I use an x army DPM jacket does the job 2 pockets at front for live and empty cartridges and better looking also good for field
As an American, I always thought that rear pocket was for carrying the birds you've shot. They're advertized as washable here.
This is an old video but do they carry seeland in the US?
What do I actually need a vest for though?
If I can handle the recoil and have a ammo bandolier or pouch is it just a nicety?
Probably tradition as well. The same with people that dress up for a game day. A pair of tracksuit bottoms and an old jacket will do just as well but to show respect to the game owner and to follow tradition you make an effort and come in your " Sunday best".

I thought the same thing. After getting serious about shooting clays as a hobby I learned that a Vest is a must for any serious clay shooter.

@@DaSpineLessFish Because a shooting range is not the O.K. Corral and you are not going there to fight the Earps or rob a bank.
There is a certain amount of etiquette that must be observed. More so in the UK than the US, but still. Not to mention that a Sporting clays tourney has 100-200 targets and carrying that much ammo on your body is not practical.
