  • UFC 276 Adesanya vs Cannonier took place and was supposed to be the big PPV card of the year, but it flopped at the PPV buys, just 400k sales world wide, such a disappointment for the UFC and I wonder how they will consider fixing this problem, let me know what you guys think below.

    Scale The PPV price to change depending on the quality of the card, UFC 277 and UFC 276 are in no way worth the same amount of money. I think the Disney/ESPN era of PC friendly and inclusive stars are just not working for the sport, same story with most companies that take that route, no swearing at a press conference? what? We want violence, we want aggression during build ups, and we want fiery heated verbal exchanges at press conferences. Sabatello got fined for his post fight speech against Stots, it was the most interesting Bellator moment of the past ten years. Our companies are working against their success for an image.

    I still maintain that $80 for PPV is absolutely ludicrous, especially when consumers really have no idea what they're gonna get. On paper the UFC 276 main card was supposed to be entertaining, but instead we got one of the most boring main cards of the year. If they are really worried about PPV sales, they really need to start considering lowering their cost; I would suggest halving it to around $40. I think that's way more reasonable than paying almost $100 for something that could likely disappoint, especially when it's so easy to illegally stream.

    First off, the UFC ppv have taken a big hit since ESPN decided to raise the price. Dana was upset with this at the time, especially considering the price of everything has gone up. Buying a UFC ppv is a luxury.
    2nd and this a big one, ESPN’s numbers are way down across the board. It’s been widely reported in the media how ESPN has been taking a serious hit in viewership, across the board.
    3rd is another reason I’m not going to publicly say. But there was an ingredient, just one of multiple factors in the UFC’s sucesss that was also a contributing factor to boxings decline.
    The thing that often “sells fights” is the belief a potential dominant fighter will lose or will be challenged. That’s always been the case, which is why the UFC fast tracking Pereira, Jones will do bigger numbers but he was NEVER a ppv star. The ufc was doing bigger PPV numbers with GSP over a decade ago. GSP who was a dominant fighter, but not exciting or talk trash, was their biggest ppv star and many of his records weren’t broken until Mcgregor came. Think about that. Izzy isn’t doing GSP numbers a decade later. He’s not doing Liddell numbers if I’m being honest. His fight with Tito did well over a million buys. The UFC’s biggest ppv stars were first Liddell, Brock Lesner, GSP, Ronda Rosey and Mcgregor. Anytime people talk about who’s a “star” I remind people who the actual stars were historically for the UFC. You have to mention the illegal streaming, that has to be a factor.

    You hit the nail on the head there when you mentioned that most of the top fighters are forced to trash talk. Seemed very obvious with Cannonier in the last press conference. • @forwardmoving8252
      @forwardmoving8252 Před rokem +9

      UFC sucks at promoting. If they wanted to promote their fighters they wouldn't put such a barrier in front of potential fans to watch those fighters FIGHT. They aren't comedians or actors. Athletes in other sports get fame and recognition just for being skilled. Personality is a bonus in other sports, but in the UFC it's everything because they SUCK at promoting their fighters so the fighters have to do all of their own promo by talking trash and starting controversies. If They had brains they'd be posting highlights and full fights online for free all of the time, but that's behind another paywall you have to have on top of paying for ppvs.

      @lmonk9517 Před rokem +7

      @@forwardmoving8252 ONE championship is a good example of a promotion that really knows how to hype up it's roster. They why they are always putting put highlights, full fights and other engagement on their socials. The way that they don't promote trashtalk but instead focus on the martial arts background and nationality of the fighters to promote them. IF they don't have a TV deal with a country then that country can watch the fights for free on youtube. ONE has more online fan engagement than the UFC which is crazy considering how much bigger the UFC is on paper.
      Then you look at the live shows. The way that the fighters in ONE (like pride) have fancy walk ins, the way that there is no limit on bonuses and the way that the commentators never talk down about a fighter really make the fighters seem important. they can make a 7-6 record journeyman seem like a elite contender just through the language used. I will also say that the lack of advertising during the show also helps them focus on the fighers and the fights more so than any other promotion. UFC it's boring walkouts, commentators who take the piss, tweets on the screen, and an advert every 5 seconds.

    At the end of the day the main promo they’ll run is usually for the main/Co-main event. Sure you can put up and coming guys with big names on the card as well but that only goes so far. Always has been like this UFC 178 headlined by DJ had Conor vs Dustin on it and t only did 200k. PPV buys require big anticipated matchups in the main event, I bought the PPV cause of Volk but I did not care about the Adesanya fight at all I actually thought about not even watching it cause I already knew it was gonna be a boring. I think other people know this now about Izzy that he’s not gonna bring any type of excitement ever in his fights. Dana didn’t even show up to “the biggest card of the year” This year has just been a slow year for the UFC compared to last year where it seemed every PPV was madness (other than 265) Masvidal Colby was a big matchup but it was just cringe and we kinda knew Colby would just control him in the grappling.

    People don't have to win to fill out seats, when Cowboy fights we wanna see it, and older audiences are attracted to people who are themselves and are genuine, funny people, like Hooker or Tuivasa. So with this in mind, here is who the UFC SHOULD promote:
    FLW: Moreno, Figi, Kara-France and Kape
    BW: Sandhagen, O'Malley, Yan, Vera, Aldo and Yanez
    FW: Mitchell, Yair, Volk, Max, Kattar, Burgos and Allen
    LW: Oliveira, Gathje, Chandler, Poirier, Hooker, Gamrot, Tsarukyan, Makhachev, Turner, McGregor, Ferguson, Fiziev and Green
    WW: Luque, Burns, Jorge, Shavkat, Chimaev, PEREIRA and Colby
    MW: Pereira, Whittaker, Vettori, Strickland, Munhiz, Du Plessis and Curtis
    LHW: Jiri, Jan, Craig, Ankalaev, Hill, Walker?, Crute, Glover and Jacoby
    HW: Tuivasa and Aspinall, Those are some future stars.
    SW: Weili
    WFLW: O'Neil and Fiorot
    WBW: Idk Viera?
    WFW: Delete Division, if not, Dumont.

    The reality is, that PPV numbers are important BCS it decides the future of the sport. The S-tier men, Chads of Chadderon, won't become UFC fighters if they can use their talent and supreme genes in sports that pay way better and make them more popular.
    There are some tough, dangerous sports out there, where 18-year-olds get paid 10s of millions. MMA fighters are just rejects from other sports, or just genuinely rejects in life in general.

    • @25taylorkw
      @25taylorkw Před rokem

      In the terms of pay, this is one of the reasons why UFC should give the fighters a bigger percentage of the organization's revenue so these S-tier men / Chads of Chadderon would be more likely to come into the UFC to compete as the premier elite fighters. Not to mention that the UFC need to take notes from how One Championship does in certain areas.
      More specifically One Championship does a better job than the UFC in terms of how the organization promotes the fighters, how they make a weight cutting rule that bans cutting water weight with also having the fighters fight at their natural weight class, having a ruleset that incentivize the fighters to be more engaging in the action while still fighting technical, how the commentators present the fighters, how they do fighters entrances is like Pride FC, and how affordable the fights are to viewers with also how accessible the fights are to viewers ( especially with the Amazon Prime video deal that One Championship has ).
