    Built mine with same drive train. (650B wheels/48mm tires) It was great. Tried 700c wheels/42mm tires, never went back. great ride! Ritchey Venture max carbon bars also very comfy!

    Grx 800 build should be a good for the ritchey Outback. Was going that way if a full new bike, till my the bike from from team friend. Di2 is dream build for me. Thinking sram axs for 2x as no fd cable routing on down tube. Or get frame cable hose clamps made by some small bike parts makers just found looking around the net and use the spare sram 2x shifter from the retired road frame on my new barely used CX demo bike to get off of 1x. Maybe get the grx cross top/MTB hydro brake levers as well as extra braking point or hand rest. Hard to find or slow to come to market after the initial press releases.

    On gravel I'm using the Zipp XPLR flared handlebar. It's a very mild flare but my wrists appreciate. Also using the Canyon VCLS seatpost, I was skeptical but it seems to work well.

    I run 46/30 and 11/34 GRX and love it.
    I believe your 48/31 setup will allow you to achieve 45-48km/h at 80-90 cadence, which should be plenty fast enough on pavement I would think….
    I run the GRX 600 shifters and believe the feel is extremely close to that if Ultegra. I believe that it’s a great touring/ bike packing groupset, especially it’s the 11/36 & 11/40 cassettes that some people have fitted…
    Another vote for the Zipp XPLR flared bars. I run 44 & 46 cm versions, great on my road bike too. The flare isn’t too dramatic but is indeed anatomically well designed…

    It must be pretty exciting to build your bike from the frame. I remember reading that many years ago (probably in the steel frame era) it was very common to build up ypur own bike
    I’ve got a Caad 10 frame ready to build up. Finally got a matching fork for it. Gonna start building it up soon. Probably gonna use used and NOS 10 speed Shimano groupset, and the rest will come off my Caad9 because it has really nice bar, stem, seatpost, saddle, and wheels (1550gr). That stuff will easily carry over.

    HED Emporia wheels are great in aluminum - cause are out there. GRX mech great choice, and agree 2x. I can’t get enough gears for steep fire roads. So FYI GRX can do 34, 36 (SRAM) or 40 (XT) on same chain with just B screw adjustment. Bummer you have so many back orders.

Also do you have a maiden race/event scheduled for the new bike once it is finished?

      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Před rokem

      Hello Chris thank you for being a consistent viewer/commentator and generally such a great supporter of my channel and brick and mortar business.
      Even as a mechanic I sometimes get sucked in to watching those build videos myself 😂 the challenge is time and not having interruptions at the shop. Then the editing and deary me the choice of music. Plus just like my how-to videos there’s always one with vile criticism of how I am holding a torque wrench or something trivial that has no impact on the overall build quality, safety or functionality of the end product.
      Hmm… maiden race or voyage? I’ve always wanted to ride the length of California and scale up to the length of the West Coast. Those are big dreams but maybe something local will have to suffice until then 🤣🤣

  • @thomaskuhn6541
    @thomaskuhn6541 Před rokem

    I completely agree with your comments regarding no obvious signs at this time of huge bike/parts oversupply and price discounting. More still a case of limited supply from what I've seen. A lot of "experts" almost make it sound like the bike companies are getting ready for a fire sale this year.
    I love my GRX but mine is Di2, same crank and cassette as what you have. I was initially concerned about spinning out on pavement with the 48 but it hasn't been an issue, I run the 40C Maxxis Receptors. I'm guessing you'll be fine as well given the tires you are going with, I assume it's the knobby Oracle Ridge and not the smooth Hatcher Pass that you've ordered from RH.
    My GRX brakes bug me a bit because they require much more adjustment than my old SLX MTB brakes. Those I adjust and they're good for almost the whole season.

    Build is gunna come together nicely! I love the look of white industries cranks, and I love supporting a local company so that might be the only thing I’d add. Thank the lord, a pair of aluminum wheels on a gravel bike like god intended 😂

      Hello Ian! Besides the look of the White Industries cranks. Are there any functional advantages as to why a rider would use them? I would concede the GRX cranks are meh 🫤 when it comes to looks 😂
      And yes as often as possible I will ride alloy wheels on my bikes. Especially for gravel it doesn’t make sense to hit a rock with a $2000 wheelset

    My lbs still has shortages of components, cockpits that are in the sweet spot, but I've sadly watched a couple of our excellent road specialty shops shut their doors here in Vancouver, so some inventory transactions from those stores helped my lbs with sweet spot bikes.
    What about the extra 50mm Q factor on the GRX crank? Will you find that takes getting used to?
    Love that you'll probably get that build under 24 lbs.thx

    Would br nice to spec it out with what Ritchey is using, this is a special edition but you just dressing it up with Shitmano. There are so many others options from Mircoshift to FSA etc Just my opinion, let’s not all be sheep to one manufacturer.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Před rokem +1

      Shimano works that’s why I use it. I don’t like SRAM because it’s shit. I don’t like Campy. So why would I go down a several tiers to Microshift and FSA?
      Your comment doesn’t make practical sense. Think before you post. It has nothing to do with being sheep. It has to do with quality, exceptional customer service and warranty coverage with no questions asked. Try that with the other products you mentioned. You get tied up in red tape and never get your issue resolved. Ride Shimano because it works especially if you’re out in BFE you want reliability on your bike.
