    In this video, we discuss how to upgrade to Windows 11 using MECM. This can happen within the same operating system, without losing data. There are multiple ways to upgrade: manually using setup.exe, a Feature Update package, or simply using the task sequence. I prefer using the task sequence method as I have more granular control. In part two of the video, I would demonstrate the process of upgrading on both supported and unsupported hardware. Subscribe to be notified for the next video!

    kindly let me know how to revert back to original (Windows 10 working state) if any issue during upgrade (Upgrade from Windows 10 21H2 to Windows 11) requires any enablement pack or Windows 10 Enterprise ISO

      Hello, you must go through the Settings app to do a rollback. However, if there is an issue, the setup will automatically do a rollback.
      See more information here: windowsreport.com/rollback-windows-11/
      However, this method is going to be obsolete. I made it a bit more simpler using an ADR and a PostOOBE script using SetupConfig.ini. I plan to make a video next month about it.

      You can use the command-line DISM /Online /Initiate-OSUninstall /NoRestart, and then do a restart step in the OS, and that should rollback. Be aware that you have ten days, or the rollback feature will be lost.

      Hi!
      I'm not going to share the complete task sequence as this is part of our real-world production. However, as I mentioned in the the video, MECM will create the same template with most of the steps already configured. More information about the task sequence template can be found here: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/osd/deploy-use/create-a-task-sequence-to-upgrade-an-operating-system?source=recommendations

    How can you do it via an application?

    • @Herc08
      @Herc08  Před rokem

      Hi Tanti!
      So it would be a little tricky, but you can create a PowerShell script to create a start up scheduled task that will call the setup.exe with some unattended arguments. Then you could force the application to restart, and once the system boots back up, the task will kick off. The thing is, you would only be doing the default setup. If you don't care about it, fine. But I find that using a task sequence would give out the most flexibility, and do the cleanest install. It would also help with any rollbacks if necessary.
