Impressive Quality: Hyte Y60 Case Review & Benchmarks vs. O11 Dynamic

  • This is one of the most unique cases we've reviewed in a while. The Hyte Y60 is of high build quality, but also missteps in several key ways. Still, the Y60 does new things in the case market.
    Sponsor: EVGA X570 Dark: geni.us/C8Tq
    Hyte is owned by iBUYPOWER, but the difference is that the Hyte team is actually making things that -- thus far -- don't fall apart if they're looked at wrong. Hyte has to establish itself on its own brand credibility and it started with the Revolt 3. Now, Hyte is selling the Y60 ATX case for water cooling builds (although air cooling builds can also work here). There are several potential pitfalls or shortcomings in the case for specific builds, but as long as you choose the right parts to synergize with it and build in the correct order, the Hyte Y60 makes for an interesting and unique case. Build quality was overall excellent, with shortcomings mostly in filters, airflow, and build order (or ease of installation). Even with those negatives, the Y60 is one of the best ATX cases we've reviewed lately.

      Wouldn’t it make more sense for gaming to simply water cool Gpu and leave cpu air cooled?
      I mean during gaming cpu hardly see load where Gpu 100% loaded much heat. At least water cooling Gpu bulk of that heat gone out of case thru rad leaving cpu and everything else much cooler in case.
      I think in the future will see more of hybrid cooling from manufacturers due to power consumption from newer gen cards. Air cooling will only go so far in a case unless fans are maxed out with Gpu cards creating all this heat.

    just built in this. I see a few things that I'd change.
    1) the top rad tray has the clearance to slide forward a couple inches. The case is notched out to accept it, but the tray doesn't line up with the screw holes. 4 extra holes would allow the rad hoses to be rear mounted instead of only at the front.
    2) the HDD sleds take up a lot of space, and the screws are offset, so you can only mount them one way. If you could flip them or even remove the tray from the rear blank(cover) that would give you a lot more room.
    3) The bottom fans have the cord connected at the side of the fan instead of the corner like most fans. This means the case has a hole that lines up with the hyte fans and not aftermarket. Also the screws for the bottom fan could be an extra 2mm in length. The popular Arctic P14 fans are a hair too thick to mount without aftermarket screws.
    4) the cutout for the rear I/O plate on mine was a mm to large top to bottom. Also (visual only) I think the small opening above the vertical GPU screws on the rear of the case could use one of those little sliding panels to finish it off.

    • @giglioflex
      @giglioflex Před 2 lety +13

      There would be no point. As steve noted in the review, the factors that impact air cooling also impact liquid cooling. If there is obstruction to airflow, it will obstruct rad fans as well.

    • @gamingmarcus
      @gamingmarcus Před 2 lety +12

      @@giglioflex The question is to what degree. A radiator already is a huge obstruction. Does a little more plastic really make a meaningful difference or will the static pressure optimised fan simply bruteforce through it?
      That's not a general statement you can make. Radiator thickness would probably have a much bigger influence than anything else. But I don't know how much of a difference radiator thickness makes either.

      @giglioflex Před 2 lety +2

      @@popotoproductions3015 Steve pretty clearly pointed out that while you can get lower temps on liquid, you can do that for any case and in this situation you aren't getting around the issue but merely brute forcing. Steve specifically stated that the liquid cooling performance would likely be less than a majority of other cases using liquid cooling due to the obstruction presented by this case.
      I don't know why people seem to believe this case, with more obstruction, is going to perform better with liquid cooling than other cases with less obstruction that are also using liquid cooling. As I provided in my link, as you increase static pressure (which is what obstructions do), you reduce the amount of air being pushed by the fan. It doesn't matter if that fan is balanced for airflow or a high end rad fan, the airflow will reduce as the static pressure inches slower to the fan's rated static pressure.

    It’s a looks focused case. A real shame that they didn’t make a removable bracket for the PCI E expansion slots so you could have one bracket for this vertical mount and one bracket for normal horizontal. I know it would cost more but when the darn thing is already $200ish you might as well do it and bump it up another $10

    I design and build DIY PCs inside custom cabinets. This case could be insane but some heavy modification is definitely needed. I would just remove the plastic top, bottom, and the right-side panel + filters. The wiring needs also some special work but could look sick.
    I'm waiting for the 100% white case or version 2 for the build test. I really like the placement of the front ports when the case is used at a 45-degree angle inside a custom glass/mirror case. I just hope there will be an improved version soon.

    Super excellent review. Heard a lot of Hype over this case. I like the style and flexibility for better cooling. I not a fish tank case guy, but it’s unique for sure. Disappointed a little about the thermals, but since it’s all glass a water cooled GPU would work much better and totally look awesome. A show piece case that looks nice. Steve, consider iBuyPower is trying to improve by moving away from the bottom tier of cheap components. Companies (as you know) need time (and management firing/hiring) to gain traction as they build capital. Hyte is a positive step forward for their company and maybe a possible turn around. I finished my first build last month using this case due mainly to your excellent review. I could not be more impressed and I can confirm that as a water cooled build this case is second to none for looks and aesthetics. I used 140mm fans on bottom and on the side with a 280mm rad and of course 360 rad on top. I designed it with all fans as intake except the rear. The result is an extremely well ventilated obviously positive pressure case that has been flawless. water cooling both the CPU and GPU left enough space to mount a D5pump/reservoir combo on the floor in the corner section that fills out the space nicely and looks fantastic. Because nobody has benchmarked this case configured as intended it's hard to say how it compares but in Cinebench R23 with an I9-13900k I scored 39577, all cores hit between 5900 and 6200 mhz with temps below 90c. I used the Asus AIOC. Various 3dMark tests with my 4090 EK water cooled GPU showed temps between 45-52c depending on the test. Thank you again for your excellent content and for being so instrumental in my first PC build

      The only major loss with this, is all the AIB TB3 cards are full height. So you cant use them unless you get a second riser and stick be behind the GPU. Only works for dual slot GPUs. There are 2 sets of standoffs for the vertical mount.

    I personally just built a computer with this case, and I'm air cooling it as well for the time being. I was mainly attracted to this case because of how open it is and how much of a display piece it looks like. However, being a mechanical engineer and having worked with a lot of cooling systems in industry before I can see some issues with the cooling for this case that you pointed out (especially the grating obstructing flow that will quickly clog up with dust/hair)
    But man does it look good.

    • @mesa176750
      @mesa176750 Před 2 lety

      I do feel that for air cooling some of the placements feel awkward. For example, typically when you place a fan you want to see the pretty face towards you and the part with the structural brackets towards the hidden area. You can't really do that with this case in the normal sense. In most standard cases you pull air from the front and push it out the back, and you can mount the fans in such a way that you won't see the support frame of the brackets on the front fans (and if the front panel is transparent you'll see the cool front part of the fan as well)
      This case however wants you to face the side fans inward, which therefore pulls air out of the case instead of pushing it into the case. This means that in order to get proper air flow, you need to push more air into the case. I'm still mulling over how I want to do that but I feel my options are limited. The bottom fans are currently designed to pull air in sure, but I had to flip the back fan to also pull air in, and I feel its not enough yet. I might consider putting 1 of the 3 top fans (the one closest to the back) pushing air into the case and make the other two top fans pull air. I think that since the back fan would mix with the back top fan in this scenario, it would mix cool air in before hitting the CPU and then the CPU pushes air towards the side fans and front top fans as well. The bottom fans mostly would be pushing their cool air onto the GPU in this instance.
