The Nike Mercurial series has always been about speed, but for 2024, it's all about grip! In today's video we take a closer look at the new Nike Zoom Mercurial Superfly 10 & Vapor 16 Elites in the launch Blueprint colorway, both featuring a combination of Flyknit, Gripknit and Atomknit in the upper construction, along with all-new soleplate tooling to "improve" the feel of the Air Zoom unite underfoot! It all sounds great on paper, but how does it actually feel and perform? We discuss all of the tech, how the compare to teh previous generation and why these new Mercs might not be for everyone, even if you've been a fan of the series for a very long time!

I only wear the Superfly’s because they’re perfect for turf. No rubber bits ever get in my boots.
Nah if you want thin synthetic get the X Crazyfast or F50 or the Skechers Razor... the Knit Vapor is better.
Or just have a wider fit variation instead of the sock superfly. Then the normal one can be slightly more narrow like the older ones
Would have a low cut superfly and midcut version while the vapor remains with the synthetic upper it Vaporposite or a return to the Taijin synthetic uppers. Just miss the time when Vapor and superfly are two very different boots of the mercurial family.
Nike should make their Mercurial Vapor and Superfly two completely different boots at the same time by making the Vapor have a traditional Teijin synthetic upper and the Superfly have a flyknit upper. Right now, the difference between these two boots is just the collar to give “ankle support,” which is completely ridiculous gimmick marketing that turns out to be good

Regarding the grip knit, I feel that the grip wears of slightly (my experience from Phantom GX). I had some trouble adjusting when juggling a ball, but not anymore after a few sessions and I think that is mainly because the grip doesn't stay as grippy. Which in my opinion is a good thing, especially when you play on a dry AG pitch.
Been waiting for this one, they looked absolutely insane in the leaked olympics colorway. Just so sad that i have wider feet :(

Honestly the best boot I ever wore were the Vapor 11s.
I have the WC 2022 Vapor 15 Elite with the AG plate, amazing boots, was heavily tempted by the 25th anniversary packs, the pink/volt and very nearly took the plunge on the Mad Brilliance Pink/Black Euro 2024 pair, but held off for the new Vapor 16 Elite, the colourway is ok but I think that better ones will come, also waiting on the AG plate so perhaps it could be a wait for them to go on Nike By You (FKA NIKE ID)

Difference between the 15 and 16 is night and day. The 16's actually fit human feet. The 15's were extremely painful and unwearable. The zoom unit seems more noticeable on the 16 as well.
I personally love this direction from Nike/Adidas in speed boots. Makes sense tbh. Soft, consistent, responsive, WITH a little bite on the ball for control. I feel like a lot of people love that combo. Basically a lean CTR-360 if you think about it

I’ve been playing in my Vapor 13s a lot recently, and I sometimes find myself wishing I had a bit more grip as the upper can feel a bit slick sometimes, especially in moist/wet field conditions. However, I’m relieved to hear that the grip on this upper is not as aggressive as the one on the GXs. Might be a perfect balance. I’ll prob still buy the Mizuno Morelia neo 4 MIJ non-beta’s as my next boot because I’ve always wanted to try them 😂 but nice work here Nike.

Excited to try a pair, hopefully they are similar to the feel of the Vapor 13s as those were probably my all time favorite boot I’ve ever worn. Sadly can’t find any in a reasonable price anymore.

This comment might be too nerdy but there was a podcast that you said that the one thing that could’ve been improved in the Vapor 13 to make it perfect was if it could be a made of a one piece soleplate. Now with this generation being somewhat similar to the 13 in terms of the upper, that one-piece soleplate, similar studs, and the addition of air zoom, is this Vapor 16 an improvement over the 13s? You think this might be a Flyknit Ultra with zoom considering the grip (different but the closest in grip)?
If you wanted a Vapor 13 with more grip on the ball, I think it’s fair to say that this is an improvement. More grip from these than what Flyknit Ultra had as well

Just left my CR7 ch3 (discovery SP Portugal colorway) superfly AG at the field. Been using them since I got them in 2016. They were the gold standard.
Now Looking at the 10 elite in black AG. Really looking forward to the flyknit. Thanks for info as always!!!

@@samuelpinzon-ix9ul haven’t tried them out completely as i’m waiting for the season to start… do fit pretty narrow ngl but still true to size and very confortable. You can definitely notice the air unit.

They’re pretty well the same shape as the previous generation. If you’ve worn Mercs in the past and they felt good, these should fit you too. Are they wide fitting boots though, not exactly.
this might be the first time where the superfly is better looking than the vapor , they both look bulky , but with collar its better hidden
i found the vapor 15’s in my true size 10 to feel very tight , should i just get these in a 10.5? cus i got the phantom gx thunder in a 10.5 and ngl they are too roomy lol

To yourt "limited" may be more expensive comment, the superflys dropping on July 11th & 18th are listed at $285 USD instead of $300
the profile of the shoe is really heavy, compare it with that of the vapor x and you will see the difference
I have phantom gx2 and vapour 15 and predators and the new puma carbon the puma boots are easily my favourite so u think that these new mercurials will be any better for my taste?
If you really like the Ultra 5 Carbon, nothing really compares closely to those. Would you like these, most likely. Will you like them more than the Pumas, hard to say. They’re very different

I love my pair of first gen phantom gx’s I’m currently playing in right now. Even though it took 1-2 training sessions to get used to the grip knit they are my favorite boots by far.Before these I also had a pair of vapor 15’s and were very fond of them and as well. Do you think going back to the vapors for this new gen would be a good idea especially to someone who plays as a aggressive wingback?

the gripknit goes away over little time either ways… go with the vapors 15 or if you want get the phantom gx
and if you already have the 15 just stick to them
Considering Nike has been teasing these for a long time and Josh is a big name on the football boots community,they’re gonna send him a pair early. Which is quite rare given Josh normally have them about a week or two later

Just some extra material around your ankle. Heel construction and liner is identical. No difference in fit or comfort either

for me the mizuno alpha still the best speed boots
Its almost the same as previous gen but a bit different love that they keep the swoosh on top as it should be! Nike should do more rereleases like the rosas in 2020 and safari’s.. would like to see the dark green vapor 4 being rereleased

How much space do you have at from the end of the shoe to your toe? I’m typically a size 10 but trying to decide if I should get a 9.5. I have a about 2/3 of thumbs width of space at the front, but the rest of the shoe feels snug and secure

Only downside is after 3 months of playing ball the beautiful white turns dirty and dark grey and you cant clean it
💯Nice review as always.I'll definitely wait for the AG versions review.I've got vapor 15 elite ag for almost a year.It's really great boot but after 2 or 3 months of wearing I got soleplate separations and one studs being broken.After seeing that the soleplate slightly changed on vapor 16 I am really curious to see what they will do about the AG version.

in the 2022 WC "Generations Pack" colour ( Gold/White/Purple/Pink) in November 2022, had none of these issues so far

Are these better than F50 Messi version? I like both but have had problems with mercurials being a bit too tight in the midfoot. I haven't tried these new mercs yet, but I fear the same problem will happen and I don't even have that wide feet. I love the Mizuno's Morelia's I have now, so I'm slightly leaning towards Messi's boots. Should I go for them?
If you need more width and prefer a more padded feel, the Messi F50 would be the way to go. Both great, just very different

They will probably sell out quick, but then get released again in another colour very soon just like the Adidas F50 just did in the purple, then the white version and then the Messi version. That's just my opinion though not factual
This *particular* colour way will be very limited, chances are you won’t get your size if you don’t cop within the first hour or two.
That said, they will release an in line colourway pack after the Euros/closer to the start of next season. So you should be able to pick em up then. They’ve done this for every launch since the Vapor 14s/Superfly 8 generation.

Josh, would you say the top is as pliable as the lunas? I always had to go up half a size because of that polyurethane coaching, where as the lunas I could go true to size.

When you consider many folks have been waiting for these boots they will be gone quickly.. don’t know the official release date yet but best advice would be to put place your order if it’s on preorder. If you didn’t get it,you can just go for the much more available general release colorways that will drop once the European club football league season starts

I don't think it's a matter of Nike not sending and/or providing CR7 with the latest boots. I think it has way more to do with CR7 not necessarily wanting to switch into a new model in the middle of the Euro. I would think that would be the case with a lot of pros. Mbappé is obviously less bothered by the change 🤷
I’m pretty sure Nike has already sent him a pair of Superfly 10s except maybe they came a little late so he didn’t wear it because a game against Slovenia is coming up plus some professional players would not want to take time break in their boots. Sure the boots are custom shaped to his feet but Ronaldo maybe feels like now is not the time yet. On Mbappe like Josh said wasn’t bothered so he wore his.
Also Ronaldo when it comes to signature colorways,he tends to wear them until they get incredibly dirty and dark even if there are general release colorways for him,he would wear that signature colorways for a few months before he change to a general release colors
