I would love a game where I own a cafe or boba shop and you have to find ways to promote your business while also adding new items on the menu and also making sure customers are happy

the most similar game i can think of would be dave the diver, it does have farming but it's for certain type of sushi and eventually you can unlock characters that will do the farming for you

Isn’t moonlighter (I think it’s called that) like that - you run dungeons and sell what you loot in your store being careful with pricing and getting repeat business?

to me, stardew does a great job of making farming worth it and useful. it even has a whole season where you cant REALLY farm. yes, i know the island is there, and the greenhouse and there are winter seeds but you arent expected to mainly focus on farming the whole season which is a nice change of pace from how monotonous it can get. great vid as always, kora!

    • @cosmodusty
      @cosmodusty Před měsícem

      that's such a good point
i never thought of it but you're totally right, winter is such a nice break from farming and lets you do all the things you don't have time for in the other seasons. i love it.

One of my favorite game series that has farming is Rune Factory:
The game has adventure and story and relationships, which feel like the main focus. You go out and adventure and dungeon crawl to get further along the story, and farming is directly connected with making a worthwhile amount of money, but also for ingredients to cook for friendships. Everyone has their favorite meals that you can cook when you have ingredients. The more crops you ship, the more ingredients (basically anything you sell in your crop box) gets added to the grocery store so you no longer are required to grow it if you have the dough.

The major difference between tedium & relaxation is how much you enjoy the process.
But also how intuitive the process is.
I'd very much agree. Farming isn't inherently fun. But it can be super satisfying. It just isn't handled well much of the time.

I like the farming in My Time At Sandrock. Plants don't need to be watered literally every day, there's always enough non-farming tasks available each day so it's mostly optional, the main use for it is gifts to build relationships with villagers rather than money because everyone loves homecooked meals, and as you progress in the game more automation options become available until you end up with a greenhouse that does all the work growing crops and a robot to harvest them for you so all you have to do is buy seeds and you can focus entirely on the rest of the game.

2:30 I counteract this in Stardew Valley with the +energy items. I love those. I love shoving salmonberries down my throat so I can go fishing more after watering 72 (I calculated this, I know it was exactly 72) strawberries among other crops. :]

Stardew is my favourite game of all time. It's been a source of relaxation and joy for me for a fair few years and nothing brings me more happiness than that satisfying pop pop noise as I'm collecting hundreds of strawberries.
None farming cozy game wise, House Flipper. Decorating in games is a huge plus for me. I only ever build and decorate in the sims now and never actually play the life sim part of it. So house flipper is nearly a perfect game for me.

I keep saying it, but I wish there was a farming game out there that actually focused on different types of things, including farming. Like, a ranching-based game would be so fire!
Harvest Moon: Animal Parade was one of my favorite games as a kid. I loved how it focused more on animals in a game, but also had a good balance with crops. It never felt like you were just doing it because you had to; you honestly wanted to take good care of your animals and your crops.
Farming games are becoming more and more about just crops, and animals are just becoming a secondary placement to the point where they’re basically useless, and it makes me sad.
Imagine a ranching game where it focuses on animals and you can raise livestock and even train up guardian stock dogs, or herding dogs to keep your livestock safe.
The animals actually have lifespans again instead of just being these immortal husks that don’t do anything. Having to generally keep your herd healthy and check on them, move them around in the field so grazing land can replenish itself. It all sounds like such a fun concept, but every farming game at this point is just copying Stardew or the OG Harvest Moon games. None of them are doing anything new; it’s getting kind of boring. I’ve said before-if you've played one farming game, you’ve basically played them all in this cozy game spectrum. :(

Like it or not Stardew Valley and other cozy games of the sort rely on time management since the days are always so short, it makes me feel stressed and that I'm doing everything wrong, I like cozy games where I can take my time and it feel rewarding, I love ACNL and Tomodachi Life for that reason.

I would like to see a video about New Horizons, the difference between a “new” day and a “different” day. What I mean is that when time traveling, sometimes the game counts the new date as a “new day” and rerolls or resets everything like you expected, and sometimes it’s instead a “different day” where some specific things are the same as before or reset differently. Basically a list of what we can expect to change vs stay the same on these two types of days.
What I’ve noticed is that the generic rule is: time traveling forward creates a New Day, which will re-roll store inventory, spawn a new DIY bottle, deliver ordered items, etc. Time traveling backward creates a Different Day, which will act different based on a few things.
For instance, if you play on one day and time travel forward one day, then back again, you’ll find that the game will remember weather you picked up the bottle that day, what items were for sale, who you talked to, etc. This “memory” window also applies to going forward to days you’ve already played. It’s still considered a New Day and will advance everything as normal, but it will not re-roll or respawn things that were already rolled or spawned when you played it last. This window only applies to a small period of time, though, so if you time travel 3 months in the future or 3 months back, returning to your time will reveal your game has not remembered those things like it would if you had traveled for a day or two instead.

Its crazy how New Horizons does farming badly in how its implemented but its nice because it gives decent profit it you have a small farm that you spend like 6 minutes doing if you are harvesting directly. but Stardew's feels like you have farm in general to even do, and get stuff.

Farming is ironically some of my favourite things in the game. I dislike fishing in anything other than Animal Crossing because I have to do a tedious mini game. Farming on the other hand I always enjoy it. I love creating and building the farm, I love using it for decoration. I've never played or watched stardew btw. Sure in the late game I might ignore it, but I also ignore fish and bugs and collecting.
One example is Minecraft. There's a mod which adds loads of crops and foods, called Pam's Harvestcraft. I find it impossible to play without it because I just love having hundreds of things to farm

Since I'm currently playing a lot of Coral Island, I agree most with the point that the farming mechanic should be quick and Stardew does it really well. Having to click on every single crop one by one to harvest them is super tedious and therefor gets boring/annoying very quickly.

It's been a little over a year (maybe two?) since I finally stopped playing a Farmville game going back all the way to like 2008 or 2009. I still farm in some games, but not as much.

I don't enjoy farming when it takes all my ingame time of the day away.
There must be fast ways to water your crops like sprinklers.
For example I like farming in Paleo Pines or Ooblets, because it's so satisfying and fast. I don't like it in Stardew. In Animal Crossing it's just there for decoration (for me at least).

Every game that comes out and tries to be stardew valley ends up being a garbage dumbed-down version, not even 10% close. I've gone through almost every farming sim that's come out, and I struggle to name even 1 that has made me feel the joy that stardew did.The farming is either too slow and tedious, or the money you get from it is so little making the game a massive grind that doesn't feel rewarding in the slightest. Then, you try to explore other aspects of the game and realize there isn't much going on. They have the bare minimum "requirements" of a farming sim, and it just feels uninspired.

Didn't like stardew valley. Not my cup of tea. I stuck with Rune Factory Tides of Destiny and Rune Factory 4. 5 sucks. all these new harvest moon games suck as well. A wonderful life and FoMT/mFoMT are the only ones that are good.
If your game's farming/most mechanic also raises your stats/stamina, then I'd play it. Just like the Rune factory series.
