the past 2 1/2 years, the cortisone shots have not helped, and when I asked my dermatologist at my last appointment if he felt any of the hair loss was associated with MPB he said no. 2. Dead or dormant hair follicles cannot be identified by a physical examination, but generally if an area of scalp has been smooth bald for over 5 years, the follicles are likely dead, but if it's been under 5 years, the follicles may be dormant
      3. DHT-sensitivity is not the only factor in male pattern hair loss, as you can see in this video where we get thicker hair growth and more scalp coverage in men who were already on a DHT-blocker like finasteride for years prior to receiving our treatment - czcams.com/video/4YowPNRsv6I/video.html

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi@@Axxxel_in_Harlem,
      1. DHT-sensitivity is a major factor of male pattern hair loss, but it's not the only factor as seen in the video I sent you. Even if you block DHT-formation with the most effective DHT-blocking drugs like finasteride or dutasteride, they only slow hair thinning, and don't stop it completely. Other pattern hair loss factors include limited growth cycles, and the fact that it's a genetic condition hardwired into the DNA.
      2. Pattern hair loss is a genetic condition, not nutritional, or environmental. Pattern hair loss cannot be cured or completely stopped, but it can be managed to achieve as much hair thickness and scalp coverage as possible. Also see answer above.
      3. The cost of the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment varies with the extent of treatment needed. Cost of the treatment plan also includes the second booster treatment, if needed in advanced hair loss cases, as well regular follow ups to monitor your progress, either in our offices or through Skype, FaceTime or email. At its full cost, TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is priced at about half of a single FUT hair transplant, or about a third of an FUE transplant performed in the US. You can contact our offices or our websites for a price range. Our offices are located in the US in Manhattan, New York City which you can call at (212) 265-8877; Garden City, Long Island at (516) 742-4636; or Vienna, Virginia at (703) 356-1336. @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi@@Axxxel_in_Harlem,
      1. No, because PRP is not even our main ingredient. The main ingredient is extracellular matrix by ACell. You can refer to these videos about how our treatment is different from PRP alone, and other ACell+PRP treatments (which we did first, and longer than anyone else):
      czcams.com/video/vZAGaAssewY/video.html
      czcams.com/video/9hZRv2NQ7SM/video.html
      2. The benefits of the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment lasts 3-5 years or more, and you may need finasteride along with it depending on your level of DHT-sensitivity. Keep in mind that pattern hair loss can't be cured, but it can be managed to maximize hair thickness and scalp coverage. Managing pattern hair loss means active management. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@caesarsblues,
      The term hair fall can be confusing because pattern hair loss is hair thinning, and hair shedding which is more closely related to "falling" is normal, and the hair grows back. It hasn't been determined yet if you have thinning hair, or hair shedding. Shed hair grows back without treatment, but pattern hair loss is when shed hair grows back thinner, and/or there is a delay in regrowth. If a hair follicle is still viable, and hasn't grown hair for less than 5 years, then growth can be stimulated with the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Sorry to hear about your problems. While more than normal hair shedding can be caused by severe stress, it is usually a temporary condition, so shed hair does grow back without medical treatment as the stress resolves. However, hair thinning is most often caused by genetic pattern hair loss, which can occur at the same time telogen effluvium (stress-related hair shedding). An examination is needed to determine if you also have genetic pattern hair loss.

      Sorry to hear about your problem. Male pattern hair loss can initially concentrate at the crown, and hairline, with less noticeable thinning in the mid scalp. There can be different patterns of thinning in men, and it is possible that there less aggressive thinning happening in the mid scalp as well, which can be confirmed with a scalp microscopy.
      Finasteride is primarily for slowing hair thinning; and minoxidil is doesn't treat hair thinning at all, as it appears to delay natural hair shedding for the appearance of fullness. As you have a relatively young onset of pattern hair loss, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive so you can also benefit from a DHT blocker to slow hair thinning, and a treatment like Hair Regeneration to thicken thinning hair and stimulate hair growth. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi! Very informative video doctor! I’ve read somewhere online and been told by a similar clinic to yours here in sweden that hair follicules aren’t dead, they’re still active but rather not producing any hair anymore. Hence the term ”dormant” comes in to place. I struggle to find real answers to this online but i cant come to a conclusion. What are your thaughts on this?

      Hi @fillebubben,
      The differences between dormant and dead hair follicles are already discussed in this video, so I'm not sure what you mean. Generally, dormant hair follicles have not grown hair for less than 5 years, and can be treated to grow hair again, as we do with our treatment. Hair follicles that have not grown hair for more than 5 years are likely dead, and can't be revived. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hello doctor, I am male 23 years old and now my baldness level is NW 3-4. I try to use minoxidil 3% + 0.25% triamcinolone + 0.025% tretinoin during 2015-early 2016 and finasteride 1mg every 2 days,but i got weight gain 3 kg in 2 weeks and brain fog. In March 2017,i have been tried 5% minoxidil but i even worse for me that i gain weight more than 6kg in 3 weeks and sclap irritation. Now,i trying to use dermaroller 0.5 mm 2 times/week and 2% ketoconazole shampoo everyday and rosemary oil with dermaroller. After i use it,the hair shedding is decline maybe around 10-20 perday. But no sign for thicker hair in my crown and vertex area.

      Hi Jhanna Rezqi,
      Sorry to hear that, but none of the treatments you mentioned will thicken your hair. You need to take finasteride daily for it to work properly, but it doesn't thicken hair much, and is more to slow hair thinning. Minoxidil doesn't thicken hair, but it keeps your thinning hair on your head longer. Look into the Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video if you are interested in thickening thinning hair. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi Sidhartha Barman,
      I don't advise hair transplants for diffuse hair thinning as you still have viable hair follicles, even if they are growing thinning hair. A transplant too close to native hair can permanently damage those follicles, which transplant surgeons justify because they are thinning anyway, but we can thicken and save thinning hair with our treatment. Also, thinning native hairs are more numerous than even multiple transplants can achieve, so thickening hair non-surgically can get your more scalp coverage than a transplant. You can refer to these more recent videos about how transplantation can cause more hair loss, and our non-surgical hair transplant alternative:

      If hair has not grown in an area of scalp for less than 5 years, the hair follicle may be dormant, and can still grow hair if stimulated for growth. And I'm unaware of it (it is said that it must be used for life long and I don't know about all such things) I blindly trusted her and used it. After discontinuing it I had severe hair loss and im going bald wherever I used it(other areas are healthy). I'm really stressed and getting suicidal thoughts (being a girl and going bald is not easy and it's painful to receive comments from our society). My last biopsy said that my hair pores have been closed. Can I regrow my hair. R else can I go for hair transplant?

      Hi Menaga kanakaraj,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily. Since minoxidil delays the hair shedding cycle, and prolongs the hair growth cycle, if you stop using it, you will likely have a significant hair shed.
      Biopsies can be used to diagnose for female pattern hair loss, but cannot reveal that hair follicles are dead because follicles are underneath the scalp skin, and follicles that are not growing hair can be dormant and still can be stimulated for hair growth. You can refer to these videos on how we can treat female pattern hair loss without minoxidil or spironolactone, why hair transplants are generally not advised for diffuse female pattern hair loss, and the causes and treatments for female pattern hair loss:

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Suatt38,
      Possibly, but finasteride should only be used after proper examination by a doctor because it's a prescription medication.
      The chances of side effects from finasteride are pretty rare at about 2% of users having them. Also, there are more common causes of erectile dysfunction, which also affect men who are not on finasteride, including stress, excessive alcohol intake, smoking, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet, and aging. Often, men on finasteride overlook their lifestyle choices if they encounter problems, but a healthier lifestyle needs to be considered as well. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi Hector Gomez,
      Wearing a beanie or any hat will not cause hair thinning or baldness. A proper examination is needed to determine if you have male pattern hair loss, where hair progressively thins due to a genetic scalp sensitivity to the hormone DHT. If you have male pattern hair loss starting in your 20s or younger, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, and need a DHT-blocker like finasteride to control it, and slow hair thinning. The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate growth from dormant hair follicles, but it cannot block DHT-formation. While it is difficult right now, you can see local doctor for a proper diagnosis. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi Maher Adil,
      Saw palmetto, if it works, is not a reliable DHT-blocker as it is a supplement, and supplements don't have consistent amounts of active ingredients because they are not regulated like drugs. Drugs like finasteride are more reliable DHT-blockers as they have a consistent amount of the drug in each pill. You can refer to these videos about the importance of finasteride in treating male pattern hair loss, the limits of finasteride alone as a hair loss treatment, and how we can go beyond just finasteride alone in thickening thinning hair and stimulating hair growth from dormant hair follicles:

And there was one area in particular that didn’t have much hair. I’m very worried, I’ve tried looking at CZcams videos for the past 5 days worrying. I’m not a stressful person but thinking about losing my hair makes me stressed out. I stoped washing aggressively, started eating more nuts, fruits, eggs, avocado etc. Idk what’s wrong I’m really worried. What can I do? Or if I’m doing anything right, when can I start seeing results? Since I still see so much hair falling from my head when I take a shower.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi Kenneth Videos901,
      Male pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair shedding. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when the shed hair grows back thinner, and there is a delay in regrowth. The cause of hair shedding needs to be diagnosed by an experienced doctor in a scalp examination. The most common cause of temporary hair shedding is severe stress, which is called telogen effluvium, but this usually doesn't require medication for the shed hair to eventually grow back. Hi Darrian Watson,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Follicles that are thinning due to pattern hair loss can be treated so they grow thicker, but the progression of scarring on your scalp is unpredictable, so it's not clear how long the results will last until progressive scarring affects it. Hi kartofobelachka,
      I don't believe any similar treatments are available in Europe, as we do have many patients from across the continent coming to the US for treatment (under normal travel conditions). Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, FaceTime, or email follow up.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety

      Hi Michael Veras,
      It does sound like pattern hair loss with a slower progression. We can thicken thinning hair, but I don't use PRP alone. I don’t administer PRP alone for hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. Also, the number of sessions needed does vary, and the longevity of results is unpredictable. TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration is a PRP combination treatment where PRP is the activator of the main ingredient extracellular matrix by ACell. TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration is a one-time treatment for most patients, and can last up to 5 years and beyond, depending on the aggressiveness of the hair loss pattern. You don't need repeat injections periodically, and many older TrichoStem™Hair Regeneration patients don’t use maintenance drugs like finasteride, but finasteride is a must for our younger male patients with very early and aggressive hair loss due to high DHT-sensitivity as TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration is not a DHT-blocker. PRP injections for hair loss are needed indefinitely. Some TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration patients with advanced hair loss get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first which we call the booster, but this is already included in the cost of the treatment plan, so you don’t pay extra for it. TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil completely, or be weaned off it to prevent a sudden hair shed. There is no way to tell by examining the scalp as follicles are below the skin. However, if hair has not grown for less than 5 years, the follicles may be dormant, and can still be stimulated for hair growth. If hair has not grown in area that is smooth bald for over 5 years, the follicle is likely dead. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Cheran Karthik,
      Sorry to hear about your problem, but you need this physically examined properly to determine the cause of your hair loss. Male pattern hair loss is hair thinning, not shedding, and it doesn't normally start at 16. Also, temporary shedding due to stress doesn't normally last 2 years, and shed hair doesn't mean your follicles are dead as the hair does grow back. You need a proper examination to diagnose this, so I suggest you see a local doctor as I can't give you a diagnosis based on your description alone. I hope this helps you.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Amrita Chatterjee,
      It depends on whether or not your hair was once thick, or is genetically thin. If it became thin due to progressive pattern hair loss, it can be treated so hair is thicker, which needs to be done with medical treatment and not over-the-counter products. However, if it was never thick to begin with, then treatment can't change the characteristics of your hair. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety

      Hi@@_aryannegi,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. You do need a proper diagnosis about the cause of your hair loss first. However, if you are confirmed to have male pattern hair loss, you cannot get the density you had when you were younger. Male pattern hair loss is a genetic condition hardwired into the DNA, so it's managed, not cured. We can get you the maximum coverage, and for as long as your genetics would allow, but it can't be cured. 14 is very young age to start onset of hair loss, so a physical examination by an experienced doctor is needed. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety

      Hi NM K,
      Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily. Since minoxidil delays the hair shedding cycle, and prolongs the hair growth cycle, if you stop using it, you will likely have a significant hair shed.
      Finasteride is more beneficial than minoxidil as it can slow down and stabilize hair thinning, and it can be used long-term more predictably. If you have male pattern hair loss starting in your 20s or younger, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, so you need a DHT-blocker like finasteride. DHT-blockers like finasteride are prescription medications, so you need to see a doctor for a proper examination and diagnosis, then be issued a prescription for finasteride. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Luffy Monkey,
      If someone has too many dead hair follicles, even surgery won't achieve the type of density you are asking about, because there aren't enough available grafts to cover the whole head, and grafted hair cannot be spaced as close together as natural hair. So, to answer your question, the only way to achieve that type of scalp coverage is with a hairpiece or wig. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      It's important to differentiate hair shedding from pattern hair loss, because the cause of your "hair loss" is not clear. Pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair shedding. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when the shed hair grows back thinner, and there is a delay in regrowth. Hi @anokhi223,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Genetic pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not bald patches, or a complete stoppage of hair growth. I suggest you see a local dermatologist to examine your scalp to diagnose the cause of your hair loss, which may be due to an autoimmune disorder. You can refer to this video about different types of alopecia - czcams.com/video/17pXuj82eQA/video.html

    Sir I have had trichotillomania for around 10 years. I used to pull most of my hairs from left temple region of the scalp. Hair density there is now very sparse.I have stopped pulling my hairs over almost 2 years now. But hairs not growing back in that area. Is there anything I can do to get my lost precious hairs back.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Bhawna Dahiya,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Trichotillomania over a long period of time can cause permanent damage to hair follicles from the constant trauma of pulling and tension. A physical examination is needed to determine what can be done for you as the extent of damage needs to be assessed before I can recommend any treatment for you. I hope this helps you.

      It's good you are embracing it, but as explained in the video, dormant hair follicles which have not grown hair in less than 5 years can be still be stimulated for hair growth. Hair follicles that have not grown hair for more than 5 years are likely dead. I hope this clarifies things for you.

It is now a year and half past the surgery, is it safe to go for hair transplant and will it be successful, the scar is almost 3 inches. All doctors whom we have consulted have said there is no non surgical method to grow hair on the scar. Pls advise

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety

      Hi Nikesh Majithia,
      While hair can be transplanted to a scar, for past neurosurgery patients, I suggest you consult your wife's neurosurgeon. Hair transplantation into neurosurgery scars can potentially cause fluid collection in the transplant areas, so there has to be close coordination with the neurosurgeon, and transplant surgeon before recommending a hair transplant. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 5 lety

      Hi Elijah Tanner,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Long-term trichotillomania may have permanently damaged the hair follicles from constant tension and pulling. Generally, if hair has not grown in a specific area for more than 5 years, the hair follicles are likely dead. If the hair follicles are already dead, then the only option is hair transplantation. If it has been less than 5 years, there is a chance the hair follicles are still viable. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    I need help. I'm 15 and I have really thick brown hair and no male pattern baldness in my family but since lately i've noticed some dandruff in my hairline and i had to scratch that spot and i made a wound on that spot. In the middle of my hairline i've had a pimple and i also scratched it and now my hairline looks uneven. My question is how long until that hair grows back and what can i do to make that hair grow faster?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety

      Hi Lukoil 49,
      It is best to have your dandruff problem treated, and try not to traumatize your scalp so much that hair growth is affected. Hair follicles go in a resting phase at different times, so it's hard to say how long it will take your hair to grow back. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Ayush Jain,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I generally don't recommend dermarolling because it's not an effective hair loss treatment, and people doing it at home are not trained to microneedle properly, or give enough time between sessions for healing. If you are worried about it, I suggest you stop doing it. You can refer to these videos about why microneedling is not effective as a hair loss treatment, and how the treatment is often overdone:

      If you haven't already, you should try to have your hormone levels stabilized first to see if hair growth improves. Other treatments like TrichoStem Hair Regeneration for regrowth can be considered if you have hormone levels stabilized first, then have an examination for possible female pattern hair loss. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Jean Baro,
      We don't have affiliated clinics, but we do have patients from Brazil coming to the US for treatment.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety

      Hi Log&trans world,
      Pattern hair loss is gradual hair thinning, which is a genetic condition, and it cannot be caused by a hard hairbrush. Hair shedding is normal, and hair grows back after shedding. Pattern hair loss happens when the shed hair grows back thinner, and/or there is a delay in regrowth. A proper examination is needed to confirm if you have pattern hair loss, before treatment is recommended. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      I would need to examine your hairline before determining that a hair transplant is the only option for you, especially if there is still thinning hair present that are not so visible. Hi Jonathan Tricoli,
      Sorry to hear that. If you have male pattern hair loss starting in your 20s or younger, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, and need a DHT-blocker like finasteride to control it, and slow hair thinning. Not sure if you have used a DHT-blocker previously.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi varsha murukan,
      You haven't been confirmed to have pattern hair loss, and shed hair doesn't mean the roots come out. Male pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, not hair shedding. It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when the shed hair grows back thinner, and there is a delay in regrowth. If you have pattern hair loss, it is genetic, and hardwired into your DNA, so it can't be cured, but with medical treatment it can be managed so you can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate hair growth so you have as much hair as possible, for as long as possible. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Aditi Srivastava,
      Have you seen a doctor about pattern hair loss? It is normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and they do grow back. Female pattern hair loss is about hair thinning. Also, 5% minoxidil is not usually prescribed for women. I don't perform PRP alone for hair loss, and mesotherapy is not practiced in the US.
