I am in south Florida. When I saw those birds, it gave me chills. We get bad hurricanes here, as you all know. One time, when a hurricane was a day or less away from hitting us, I was standing in the street and a black cloud of birds, thousands of them, suddenly appeared overhead, clouds of them, heading north, ahead of the storm. I wished I could have gone with them. I knew that day , that this storm was gonna be a bad one. It was.

This movie is great. Great acting, good directed, well written script and a good plot. What really puts the cherry on top is the fact that this is based on a real event that happend and will happen in a few years to come. It really interests me to think that this wave is so threatening that a whole town is going to be evacuated. It is also terrifying to think that it can make such an enormous chaos, and for me (who actually lives in norway) makes me wanna read all about the case. It is verry well animated and I really enjoyed watching this movie. It was extremely exciting to try to predict what would happen in the next scene. Bravo

Okay, i really hope I'm not the first one to say this but: have they considered NOT living 10 minutes from Oblivion? Like idk, live ANYwhere else. I've never been to Norway and I know there are many fjords, but I presume some of them are not in imminent danger of complete and total destruction.
Another possible solution comes to mind of ya'll REALLY don't want to move the town: build some water tight fallout shelters. I suppose they might be covered with debris but I believe the actual inundation will not last long. American families built fallout shelters all over the place during the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Most of them would provide negligible protection and then, only for as long as the food and water would last. I may be wrong but I think the most destructive forces would certainly dissipate within a few hours, bc this will be extremely devastating but only to a relatively small area.

I have seen the movie and it is worth catching. This is a well done film in every respect: script, direction, photography, acting, etc. about a fjord that is subject to periodic landslides resulting in local tsunamis every century or so. The scenario is well explained and makes one wonder why this village hasn't already been relocated to higher ground since it was destroyed in a similar incident in 1905. One of the better disaster films of recent years because it is very believable. Thanks for making this available.

Patriot Jefferson You call my statement insane, yet it is confirmed and made by the government. Have you even seen what Norway looks like? Norway isn't like flat like say America, whe have mountains and rugged terrain everywhere. Relocating in any way is completely impossible, are you even aware of the costs it would take? Because of this, we have developed a warning and monitoring system. This specific mountain is under 24hr surveillance. Trying to avoid landslides and avalanches in Norway is just as pointless as selling sand in Shara. The landslide can happen today, tomorrow or in 100 years. We can't just stop living.

    • @misterkami2

@@SJM6791 part of the story is based on a real event where a wave got to over 200 feet. At Geiranger, it is estimated that it might get to 260 feet when it happens. The difference with the asteroid tsunami scenario is that the Fjord is a relatively closed off bay and all the energy and displacement of the landslide has only one way to go.

What was interesting about this movie was that they state the wave would hit the town in 10 minutes. When the rock slide creates the wave it takes the water 10 onscreen minutes to reach the town, with the whole sequence playing out almost in real time.
This was a pretty good movie, although certain parts followed the disaster film formula a bit too closely. There was one scene that I thought was genuinely creepy though; no spoilers, but you'll know it when you see it.

The build up to the disaster had me on the edge of my seat, shouting at the TV and getting my poor dogs all upset.

People who are in tune with wildlife/domesticatd animals, ie: like the birds panicking, will usually have an upper edge for surviving whatever the disaster is. My dog reacts in ways that others' would find oddly annoying, but, I recognized this the last couple of times we had quake tremors where I live. The tremors were almost unnoticed by others, but people did report their animals acting strangely at those times. I love my dog! heh heh

Heather Mayhew No, you just simply can't move an entire village, not with the nature we have in Norway. Humans have lived here since the Stone Age. This tsunami is going to do damage to entire fjords connected to the Geriangerfjord, not just Geiranger. Over 6500 people live in the areas that will be completely wiped out. We're talking about entire municipalities. Places and borders that can never be relocated. The size of this landslide is so unreal, that the total mass, if transported by trucks, would stretch the distance between Geiranger and Singapore nearly 2 times (!). The problems and how they affect, would require us relocate half of the province. There's no solution other than monitoring the mountain.
