"Most metal non-metal album" is the best way to describe this album I've heard
Even more “most metal non-metal” than early swans?
Exactly, I loved it because I too felt metal af listening to this. also, funny that the guy mentioned it, got some swans vibes
I told my friend who suggested this album to me that on my own time I listen to all metal genres quite a bit and her screams made me fucking squirm
Malachy it some how still seems metal to me lol.
Cyber Tune I think those parts are metal. Some of it sounds like sunn o or ambient black metal when she screams
You only gave it a 9 because she made an album that is great.
Wait he actually did
Shit man, you cracked the code. They gonna be coming for you
Clear bias
And to put Igor at #3 just cuz he’s black
He would give it a 10 if it was called perfecto
I haven't heard of lingua ignota before but if the flannel's yellow I'll say hello
May I steal this
Hello.
Dooowit. She's a little rude though
he already did a few track reviews for her
give All Bitches Die a try too
Hayter's work is largely reflective of her experience as a domestic violence survivor and that's part of what makes her music so powerful.
Was looking for someone to mention this.
oh really? I thought ”Satan fortify meeee” was her expressing her utmost joy
Which makes things weird with it being released on Profound Lore, with their history with Leviathan etc.
Thank you for mentioning this. I'm very glad that Melon reviewed this and is therefore bringing more attention to the project, but even the most basic amount of research (or maybe just reading into the lyrics a tiny bit more) would have shown him that the album (and the project in general) is about surviving domestic violence and abuse, and even a form of acting out revenge against her abuser (and the abusers of many other women). Still, good on him for reviewing it - and for realising it's not a metal album (as many other reviewers seem to think it is), as well as for the 9.
Listening to "Do You Doubt Me Traitor?" and holy fuck the energy is unreal. So much emotion. Her anger, fear, hatred, disgust, and desperation all come through, somehow. I've never listened to anything like this. I consider myself to have pretty wide-ranging tastes but this has really opened my eyes (my ears?). This music is sad and solemn and violent and angry and sincere and beautiful and I'm about 5 minutes in to the second track.

Sounds like some evil cyberpunk shit
Wish he'd explain what these complex genres are. Or just use more common terms
i wouldnt know the term either but you know that he spends a ton of time talking about what the album sounds like, right? 10 minutes and 45 seconds, in fact. i'm guessing that genre sounds something like what he described for 10 minutes

This album is meant to take the listener through the cycles of abuse as experienced by hayter within a relationship.

Hey buddy, did you hear the news? He did a track review
I hope acts like Lingua Ignota and Uboa are leading this new type of dark ambient that just bleeds that gothy, tortured, primal aura metal’s been soaking in for the past musical era.
Or maybe this style has existed for a long time, and I’m just now finding out about it :).
Regardless, to me, these acts seem so cutting edge in a way that makes my soul rend. I am very excited for what comes out of this scene in the future.
The main artists behind Lingua Ignota and Uboa have gone through some really difficult times. I'm not sure how thrilled they would be to hear that what they do could be a part of a scene.
I get what you mean though, it's music that feels overwhelming and vital. And I'm sure the artists themselves have a complicated relationship with their art since it comes out of such terrible circumstances.
Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to hear more people taking on this style. I think music fans focus too much on the content of the music and not enough on the artist. They need to be ok too.
The second half of MAY FAILURE BE YOUR NOOSE is one of the most incredible things I've ever heard.

You should check out Puce Mary, her shit is like an even more intense version of this.
Dude.
This is easily strong 9 to perfect 10.
i personally think that there wasn't enough justification for not giving it a higher score. A low 9 is obviously still a fantastic score, but an album that manages to be lyrically and conceptually brilliant, whilst still being moving, ethereal, and even catchy upon sound alone deserves a decent to high 9 at the very least. There really isn't a bad track, and there really isn't a bad performance, and there really isn't anything wrong with it, outside of personal taste. It's one of the most deeply moving and visceral works of art I've ever experienced, and we seem to share a lot of the same opinions outside of score, which confuses me. great video though, and opinions are opinions, I'd just like to hear any imperfections with the album that there are.
I think the first half is magnificent, truly an experience, but at the second half, the "calm before the storm" even though it was musically incredible as itself, but if we were judging a record, how strong the purpose, the expression and the flavor affect to the experience that has other tracks have something to do about, i would say the "calm" in the second half was a bit too undefined, hard to intrepret into a truly sorrowness like how she did with the piano ending of "may failure be your noose", second half didnt really make a strong enough reach to the climax as well as making clear of what the rest is going to be about from the beginng, so it falls below the raw impact we get from before.
But honestly, this is to being extremely unfairly nitpicking, every flaw there is in this album possible can not ever go too bad.
@@xevino833 you have a decent point, but i when you say the "calm" are you referring to tracks like sorrow sorrow sorrow and fucking deathdealer? cause in that case, it cant be understated the amount of absolutely visceral and exploding sounds of tracks like day of tears and mourning, spite alone, i am the beast, even if the poison wont take you. sort of like saying to be kind sucks because of some things we do, or ywgwyw sucks because of less sex. the beauty in those types of tracks is how they compliment the music surrounding them, and how the tracks stand immensely well on their own purely on the merit of their incredible lyrical quality, song writing, and just general beauty and feelings the songs convey. i do see how that can be taken as a complaint, but i mean it is sort of nitpicky, and doesn't really have much strength in an argument against the album imo. tell me if i misunderstood something though, cause i feel like saying side b is the worst part of the album is blasphemous as fuck
@@treycoomes5447 Very true, a spiritual journey needs its sonical spectrum, being open towards a wider range of emotions through music is wonderful. Your swans comparison made a very compelling point. If I were to score this, I'd definitely give it a strong 9.
@@xevino833 of course. i personally believe it to be a genuine 10, which i definitely do not say lightly. but honestly, a strong 9 and a 10 aren't ridiculously different. it just comes down to different ways of perceiving an album. i just genuinely think it perfectly nailed what it was trying to do. i don't see any flaws that can be fixed nor mishaps that can be removed. every track, every sound, every lyric, every performance, it all perfectly contributes to the overall message, feel, flow, and downright dumbfounding beauty that is the album Caligula.
