- Welcome back to another vivarium build! I can't say this is my favorite viv, but it looks much different than some of the others I've made over the years. This setup came with a lot of obstacles, but that allowed me to demonstrate new techniques that I haven’t shown yet. Of course you get a little update on the other two vivs from the conversion series as well, which are doing great.
CAUTION: If you ever end up using super glue, make sure that it is completely dry and that all of the fumes have dissipated before adding any inhabitants. If you follow the rule of not adding the inhabitants for awhile, you should be in good shape.

Hey everyone and welcome back to another vivarium build! What do you think? This setup came with a lot of obstacles, but that allowed me to demonstrate new techniques that I haven’t shown yet. Of course you get a little update on the other two vivs from the conversion series as well, which are doing great. Also, sorry for getting in a lot of the shots, it was pretty difficult to build in this space without blocking the camera. Usually I can film from the sides of the enclosure.
You're probably wondering when I'm going to stock these. I will be doing it probably in late summer. I want to finish a few looming projects first and I have to rearrange my room... again! I have some really unique things coming up.
Check the video description for additional links and as always thank you for watching! If you enjoyed this video please hit that

SerpaDesign Baby daddy your back
Hey, is acryl glass not prone to scratches?
do the plants survive if you just glue them to the wall?
UpperGoon there are some that are called air plants and they get their water from the humidity and also misting
SerpaDesign would it be okay to put a snake plant in this because i am planning on using this for a crested gecko and it would make a good hide spot and a dew drop collector
"Now i'm going to add some of the hardscape elements, which consist of some sticks." LOL I died.
A couple twigs
Perv
I like the fish zipping around speed zone in the background :P
I was just gonna say that😂
Omg How amazing is that? Such a talent, you're truly inspiring Tanner. I hope you enjoyed your vacation and thanks for this amazingly creative demonstration!
Wonderful video! I love your commentary. Also, you're very modest about your abilities, but rest assured that your vivariums are beautifully composed; you have a great eye for composition and natural symbiance.
Please never stop making these!!! I love your vivariums so much and I'm always so happy when another video comes out.
i can really tell how much respect you have for nature and it's so lovely to see! somehow it seems like your plants respect you too :)
can u make something like an orchid terrarium or a carnivorous plant terrarium?
Carnivorous plant terrariums are really hard to make, almost every carnivorous plant needs a couple hours of direct sunlight a day to survive/thrive. and where the tropical species need high temp and high humidity, the temperate species need lower temps and a dormant period during the winter at which the temps need to drop below 12C for the plants to survive. i have tried multiple times to make one, some succesful, some not. and even the ones where it was succesful they grew and survived but didnt thrive. now im keeping them in a bog garden outside year long and they are doing perfect :p
Been studying your terrariums and was also hoping for an orchid one too but will make do as i am starting mine this month and researching ideas and ways of doing it..back to your video..
Ooh yes
Bro you'd make hella guap if you'd make and sell tanks I'd be first in line too
Gee preston me too
Mhm
Single best vivarium build video I have ever seen. 👍👍👍
The coco fiber sides was brilliant. It also helps to hold humidity for more tropical animals!!!!
Wow! You are such an artist! I love it!!!!
Terrific job both making and filming this vivarium build.
differance between viv and terr?
00:12 Can we all just appreciate how happy these goldfish are?!
Wow, I mean... Wow... I've been heavily involved in the planted aquarium hobby for the last 4/5 years, & have been looking for something new... TYVM for inspiring me to enter this similar & yet completely different aspect of something I already love... And, just, wow... You have mad skills bro...
Wow! Just beautiful. The way you set it up brings the eye all the way around in a circle. It really flows.
it would be really cool to put a mantis in there
Nice job! I find that it takes about 6mos to a year before the tank is mature. So I like it sparse to start with or otherwise I am trimming like crazy down the road. I love the look of this rock background and may try this at some point. Thanks for the wonderful videos you create and I remain an avid fan :-)
Haha so true! That's kind of like what happened to the one in the middle, but I definitely like how it looks. You're welcome and thank you for supporting my channel!
I'm listening to lectures online so I have this video muted and on 1.5 speed, and every once in a while I see the fish tank in the background, but at 1.5 speed the fish are buzzing around like they're all hyped up on coffee and it's amazing. 10:05 (the tank is pretty impressive, too ;) )
Just found your channel!Going to have to binge watch your videos one day soon!
When I first came across Tanner's channel, I spent 4 hours watching his vids. I had square eyes by the time I'd done....but I was a lot more knowledgeable! :D
I think it looks beautiful. Especially with the other 2. All together they have a great balance to them. Really just lovely to look at.
What a great video! In the hermit crab community we use a lot of the same materials and concepts.
I think it looks sweet! surely will be greater when it grows in. I like that you used the husk fibers. I just built my first tank that has foam background and sides, but ran out of foam half way up sides so just siliconed, and added crushed coco fiber to its entirety after siliconing. came out fairly nice, especially for my first try, but the panels you used would have worked better. will use those in the future. superglue was surprising to see in this video, but definitely easy and something I will use in the future as well. thanks for posting!
Your Cold Blooded with it! Thanks for the tips and knowledge!
Amazing vivarium, also you were very eloquent when talking about nature! Totally agree :) take care and enjoy your vacation!
Hey bro. You’re about to explode in the rare plant community. I would suggest making vertical vivarium/terrariums specifically for plants! I just purchased a 40 breeder and an “I geckos” but now I’m not talented like you are and don’t know what type of materials used to make a safe vivarium for my rare plants, like anthuriums, philodendrons and Monsteras!!! Please make a video! I could definitely use your help on this project! Im thinking of add a Philo Melanochrysum, Philo Whote Princess, Monstera Albo Variegata and some other rare plants to just pop out more color!!!
Im so happy, I finally finished my first vertical vivarium!!!
I see why you have 61K subscribers. I had to sub. :-)
I like your approach to things and your humility when describing the beauty of nature.
This is my new favorite series! Can't wait to try this with a 20 for my gargoyle gecko! Needs a few tweaks for him to be perfect, but it's amazing and super helpful!!
Watching your videos inspired me to make a custom natural crested gecko enclosure! It's only half done right now, but by august it will be planted and starting its growth!
I think next time you do something like this, try to make all 3 of them look like 1 big one. Carry the background and hardscape through the glass. I think that would be pretty cool.
Great video....excellent tutorial. You demonstrate each step well....and explain every detail. Best tutorial I've seen on CZcams in a very long time.
That was a lot of work and it looks stunning!! Great job, man!
looks great can't wait to see an update
Excellent video. Thank you for explaining each step and naming all the plants you used. You did a great job. Love it!
Supernice! Love your channel! I get so inspired, doing a similar thing with ants on my channel soon!
Nordic Ants cool, When will you get done?
I watched it
Looks beautiful and natural. I'm amazed however how much glue goes into constructing a vivarium :)
I really want to make a paludarium set up and this has given me a great idea for a tank I have at the moment. Thank you
the diy part, just amazing!
congrats man this is great to watch
I came upon your video while I was looking at red eyed crocodile skink enclosures, I loved this, and I started to watch all the videos on your CZcams, you have an amazing talent. & I love your videos, I also love nature. I hope you do get to put a pet reptile in it.
I really like this one!! But it's hard to decide which one is my favorite, this one , or the middle one🤔. Anyway, they are beautiful!!!👍👍
I appreciate he effort you put into your filming
You are very in touch with nature Serpa, I wish your channel the best of luck!
As a request, please do a day gecko Vivarium build as my day gecko and I feel like he needs a MAJOR upgrade in his tank
Excellent project and video production.
Thank you for the tutorial! The design is really well done and I really like the coconut husk background. I'm going to be trying this.
You are so talented and creative. Love your channel!
You have a great eye for details.
Hi, I just discovered your channel, I saw this video on my homepage. I just want to say this video and your vivarium is amazing!!
I'm also a big animal lover and hope I can also build a couple vivariums my self one day. I'm sure your other creations are just as wonderful, will watch all your video's soon! ;)
Beautiful work, thank you!
Looks great! The tillandsias really bring it together
U just made my life so easy thank u. I was thinking of making a natural background but I didn't wanna use the foam or the foam spray I feel in a 12×12×18 its gonna take up to much space n gonna look even tighter. The cork fiber smart af
please do a carnivorous plant terrerium!
Working on it, a lot of people want to see that!
Awesome! thanks!
That would be really awesome! I recommend a rock wall background with cephalotus (Austrailian Pitcher plant) growing in it! Such a cool plant!
Absolutely beautiful triptic terrarium
wow thats insane.. the amount of time and effort needed..
so awesome!! cant wait to start working on a vivarium for my Whites Tree frog 🤗
I might have been able to make two vivariums if I had done this. The one 18x18x24" exo terra, for a crested gecko, I built cost over $750! That includes tank and a $80 four tiered wire rack and $120 for the lizard. Still, super super expensive. I doubt I ever would've gone through with it, or gotten a crested gecko, had I known what it would cost.
Now it needs a spider 😁. It's really beautiful looking
This one is going to be so beautiful. Love your work.
Gorgeous vivariums.! Inspiring. Thankyou for sharing. Cant wait to get creative with my insect and tarantula pet enclosures.
it is so cute what you said about arranging it in a way that's natural
WE NEED AN UPDATE ON THESE VIVARIUMS!!! Have they filled in well?
That super glue planting method is interesting. I can see how it's beneficial when trying to train a plant to grow onto your hardscape, but for the life of me I can't understand why you didn't just use wire staples when attaching the creeping fig to the coco fiber. It looked like you had to deal with gluing your skewer in place a few times, among other issues, like waiting for the glue to dry between applications. Is there another benefit to this method that I'm perhaps just not getting?
I'd be interested to see some videos on humidity control & ventilation. My first dart frog vivarium has been planted for about a week now, and it's clear that my 1.5" wide vent along the back is insufficient to achieve cycles of humidity- it easily remains near 100% down near the floor, but I'd like to see it drop to 60-70% between mistings. So now I have ordered a muffin fan and a humidistat controller that I hope will solve the issue. Since hygrometers are notoriously unreliable _within_ a misted environment, I intend on running the fan based on the humidity _outside_ of the vivarium, and it will blow outside air in provided the humidity in the room is at least _n_%. Please stop me if you think this may be a mistake!
This might sound weird but I find your videos super relaxing! Super impressive with your plant knowledge, do you mind if I ask what you studied?
You should try keeping chameleons. They are great display animals and looks gorgeous in terrariums. If you make ventilation on the bottom and on the top, it will be enough. I successfully keep panther chams like that in planted glass vivariums. I would love to see you building chameleon vivarium.
I've considered it, but I don't know if it's something I would do just yet. Maybe some day!
Im going to try and do a paludarium using a 20 gallon. Have me a bunch of good ideas. Keep at it man great vids
Very nice video on how to do it yourself ! I think in time it gonna look awesome like the other tanks! Keep up the nice work :)
Really pretty, would make a great lizard terrarium with a screen fitted in the front!
One of the better vids like this I have seen to date!
Haha thanks! I have a much better version coming out this year.
I would love to see an update
Great job, thank you for your videos.👍
You are one talented man, amazing work.👍
youre so amazing at what you do!! keep up the good work 👌
Very nice I have a nook that would look great in!
Amazing video and amazing viv!
One more question. I need clearer instructions on how to place glass doors if I turn it vertically.
I haven't slept in 24 hours and I have to move into my new place later today. I'm gonna finish this video regardless.
This one looks like a great grow out tank for a young crested gecko ;)
Sweet Christmas!
Awesome build! You should get some disposable gloves for when you are working with silicone or other glues. PPE!
I am kinda jealous, I would never be able to do such a awesome vivarium :D
That's because you have it set in your mind that you can't. I have been making these things for quite awhile. It's all in practice.
great work. Love the sets of 3!
One more to go!
Amazing! Beautiful! So crafty....inspiring....
Another great build!!
This guy deserves more subs
You are such a good wholesome boy and I love you.
I was confident in exo terra, so I didn't check to see if the 18x18x24" tank for my crested gecko was watertight either. Big mistake. It didn't start leaking until about a week after I had it up and running, sigh. I wasn't about to tear down the complicated bioactive vivarium it took so dang long to build. Now it just leaks, into a little tub on the shelf directly beneath the tank. It's been leaking less since I began to not water it so thoroughly. Seems like the leak might be closing up due to some type of organic growth. I believe the amount of water I WAS adding actually hindered the growth of many of my plants, even though it caused no root rot. Anyway...check your tanks for watertightness, people!
If anyone was wondering what the specific tillandsia used is, it’s Tillandsia oaxacana (I think)
Can't wait to see it all grown in, this looks like it will be stunning in a few months! I'm sure it's been asked before, but couldn't find the answer: would you ever house cresties in any of these enclosures? (Also, rock on, you're the best)
4:51 If I found a bag of those I'd probably try to eat them
You are my favorite poet!
Awesome series! Learned alot and got me inspired!!
I would love to see some update with all your vivarium :)
I will do one at some point soon when I finish up the conversion series.
Wish you were my neighbor. You are so talented.
I truly love your work. My grandson of 12 and I are planning on trying to build one for poison dart or arrow frogs.
I am researching and needing advice on how much work and how often a week to do all the little things, like growing isopods and wingless fruitflies, to keep a steady healthy supply. I have watched you quite a bit and wonder if you have a book or written instructions for the care of these tanks and little creatures and the cost of the book or papers. Or if you could send me to a place I can get it or speak to someone not worried about a sale as much as guiding someone with true knowledge. Thank you bunches.
You are so incredibly talented. I also live in western PA in the Pittsburgh suburbs (South Park) and I would pay well if you could make a vivarium for my Spotted Salamander, Nigel. They like to burrow but also climb on stuff. I have been trying to make it somewhat bioactive by adding 30 isopods and a few small worms dusted in calcium for food, but if you want to get in touch with me just reply to this comment and we can exchange contact info. I would make it well worth your while. Right now he is living in a 10 gallon tank as he is still smallish (5-5 inches long, give or take including his long tail). I might upgrade to 15 or 20, but this is the first salamander I've decided to keep long term and I'm willing to go out of my way to spend more to make him happy. There are no obligations of course. You're a really nice and talented guy and that's how i want to turn out. I want to have springtails, isopods, worms for him to dig to and eat, etc. He is fine now, but I feel like it could get nasty without a false bottom. Essentially I would give you free reign to do what you do and then pay you for time and materials (you can also give me a list of materials you want me to purchase)... but yeah I want some plants and a true bioactive set-up. My facebook is under the same name and instead of me there's a picture of my sally, if you'd like to add me. That way we can stay in touch easier. I know you're busy though but if you get the time, let me know what you think. It would essentially be a project funded by me where you can do whatever you want with it so long as he has good burrowing soil and some hides. Would love to hear from you. Take care :).
Wow... this is beautiful
Nice build! Where do you get the bulkheads and flow valves for it?
How do you light the tops if they're glass? I need the inside of mine to reach 85 degrees or so.
Can I just cut that side of the silicone, pull off the panel and attach chicken wire? Or does pulling off a panel take away from the foundation?
Looks so sick, great job
Awesome video work and nice setup with good instructions for a DIY. This would be fun. I don't know still if I'd put in superglue. It's just the one so un-natural thing that changes it when you merge with living things. You could just weave the ficus plant through the ground and along the sticks. You never know if feeder crickets will feed on it or the plant. It could potentially get into the stem of the plant. I once experimented with a photos, blue food coloring, and a syringe. You'll quickly transform, but kill the plant. Anyway I doubt there is much harm or risk but it's more work and not work even a slight risk if you can do without and keep it as natural as possible.
Like I said in the video it has been used in aquariums for years. I suppose I understand the concern, but it has been proven to be safe. Also I don't typically use it, just wanted to show an alternative method.
I love this! Very Nice Job
