My dad camped out at Best Buy and got me a PS2 on release day. I didn't know he did it until a month later when I got it for my birthday, along with a newspaper article with him in the picture as the second person in line. He picked up SSX with it and I remember that game just blowing my mind! Gives me the feels to this day.
Yolo Swaggins That's pretty cool.
What a dude!
Holy shit what a cool dad
Your dad sounds amazing!
That's beyond awesome that you're father went out of his way (and sleep) to do that for you.
I'd say the fact that it was a cheap DVD player and backward compatible with PSOne games help sell a lot of PS2s at first. I know that's why I bought one. So many great games helped seal the deal.
Let's just hope the PS5 has total backwards compatibility, because the PS4 was a disappointment in that department.
@@TFSyndicate doubt it with physical copies but possible with cloudgaming ...

With the likes of PlayStation Now & money to be made on re-releasing old titles, remakes & visual upgrade rerelease's of last gen games, You've got little chance of that.
@Mark Hernandez Hey Mark I need that back bro
@@bryanescalante2871 NO
My original PS2 launch system is still up and running. Impressed with the system from day 1.
Mine as well! Though I can't say I turn it on all that often these days.
Just played mine yesterday. Had to play the old burnout games and I have to say it still runs great and a lot of fun
Ya'll never played movies on them that's why
@@EmoKakyo Actually our family's first DVD player for 7 years was our PS2, and it still plays games and DVD's as good as it ever has.
The machine is damn near perfect
The PS2 is the very best PlayStation in my opinion. It just feels so fresh even to this day. I had PS4 but didn't like it so I am back to playing PS2.
I definitely agree: I have so many games to play on my ps2 to this day. Ps3 and 4 were okay but definitely lack original games for the most part.
it's not only your opinion, it's a fact, over 150 million selled copies, tons of new IP's, backwards compability, DVD player, immense library of 3000+ games. No console ever did (or ever will) outmatch the PS2.
I respectfully agree with that^^, I didn't used to agree with the PS2 being the "best" console ever but through more research and reflection, it definitely has to be overall.
However I still believe that during its era, it was overrated some, amazing it was yes, but it wasn't 130 million units better than the GameCube or Xbox. All 3 of those systems were incredible but the sales make the latter systems seem like total crap by comparison which (wasn't) isn't true at all.
In my high school years, I knew ppl that had at least one of each and it was great to hang out with different ppl and play all 3 but I never understood why the Ps2 sold soo much more than the others, didn't make sense, to this day I believe the Ps1's massive success driving incredible momentum and its early "cheap" DVD player had to be a large part as to why, obviously alongside with its stellar library, because while it's library was amazing, so were the libraries of its competition, which had many of the same games via multi-plats.
It basically didn't matter which system you had, chances are you loved it, it was the golden age of 3d gaming imo.
Retro Soul Yep I have to agree that it sold so well because of the cheap DVD player. The Xbox was brand new and Microsoft didn't have a footing in the gaming business yet. Plus you had to buy a remote to play DVD's on the Xbox, and the PS2 played them with just the controller. The GameCube although a great console had no DVD player and only hardcore Nintendo fans seemed to be buying one. The PS2 may be the greatest PlayStation ever, but back then it only sold because of the DVD playback abilities.
+fireheartis1 not really, while the cheap dvd player was definitely a contributing factor. calling it the only reason is nonsense. the ps2 was so attractieve due to it's immense library. not to mention all the exclusives and new ip's. final fantasy x/x-2/XII, metal gear solid 3, ratchet and clank, jak and Dexter, sly Tycoon. ico, shadow of the collosus, god of war, god hand, okami, dragon quest 8, devil may cry, Getaway, gran Turismo 4, kingdom hearts, bully, soul calibur III, syphon filter and the list goes on. many of those games didnt exist and still don't on other systems
This has made me realise how much I was missing your show. Welcome back fellas!
Agreed.
It's been so long hasn't it?!
+N64 Glenn Plant You have a awesome channel as well Glenn keep up the great work!
Great to see them back
+N64 Glenn Plant I'd say your show is the closest show to Gamesack on CZcams.
I don't think I can find dryer content anywhere.
Guys, I know it is hard but.. Thank You for keeping Game Sack Alive :)
There is no old school show like this on the web!
This is easily my favorite console ever. So many great games for dirt cheap.
not to mention that backwards compatibility, which means you get to enjoy the PS1 library too
Coleman Straight Espically at flee markets
Coleman Straight Oh yea, you can get rare gems, unheard of peripherals and popular classics in cheap stores, markets or charity shops for anywhere from 5p to a humoungous £3 xD
Coleman Straight i know right wish i didnt sell mine 😢😢
Not anymore lol
The one thing I love about the ps2 is the sheer variety of its library. The original PlayStation and the PS2 also features some highly experimental games that we would likely never see today. Titles such as Parappa tha Rapper, Point Blank, Mr. Mosquito, Katamari Damacy and plenty, plenty more were unlike anything else seen before or since in gaming. Obviously big budget games
How many people stored their weed in the Expansion bay? Parents would never find that shit.
Lol
Actually yea. I hid porn, cigarettes and weed when I was in high school. Cool I'm not the only one. LOL
If only you could stash alcohol in it. Lol.
+GreenTeaNinja 23 that was the original X box.
I hide my weed in my gamecubes expansion pack
MGS 3 is to me STILL the very best MGS game ever. But MGS 3 also made me HATE frogs!!
the frogs are cute tho
future_Tarzan NOT in MGS 3!They are noisy and annoying as fuck when you shoot at them.
Wanna fight?
How can you hate frogs? Did you eat them in the game? Snake prefers rations.
i like how you focus on games more then hardware
overall the games are the most important part

So glad to see you guys back in action. My daughters love to watch with me, as well. I've heard "Daddy, put on Game Sack!" more than I care to admit.
Damn nice to see this show back!
love ur vids fam.
+Rerez Seriously. Dropped what I was doing the second I saw the notification that they uploaded a new video.
+Rerez I know, isn't it Shane? What a happy day. Don't ya just love Davey White?!
The undisputed king of video game consoles.
Agreed, and Sony's golden era. The company hasn't been the same since.
absolutely
SNES bro..PS2 2nd
Ive had my PS2 for 20 years and it's still going strong. It was the last console my parents bought for me so it holds some sentimental value. It's a great console and I think every gamer should own one. There's no better library than what you find here. 😊
Couldn't agree more Paul, I've been on a real ps2 bender since setting it up with free mcboot mem card and a 2tb hdd.
I remember it was my hub for RPGs, along with some fighting and action games.
Shadow of Destiny, Xenosaga, Grandia, .hack, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Inuyasha, Lupin the 3rd, Monster Rancher, Monster Hunter, Suikoden, Klonoa 2, Wild Arms, Buldar's Gate, Dark Cloud, Marvel vs Capcom, Rule of Rose... I could go on and on and on. I still have all those games and more. PS2 is still my most valued console to date.
reviewing ps2 in 2016 which is something i really loved
this console still has some of the best games of all time
Every console that has sold at least 9 mil has some of the best of all-time though, at least 1.
Retro Soul
Yep, and many of my favourites on Ps2 were on other consoles too.
Jak and Daxter, baby! Seeing that game makes me feel so nostalgic. I really miss those days of pure gaming bliss... good times.
Would love to see those Phantasy Star remakes end up getting compiled together on a compilation at some point
+AlphaOmegaSin That would be fucking amazing!
+AlphaOmegaSin Dayuuuuuuuum whatchu doin here?
Phantasy Star is now dead.
+SeGa32xXx1 in Japan pso2 is actually doing rather well
I just want a Phantasy Star 5
Really glad to see you guys back!
Great to have you back, Joe and Dave. You were missed. You made my Sunday mornings.
I love rewatching all these old episodes.
My favorites are the ace combat series. Way better than recent Installments
Definitly fared better than poor Klonoa. Ughhh...
Aliasing... So much endless, eye-straining, headache-inducing aliasing everywhere...
Indeed.
I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it.
+alexanderalexandrou I don't know what I'm talking about but isn't anti-aliasing a much bigger detriment to 2D games than 3d ones? There is pixel art that gets ruined by anti-aliasing 2D games but textured 3D games look better when blurred rather than pixelated, right? I mean, it's not a full-screen raster effect, is it?
+disparityband I guess you could call anti-aliasing the removal of the jaggedness of angled lines in 3D games that is caused by low resolution. The PS2 was infamous for not having any easy way of implementing this feature despite its overall power, which produced a shimmering blurriness on screen in many 3D games. I'm sensitive to visual issues like aliasing, fps drops, etc., so I had problems with the PS2. The Dreamcast and the original Xbox didn't have this issue.
*****
GTA on the PS2 added motion blur to hide the aliasing issues, but for me it was nauseating after 10 minutes because you had 2 layers of visual issues, the shimmering effect of aliasing and the blurriness of motion blur on top of that trying to hide it. Love the PS2, but it had some quirks.
Thanks for coming back you've been missed.
Thanks for all the great videos Game Sack. I can tell you guys are really passionate about gaming and pick interesting games that are unique to your tastes instead of just the biggest titles. I just found your channel recently and added practically every video to my watch later list!
Welcome back, guys, this was a nice episode, I see a lot of effort put into this one so I can see why was the delay, honestly this still is my favorite youtube channel which made the past month kinda slow for me, looking forward more episodes in the future, please do a MSX episode!
I beat Shadow of the Colossus within 24 hours after it was released on PS2. To this day, it remains the most emotionally gripping video game game experience of my entire life.
-beat-
I totally get that. My personal best game of all time!
Great game but I have to assume then that you haven't played The Last of Us yet
+Mickael Mc
I do need to play that one. I know it's hailed is one of the very best PS3 games ever.
Dave Bladegun The best, dude. unfortunately at this point, you've heard that from everyone for the past 3 years. hopefully, your expectations will be in check. but yeah, it's the best.
Good to see you guys back. And RIP the PS2, the best console ever, along with the SNES.
+CAX 117 Well of-course, what else would it be?
actually it's the ps2 and sega megadrive
blarg69man ***** Everyone already knows it's my opinion by virtue of the fact that I said it. No need to restate the obvious.
R.I.P.? No way. Long live the PS2!
Thanks Joe and Dave! Another great ep in the books! I really like the way you guys did the overview for one of the best consoles. With such a massive library it would be hard for me to find the games that really define the system but I think you guys did the PS2 justice. Great job
So good to have you back, and what a way to make an encore entrance: a 45-minute video on my second-favorite console of all time! Thank you so much. :)
IM SO HAPPY THAT YOU'RE BACK AND I HAVE TO WRITE THIS IN ALL CAPS TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW!!
You guys should have mentioned that the PS2 is backwards compatible with the PS1 giving it access to that console's large library as well.
Also, you have the Sega Collections disc and didn't show the Virtua Racing remake!
Great video. Glad to have my fav duo back. Thanks for coming back guys.
great episode and welcome back!!! I was scared and worried you guys weren't coming. thank you for such a awesome episode.
MGS 2 is the game that introduced me to peeing in a bottle.
SnippleSnapple lol
LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A vital skill for any gamer
😂😂😂 Lmao
Yakuza graphics look pretty good on the PS2 man. Haven’t seen a game with that much detail.
Love having you guys back in action!!
Oh, and nice to have you back doing what you do best and you are the best!!
So glad you guys talked about Odin Sphere, too bad you seem to not know anything about it outside of the first hour or two of play. You don't only play as Gwyndolyn, the story follows 5 protagonists. And as you progress you get more and bigger bags to hold more than enough items to assist you. As well as when this was published it had already been announced we were getting the remake here in the states.
WTF?! Why didnt you cover "insert 3955" titles here"?...... Glad to see you guys are back at it.
Awesome episode! I love the segments after the credits roll. Cracks me up!
Thank you guys SO much for coming back, I am a huge fan of the show and was bummed out when I read an article stating the show was on temporary hiatus. I am a collector/gamer and would have never owned or known about some of my favorite games if it weren't for this show. Can we pleaaaaaaaase have a Sega Genesis episode and a SNES one too?
I love the PS2, I grew up with it and am learning more and more that nothing's going to top it for me. I keep going back to the PS2 and buying more and more games for it. Overtime I went back and collected every PlayStation console to and still the PSone and PS2 have dominated my favorite games list. Recently I've been trying out the Genesis and Master System, which are really cool and had tuns of great ideas, but I still really enjoy 6th Generation gaming the most.
So glad my favorite channel is back!
Just binged watched pretty much all of your videos....I just couldn't stop! You guys are great and I really dig all the retro games you represent! by far one of my favorite youtube channel's...anyway keep up the kick-ass work. The PS2 is by far my favorite gaming console (though I grew up on NES) It helped create my favorite gaming series...Ratchet and Clank.
Great episode, i am so happy that you decided to make videos again!
Capcom made a terrible mistake by abandoning Onimusha
+Alexander Ditimus IK! Onimusha 1-3 are all amazing games, 3 being my favorite.
I come from the future to tell you they remastered Onimusha for PS4
Golum I wish they brought the first 3 games in a compilation of sorts. That would have it a more compelling purchase imo but I'm glad they brought it back nonetheless, next they gotta bring back both excellent Maximo games!
Ikr
@@golummcsmeagolhomie2396 its not a great remake though
Welcome back!
So happy you guys are back!!! :) Thanks for another amazing video!
Great episode as always guys and I really appreciate that you have the song titles this time around :-) 👍
Nice Review!!! So many hidden gems that I did not know about!
Blood will tell by "Stupid Sega". Lol. As much as I like Sega that made me laugh
Intro with all the PS2 facts were gold. Good job, guys!
The PS2 imo was the greatest proper "sequel" to any hardware release. They took the best system ever made and made a truly perfect successor!
Glad to see you guys are back! I have an idea suggestion: you've done Sega after the Dreamcast, now you should do the Dreamcast after Sega!
Naw
Here is "Blood Will Tell" by Stupid Sega.
lol
Stupid Sega, how dare they are so awesome

Glad you´re back. Really missed you guys. Best on youtube.
I love these longer episodes. You guys are the best, I missed your show.
Man, Shadow Hearts needs more love. One of my favorite series right now. Even had a cool prequel called Koudelka on the PS1. Highly recommended games if you haven't played them.
love Shadow Hearts
The PS2 brought so many memories, especially in my teenage years. Even in 2008, there was some games to look forward to, which was very fortunate because in those days, I couldn't get a PS3, 360 or Wii unless I got lucky or asked for it for Christmas. And the PS2 still had great games to look for I missed out on even then. I still remember playing Guitar Hero with friends and family, and I'd be lying if I said I don't go back every now and then. Every once in a while, I still collect for the system, at least when it comes to games still stuck on the console.
Welcome back!! Great long episode. I know a lot of effort went into it.
aww hell yeah! new gamesack! i really appreciate the work you put into theese guys.
Gamesack is back!? HELL YEAH!
When you boot up Sega Rally Championship, hold triangle and X and you will get the option for progressive scan. Unfortunately, Sega Rally 2006 doesn't support it.
I've tried that. Doesn't work.
Try it again! I did it for the first time this morning. You must hold the two buttons as soon as it boots up. I'm using the Swap Magic CD rom driver to boot up the disk on my slip PS2. After pressing square for special boot, I immediately held x and Triangle and the option box appeared.
Monacomaverick
I have it on HD Loader and hold them as I press the X to start the game. Tried many times throughout the years. No issues holding X and Triangle to get others to boot to 480p.
I have never used HD loader before. I'm guessing it is USB based? Swap Magic was a cheap and easy way for me to play imports. I actually bought Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box the other day.
+Game Sack Use OPL, I use OPL to load my games from the hard drive, so really I have even less time to hold the buttons, but I get it almost every time still.
glad you're back, have loved the channel for years.
I loved the NES and Genesis, but the ps2 has such an unparalleled depth and variety to its library.
Welcome back guys! I am so happy to see this video :)
You guys did a great service here with talking about a lot of PS2 games that are cheap enough for anyone to get!
No they didn't... Where are the GTA games?
And we're back again... Awesome stuff! Great ps2 overview guys.
I thought ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are the same series or are at least ralated in some way. You didn't mention this.. Is it a spiritual successor to Ico or something like that?
+Retro Reaktor Yeah, SotC's ending references ICO
lachiripiolca
thanks.
+lachiripiolca And hopefully The Last Guardian will ref both of those games.
So great to see you guys back.
Thank you guys for your great reviews. I enjoy watching them.☺
Come on, you guys show Silpheed and not FREAKING GRADIUS V, R-TYPE FINAL AND THUNDER FORCE VI?
PS: Welcome back!
I love ps2 I just got one again my other one broke a while ago
I'm so happy you guys are back! I love your show!!!
Finally more GameSack!
Love you guys!
I have been one of the biggest fans from the beginning guys. I know what you mean by not feeling appreciated for the hard work though. It sucks that we live in the age of people who can't do, but who want to have an opinion about how you can. There's a lot of us however that love your show. And appreciate everything that you do for us. Not just the gaming aspect, but the entertainment aspect as well. Is a kid born in 77, every single thing that you guys talk about relates to me. I have a child myself I was born in 99 who relates to everything you guys still talk about. So I feel like your show transcends a bit more than what others do. You're right most people now just wants some yahoo that yelling, and who's barely audible while doing so, about how games suck. I call it AVGN syndrome. There is only one Gamesack like there's only one James Rolfe. You guys have not filled in it, or a boy, you made this your own thing. You guys have a genuine love for all things gaming. I was pissed there wasn't more of you two on " the videogame years " lol. If you decide to fade away, you have definitely made an impact on the Gaming Community, and on a lot of people's lives in a positive way. Hopefully you don't but I understand.
Dragon Quest for the ps2 By my opinion is one of the best games for the system
Great video as always guys. Glad you're back.
My original ps2 with ethernet adapter was stolen from storage years ago and I replaced it with the slim model but it’s just never felt the same. I loved the fat model and might pick one up again someday for nostalgia and the collection. So many memories from playing ps2 as an undergrad.
I'm shocked that you didn't play star wars battle front 2. That was my favorite game for the ps2! I'm still happy that you played shadow of the colossus that will have to be my second fav game to play lol!
do ps2 game reviews!
OK.
+Game Sack Noicee

dreamcast will help ! and I tried
+Ty Grundy YEESSS!!!
SO glad you guys brought up Blood Will Tell, one of the true hidden gems of the PS2, and one of my favorite games on the console! Shadow Hearts too! I love that one as well, and the Judgement Ring battle system is probably my favorite in any JRPG.
Some of my other favorite exclusives are Haunting Ground and Siren. Both horror games. Haunting Ground ran on the Clock Tower 3 engine and was just fantastic. Siren is hard as nails and can feel a little clunky, but was genuinely creepy and intense. As a horror fan, Silent Hill is one of my favorite series, so of course Silent Hill 2 and 3 are some of my favorites as well, but SH2 wasn't exclusive.
Thank god you're back. I missed you guys
I prefer the old intro theme.. had a more 80s vibe with it's synth sounds in the background..
Throwing this out there, Odin Sphere is about FIVE different characters...Gwen is just the first section of the game.
Wow! I'm so glad to see you guys again! I haven't even watched the video yet; I just had to say I missed you guys. Hope you're break was restful and enjoyable! :)
Awesome vid! So great to have you guys back!
I had no idea Sega Rally 2006 even existed. Off to ebay!

The pressure sensitive buttons were the awesomest feature and I can't believe that they didn't make it into all future console controllers!!
Did not even know about it until I was well into my teens when I was more busy with the PS3. Probably why the ditched it, it's such a tiny feature almost nobody noticed it.
Thank you for mentioning Shadow Hearts! It's sequel, Covenant, is one of my favorite JRPGs ever! Because of it's vast library and backwards compatibility with the PS1, the PS2 is my personal favorite system of all time :)
Pretty nice review.... I do wish the hardware section was expanded a little. I think you could have dropped a few game reviews and spent more time talking about the hardware, the console wars at that point in time, the online aspect of the PS2 (FF X1 servers were just shut down) and the like. Either way, pretty good review and nice to see you guys back on youtube making more videos.

I am spreading the word I enjoy the fact that you point out obscure games
@Game Sack thank you for mentioning one of favorite underrated rpg's for the ps2.
Shadow hearts was amazing.
I have never got to complete it though.
Always got sidetracked with other things.
Thanks for giving recognition for this underrated gem😎👍
No, no, no. Thank YOU for making Game Sack.
So by your logic of the ps2 selling 155m only because of the cd scratch thing.. then the 360 only sold 90m cause of the rrod
I assume they were half joking by saying that.
I've had to replace pretty much every disc based console I've owned at least once due to malfunction except my PS4...and that's probably because I've only owned it for 6 months haha. Dave and Joe were obviously joking around but I don't think PS2 was any worse in terms of reliability than the xbox 360.
The final numbers for RROD are estimated to have cost Microsoft about $4-5bn for systems replaced under warranty, the rest is even less certain. People say that the fail rate for any none-slim 360's may be up to 40%.
I watched this day one but didn't have time to SAY GAME SACK GOOD TO HAVE YOU BACK!!! Normal Sunday service is resumed 👍
haven't watched the video yet and just by the intro i know its gonna be great, just lemme get a snack and ill continue watching!
