    GET TO KNOW YOUR TEACHER LIZ
    ===============================================
    NAME:- Elizabeth (Liz)
    WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS? - I am a Cambridge CELTA and the more advanced DELTA qualified English Teacher. I also trained in Speech & Drama at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) and LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts).
    I am also a featured author on Macmillan Dictionary's One Stop English's website. www.onestopenglish.com/commun...
    WHERE DO YOU LIVE? - England (UK)
    HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 5 WORDS? - ‘Outwardly innocent, but inwardly knowing’.
    WHERE IS THE MOST INTERESTING PLACE YOU'VE TAUGHT? - That would be a one-to-one in a young Italian man’s flat in southern Italy. When he invited me to teach him at his home, I stupidly thought that Mamma would be there cooking the lunch, but no, it was a bachelor pad and no sign of Mamma! I eventually left having learned more about Italian customs than he had learned English!
    BEST TEACHING MOMENT? - One of my greatest achievement was when a couple of very naughty teenage Belgian students were sent here to England to learn English. They had been expelled from several schools in their own country and this was their last chance to prove themselves. After a few months of playing around in different levels, and coming close to being expelled again, they eventually ended up in my FCE class. Now they had two chances - respect their teacher and learn something or go back to Belgium. Well, they did go back to Belgium but not before they had passed their FCE! They became my two favourite students of all time. I love a challenge!
    HOW MANY STUDENTS HAVE YOU TAUGHT? Over 10 thousand
    WHAT'S YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING TEACHER MOMENT? - It happened during a DELTA observed lesson. One of my students happened to suffer from Tourette’s syndrome. Of course, I had no reason to worry, I had mentioned the fact in my lesson plan, and anyway, this student had never caused a problem before. However, today was different. Very different. Upon eliciting the required information from him - not wanting to leave him out - instead of answering the question in his usual fashion, he suddenly exhumed a torrent of swear words from somewhere deep within himself. After this cathartic experience he looked very pleased with himself but, unfortunately, this was not really the answer I was looking for. Everything went quiet, I looked over at the examiner who looked rather shocked. It certainly wasn’t your run-of-the-mill DELTA exam! BUT I passed!

    Great Job, Liz! What I like most in your explanations of such kind is that you cap them off with funny stories, so people can not only practice separate sounds and words, but listen them in real speech, i.e. with rhythm, intonation, wonderful smile and tons of your charisma.

      Wow, thank you Ihori! I am trying to give complete lessons, as I would in the classroom. The trouble is that too many people come to CZcams wanting to find a 'quick fix' to learning and do not realise the value of a complete lesson. They prefer 'Learn English While You Sleep' 😂 channels. So anything you can do to 'spread the word' would help enormously 😀 . Have a great week 💚

      @@EnglishwithLiz About "Learn While You Sleep" there was a real story of my friend's Dad. Before going to Japan for a while he decided to put under his head two huge volumes of the Big Japanese-Russian dictionary instead of a soft pillow. All he had got was a neck pain in the morning. As for the vocab, it remained the same 0. 😂

    That was so useful and practical. I really appreciate you. I have a question about the ŋ sound. When you pronounce the words including ŋ sound, you sometimes just pronounce a sound like "n", whilst you sometimes pronounce a sound like "ng"! For example, when you pronounced the word "angry" I heard you added the g sound! It's very questioning for me!

    • @EnglishwithLiz
      @EnglishwithLiz  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi Jason. In answer to your question, if ng is followed by a voiced consonant like angry, you need to say the g sound as well. If the ng is followed by an UNvoiced consonant, like s in the word 'shillings' you don't. Love💗 &peace✌️

    • @JasonWebber1
      @JasonWebber1 Před 5 měsíci

      Thank you for your response. I sometimes hear English native speakers even British with an RP accent say "n" instead of "ŋ" while they speak fast. Am I wrong, or is it just a way to speak relaxedly?

      Hi Mahmoud. There are many good dictionaries like the Oxford or the Cambridge, but I prefer the Macmillan Advanced Learner's dictionary as I like the star rating they give to words, which indicates how popular and well used the words are. Very useful. You are not the first student to ask for a recommendation, so I think I will contact Macmillan and see if they will offer a discount code and put it on my channel. I Good luck with your studies 😀 👩‍🎓

      Yes, but what you have to remember is that we are looking at the phoneme /n/, not the actual spelling of knee. The phonemic spelling of knee is /ni:/, so the k is silent. Hope that helps ❤️ & 🕊
