  • I finally traveled back to Germany and toured through Germany's most Underrated cities thanks to a subscriber that reached out to give me the ultimate experience. As many of you know, most Americans like myself never even attempt to step outside our comfort zone and venture across the world to explore things like this and THAT is what made this trip even BETTER! If this is your first time finding this channel, WELCOME, and if you're a returning viewer WELCOME BACK! I'll be releasing more videos of my experiences traveling through Germany as well as my unorthodox journey trying to learn German.

As an ex-pat USA, I appreciate your (unusual) interest and curiosity that many Americans don't exhibit. It is great that you've made the effort to learn German - it seems to come naturally to you! It's also great that you've managed to touch base with so many German youth. You are an excellent ambassador for our country!

Foraging berries from a bush is one of the most usual/natural things most mammals do, but in our modern world we feel like this is something crazy. • @Eysenbeiss
      @Eysenbeiss Před 10 měsíci

The castle vibe you got at the ‘Dom’ in Essen most likely came from the parts that used to belong to a sort of monastery (“Stift”), in particular the cloister. Monasteries share with castles that are medieval places where people lived and worked and often had enclosing walls (though by far not all monasteries).

I like how much you appreciate things that are very normal for me, but, to be honest, the Cologne Dome hits me every time I’m there, it’s so huge, it’s mindblowing, and they build over 600 years on it. Wuppertal is really one of the underratest city’s in Germany, I like Wuppertal a lot, not only because of the Schwebebahn, there are many beautiful parks around up on the hills, many nice Cafés and many old buildings. But im a little bit sad, that Düsseldorf, my beloved hometown, has only a small part at the end with a walk at the Rhine and on the Tower, there is so much more to see, you have to come a second time to see it all. You missed much, like Kaiserswerth, The Kö, Unterbacher See, Oberkassel, the rest of the Alststadt, Kaiserteich, Grafenberger Wald, Volksgarten and so on. Well, for the next time you are in Essen, just drive to Essen - Stoppenberg, Fritz - Schupp - Allee, and visit Zeche Zollverein. It is a coal mine closed in 1983, now on the UNESCO world heritage list. I can still remember when the coal pit's iconic elevator over shaft no. 12 appeared in the intro of the 8 p.m. evening news on one of Germany's two TV channels, back in the late 1970s!
Oh shoot, I almost forgot: this abandoned colliery is part of a sightseeing path called "Route der Industriekultur", which can be explored by bike. This is an enormous assortment of Lost Places, i.e. rusty steel mills, coke plants, coal shafts, and much more. In some way it's Germany's Rust Belt, as well as a showcase of a bygone era.

If you are fond of bikeriding, go to the Netherlands or to the capital of Denmark, Kopenhagen. They know how to provide bikelanes everywhere, separated from car traffic. Unfortunately, we in Germany are very far behind in this respect.
The elephant on the Schwebebahn was a baby elephant from the circus. It got scared and jumped out of the car into the river Wupper. Luckily, it didn't hurt itself. The Schwebebahn is well over 100 years old and was constructed and test-ridden in Köln-Deutz. It's a unique suspended monorail. The old car the Kaiser (emperor) rode in in October 1900 (!) is still there and used on special occasions.
There are villas everywhere. The company BAYER was founded in Wuppertal (and later extended to Leverkusen and Dormagen), so those industrial tycoons had some great villas built.

Moin James! If I remember right, you're coming back to good ol' germany end of November / beginning of December. Well, it's Christmas season then. Make sure to visit the Christmas markets in Dresden (Strietzelmarkt, the oldest!) and Nürnberg (the most known). If you can't make it there, enjoy Hamburg and Northern Germany!

I know about the Schwebebahn but I was not aware it runs that fast. Looks futuristic. Change city with a spaceship and clothes with space uniform and one can imagine a scene is Star Wars. I like your videos. Authentic and fun to watch. If you like churches, check out cathedral of Limburg an der Lahn. The cathedral was seen on 1000dm bill. But I would take off your head towel. Maybe check out the unionchurch in the town of idstein. Limburg and idstein are small cities compared to cologne or Frankfurt. I recommend one day canoeing on the Lahn river from Wetzlar to Limburg.

Big up to James for your curiosity, excitement and appreciation. 🙂

If they're not late (big if) ICs and ICEs tend to be a little early so people can get out and in and find their seats. Sometimes there's a little break scheduled in for staff. The time on the ticket or the time you look up is usually the departure time.
Btw you can find wild blackberries pretty much anywhere in Germany. There's a lot on the different routes I take with my dog too. You have to be in luck to find a sweet one though bc the time frame in which they're good to eat is small. Depending on which kind and how much sunlight they get.

James, that bike is WAY too small for your Bodymeasures!
Sitting in the saddle and to reach the pedals, means that your legs should be nearly completely streched out and almost dont bend at all!
You could pull the seatpost higher, but that would not work, because the post is not long enough.
    You need a fitting FrameSize!
*No wonder you did not feel confident on that particular bike, Man!

I would suggest visiting the city’s at the North Sea or the Baltic Sea which is very beautiful with the largest island being Rügen in the north east of Germany.
Or visit the Harz which are very beautiful mountains with folklore about witches, you can even ride a old train up the hill or hike up. 😊✌🏻

07:45 - The saddle should be adjusted so that the legs are stretched when the pedal is at the bottom point. 😂
Anyway, I'm curious which cities you will still visit. I would recommend, for example, times the tranquil Friedberg (Hess.) and the neighboring Bad Nauheim for a day trip - Friedberg was not destroyed by bombs by fortunate circumstances in the 2nd World War and thus still has large parts of its medieval building fabric and in stark contrast to it a truly gigantic church. Also Elvis (yes, THE Elvis) did his military service there.
If you ever find yourself in the eastern part of the country, I can recommend Dresden, Leipzig, and Görlitz, affectionately known as "Görliwood". "Görliwood" because quite a few Hollywood productions were shot there.
so long Dude - have a pleasant stay! ✌

All of them, even the place you showed, obviously being artificial - what you showed there was built on part of the old Krupp steelworks in the 2000s/2010s - but it's still very green.

Well, actually the Rheinturm is the more boring thing of Düsseldorf, walking through Volksgarten, visiting the aquatic zoo or the park around it or the artifiacal beach at the Rhein are much more interesting. For people into art, we have a lot of museums and gallaries as well as Kom´ödchen for real Kabarett just like walking the middle of Königsallee to the rebuild area connecting to Hofgarten, all more interesting than a high up restaurant in my oppinion.

The Rheinturm isn’t always that boring 😄. Many years ago (must have been the late 80s) I was up there with friends and on the way down the elevator had a malfunction. It just stopped and the guy who was supposed to push the buttons had no idea what to do. We passengers attented him to the phone (pre mobile phone of course) in the cabin and suggested to call the mechanics. After ca half an hour they brought the second elevator to the same height (more than 100m) and we all had to climb into the second elevator which brought us finally back down. Not boring at all 😜
