    My favorite part of the book this movie was based off of was when Greg Sestero was living with Tommy and went to go see "The Talented Mr. Ripley" at the behest of a friend. The movie is about a sociopath who adheres to a successful and popular family, tries to emulate the charming young man at the center of it, becomes so obsessed he falls in love with him and ends up clubbing him to death with an oar in a fit of mania.
    Greg walks out of the theater white as a sheet and thinking "Oh my god, Tommy's gonna kill me."

    I saw the premiere of 'The Disaster Artist' in Melbourne, where Greg Sestero presented. He spoke for about half an hour, answering questions. Was rather witty and made Tommy Wiseau out to be a complete narcissist (unsurprising). The film was hilarious but I agree that the humour comes from the mocking the film does of The Room. Also, glad you guys brought up the homoeroticism, particularly from Tommy's side. I haven't read the book so couldn't figure out whether they added it for the film (this being a James Franco film after all...) and what the actual context was.

      @Gogogo1315 Před 6 lety +42

      Exactly, what made the Disaster Artist so compelling to read wasn't the behind-the-scenes stuff about The Room, it was the study of Tommy. It was dark at times, but it also made Tommy a deeply sympathetic character. Pretty disappointing.

    • @njdss4
      @njdss4 Před 6 lety +47

      I did see the movie, and it absolutely left out a lot of Tommy's darker moments from the book, which I also read. Tommy's growing jealousy and childish tantrums he had at Greg at Tommy's apartment, like raising the rent to spite Greg for his success, or Tommy driving like a madman, almost getting into accidents seemingly to scare Greg with Greg in the car because Tommy was mad at him. These were left out, and it makes the movie feel less accurate to the book. I could go on, too, but I think you get my point.

    I like that he made the Doogie Howser comparison. It's actually an EXTREMELY COMMON story template. You would not believe how many episodes of a tv show have someone making the bad movie/play that people laugh at and then they have to be told "but they're not laughing at you, they're laughing with you!"

I know about the room, seen reviews and heard all the stories, but I have yet to see The Room itself (we keep talk about it with friends how we will grab some beers and watch but so far no good), so I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I did not mind the Hollywoody buddy comedy things between Tommy and Greg as much and the scenes where Room is made are geuinely entertaning .So I feel like someone like me is the proper audience for it. Someone who knows about the Room, but have not seen it yet.

    You know, I read the book, and it feels like the stuff leading up to the filming would have made a great film on its own, just chronicling the path that Greg Sestero took to acting in a terrible film, then his attempts to salvage and rescue a project that has everyone walking out or cursing out Tommy for his horrendous behavior. You put the film itself in the background, maybe throw in a couple scenes of Tommy's horrible acting here and there, and just focus on Greg's strained relationship with this horrible, crazy man.
    But, as they pointed out, Tommy would have never signed off on it, even though it makes for a better story. A shame, that.

      godammit you missed out on the RedLetterMedia storyline you dumb fuck.
      Mike is plotting to steal all of Mr.Plinkett's Bank Account money by arousing him and Jay with gay pheromones , to entice them to marry each other, but every now and them he realizes that not only would Jay and Plinkett waste all the money on their honey moon, but probably wouldn't be able to make a proxy account to steal the money from, every intro of a Half in The Bag episode ever since 2006 or something starts and ends with a sketch gag eventially developing into a storyline, it's a amalgamation of the "CZcamsr Movie Syndrome" James Rolfe made the TheAngryVideoGameNerdMovie , Mike and Jay made Space Cop ,The Nostalgia Critic used to make short films with a bunch of reviewers back in the old days, and pretty much every other cancerous youtuber did their own movie like Smosh,Fred and even fucking Pewdiepie.

      They’ve known each other for years, kind of a strained friendship but I guess they like each other so it’s natural that greg would kind of be meh with tommy .
      Back then though, you gotta remember he was 19 years old and am actor looking for an opportunity and he meets this eccentric guy and is in awe of him and gets cast in his movie so naturally I can see a young Greg being in awe of him. It’s really not that far fetched.

    • @Ugleseth
      @Ugleseth Před rokem

      @@cicolasnage5684 have you read the book? The Tommy & Greg relationship that is portrayed there is nothing like the one in movie. Dave Franco is completely wrong for the role. Sestero refused to play in The Room, until Wiseau basically promised him a salary that meant he never had to work again, and in the movie, Greg seems like groupie that would do anything for him. Just the fact that Dave is shorter and less handsome than James Franco makes it look like The Room cosplay at best.
