My Mum and Dad emigrated from Carshalton, Surrey and Feltham, South London to San Francisco in 1964. Dad passed customs with $200.00 in his pocket and six months to find work. Mum entered six months later with a five year old kid and $20.00. They sold everything to get to the USA. Neither had been more than 150 miles from London. They had one shot at getting it together and no plan of retreat if they didn't.
Dad went on to gain a high level civilian military clearance and became senior design engineer at Lockheed Missiles and Space. He worked at the Blue Cube on Moffett Naval Air Station Mtn. View, Ca. on government things he wasn't allowed to speak of to others. Dad passed away having never divulged what it was he did to help America.
Mum (a very accomplished concert pianist in England who once played the Royal Albert Hall) would eventually own several beauty salons. Many years later I took an apprenticeship under her tutelage and became a hairdresser myself.
They were naturalised in the Bicentennial year of 1976. Although both have now long since gone I still have their Certificates of Naturalisation hanging on a wall in my home. I have never for one moment forgotten the sacrifices they made so that we kids would have a better life than that which we would have had in England. That is the greatest love I could have possibly have asked for. It was an incredible achievement for two kids who came from zero, endured WWII, the Battle of Britain, three times bombed out of their family homes and the Blitz of London. They came from nothing and honestly had precious little chance of much but they made it all the way!
My twin sister and I are the first natural born Americans in our family.
Mum and Dad dearly loved America and in all things American they delighted. To myself they were the bravest people I have ever known. They must have been terrified.
So, I extend a heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Oliver. Welcome to the USA. You as well good sir have made it all the way and I'll wager that feels so good you're a bit dizzy with it. 🇬🇧🇺🇸❤️

I brought my existing passport along, and he asked me if I had visited any places in the past so I mentioned long off trips out of the country, and he asks why they are not stamped in there and I'm like that's a new passport, maybe last year or so.
