- Blitzball is the main mini game in FFX as you will need it to gain Wakka's Overdrives and power-up his celestial weapon.
You will also get a handy Strength Sphere if you manage to win your first actual Blitzball match in Luca. This guide will help you give easy wins even with using the default team.
This trick basically involves exploiting how the AI is programmed in Blitzball. You can win your way by keeping the same team in Aurochs. You will need to control the character manually in order to do this. For starters, you press the Triangle button of your Dualshock 4 when the match begins and pick the Manual A option. Manual A is easier since all you have to do to accurately control your character is to look at the mini-map located at the lower right corner. Also take note of the Square button which you can use anytime to command your character to Pass, Shoot, or force interaction with the opposing player near them.
For easy references, we will be using the default Besaid Aurochs team. Your main objective is to draw away the opposing team's Left or Right Defense, and Midfielder as far as possible from your Forwards. If you are using the default team, then your Left and Right Forward will be Tidus and Datto respectively. Your Defenses will be Jassu and Botta, and your Midfielder will be Letty. You will be using the last 3 mentioned to lure away the players from your Forwards. Before the opponents get really near to the one handling the ball, press Square so that you can pass the ball without them trying to break you. Just keep passing the ball between the Midfielder and Left or Right Defense until you feel that they are already far enough from Tidus or Datto. Bonus points if you managed to also lure one of the Defense players as that means one of your Forwards will be free. Once you feel that the distance is enough for one of your Forwards to be free, then pass it to them. Once your forward is holding the ball, get as close to the goal as possible so that the value of Shoot doesn't decrease. This will allow them to Shoot the Blitzball without someone guarding them, and having the max Shoot value.
There will be instances where for some reason whatever you do, you can't bait the Left or Right Defense of the opposing team. That is okay as your Forwards have high Endurance stats. The Defenses of the opposing team will have high Attack too. There will be situations where it all goes down to 50-50 as the value of your Forward's Endurance stat is almost the same as the Defense's Attack. I recommend always trying to Break them and Shoot near the goal as much as possible. Breaking them allows your Forward to be free to Shoot without anyone guarding them, and by being near to the goal, the value of the Shoot stat won't decrease as it travels since the goal will be right in front of them. If ever they managed to steal the ball, then just repeat the process once your team gets the ball back.
Your Defenses tend to have a high Endurance stat too. If they have the ball and are up against just the Forward of the opposing team, then they can just force interaction by pressing Square and just picking the Dribble command. This will be one less player trying to steal the ball from you for a few seconds.
If you have Jecht Shot for Tidus, then you have more leeway as you can still have two players guarding you. Using Jecht Shot will stun both of them. To do this, don't break anyone and choose the command Shoot. Then you will be given a list of the techniques that you can use. Pick Jecht Shot. It's animation will show stunning the two players, then Tidus kicking the ball. It can only stun two players so if there is another one guarding, they will block the ball and lower its value. Jecht Shot costs 120HP to pulloff so if you are just starting out Blitzball, you might only be able to use it once.

I forgot to add this in the video. If your team is leading and you have the ball atm, you can keep passing the ball between your Left Defense (LD) and Right Defense (RD). The timer still goes on during the passing animation, so you can keep doing this until the match ends. This can be useful if you do not want to risk the opposing team getting points. You can also try going behind your own goalkeeper while the ball is in your possession, as there are times the AI won't go after you.

I tried it three or four times without even scoring a goal but once i watched this it helped me finally beat the first blitz game. Passing it back and forth until you see an opening really helps, it was 2-2 and went into overtime but i finally won! Once you can break through a defender take a shot, you most likely have got a goal.

Been using this tutorial to try to win the first match we play. It's been about 3 hours :) non stop retrying & watching those unskippable cutscenes. It's a great minigame
After all these years I’ve finally decided to do Blitzball. I had to learn the tutorial and just study what effect did what and how to engage the enemy. I’ve slowly and surely have begun to win matches. It’s been fun. I have yet to do manual though. I’ve just been relying on RNG.
Manual is by far the best way to go bout it. Brother is a cheat code with his speed stat and great passing even at lvl 1. Swimming towards opposition draws em to you and he can swim away from everyone bar guados. Once you draw the whole team and have a gap, pass to the forward. No defenders. Unopposed shot. Goal (for al bhed with that damn goalie you'll additionally need sphere shot and luck, 18 catch at lvl 1 is busted)
Yea manual is where it's at. Keep at it, blitzball is so much fun when you get some good players and learn the game

The other teams swarms my player out of nowhere I can’t get the defenders away because their stats are so high they’ll get the ball no doubt, the team will be right in your face all the time how is there any strategy in the game I feel like that’s why wakka comes back because it’s an excuse for the storyline to lose the game lol wtf screw the creators for this infernal mini game you pretty much need Jecht shot to win at all

Score 2 point with Tidus then hide in you goal it makes the character to circle around and wait for the time to go down and you win congrats :)

This comment might be late but this is not the easiest win. The easiest to win in the match against will be just make Letty pass to Tidus, move him (Tidus) to Jassu and let them both pass between each other for the entire first half of the game. This will make Tidus level jump as high as level 5 or 6 and for some case even 7. This will ensure that you will get to use Jetch shot 1 or 2 time as you have enough hp to do so. If you dont have Jetch Shot, Sphere Shot can also be use and in a way it is a much more better economically and time saving than JS. With this, you will have a sure fire win as 1.Tidus level is higher hence his SH is also higher 2. Tidus have enough HP to dribble. 3. As his SH is higher, he can shoot a bit further rather than at the mouth of the goal. And lastly, this is proven to be the most efficient way to do it that even a person who lack of sport strategy can do it easily.
Passing a lot and being patient was what finally helped me to win the game after about trying it about 20 times and watching the damn cutscenes every time.
@@PeterLE220 times? Which version are you playing? If its steam, I will straight reload the game if Letty did not win the ball the first ball played and reset till letty get the ball. Because Graf cannot out tackle Tidus in the 2nd half if he did not gain level 4 and Tidus level did not reach level 5.
@@daegograndynte2771I play the PS Vita version. There you have to endure the cutscenes. But I didn't finish every game. I often quit even before the halftime when I was two points behind.
I ran Tidus, Wedge, Brother, Zalitz, Ropp, and Jumal and I haven't lost a single game yet. just make sure you take advantage of Brother's speed and draw in as many defenders as possible, leaving Tidus and Wedge free to rack in on points. I end most most matches with 6-10 points easily. I hope this extra bit of info helps my fellow blitzball players

@@alekgutierrez7976 Original Auroch player are great player if you just level them up enough, actually i never replace the Auroch team, i used them to get all wakkas overdrive and sigil and havent lose any single blitzball game, Datto is the third fastest player in the game if i remember just level him to boost his stats, also letty his a good passer with enough level and equiped with nap pass 3 you can put all of your opponent to sleep, Tidus and Wakka is great shooter specally if you get their personal tech, jecthshot 2 for Tidus and Auroch spirit for Wakka, Bliztball is really fun to play just learn how to properly play the game, and the rest is easy, my original Auroch player is level 99 including tidus and wakka
Just recruit brother and let him swim circles around everyone. He's literally the best player, fast and easy to level and great on offense and defense.

@@techs2996 wait until you see him on the airship and then go recruit him. Down side is you can't play any blitzball until then otherwise he could be recruited by someone else, but trust me he is worth the wait and really is all you need.
@@techs2996 nothing gets pass brother and wedge up front. wedge is next to the blitzball stadium. a guard between the corridors that lead to the team cabines. if u wanna go even crazier get the ronso from per 4 as a midfielder

I want an up to date blitzball game...like maybe dissidia but with blitzball. Make it even like a "Mario Party" game where there are several mini games from past final fantasys. A chocobo treasure hunt, a moogle story game, snowboarding, racing, a shooting gallery, a boss rush mode where different FF characters fight other FF bosses from other games....spit balling here. What are other unique mini games that you can think of that could be in a Final Fantasy Mini game Collection?
Doesn't work at all tried 10 times and it fails every time due to the encounters being 100% random
Yeah it's annoying as hell!! Took me 10 times too. I'd break a tackle and immediately sent into encounter with the same person if I tried to dribble with tidus

I remember in the Original game, you play the league at least for 2 game then hope that the Ronso Goal Keeper become a Free Agent. He has a very high catch level. That's the best hack to start with.
Actually jumal is the best Goal keeper for early blitzball game, he start with 14 catch and already had super goalie tech, hes a free agent located at Luca
Really good tip make sure to get the Jecht Shot. and equip it when you hit 3 and can equip skills. then just basically follow this guide but don't worry about keeping the other team away as much since the Ject shot will clear 2 of them out, and 3 if you keep going for the Jecht shot 2. Literally after like 4 games Tidus Hp will be enough to do the Jecht shot twice per half and the game basically beomes get the ball to Tidus
Best way to Level up Besaid Aurochs teammate with all their Techs is to release them and sign other players. Make sure they get sign by other team, once you leveled up to 50-99. You can resign them back with level up and full techs set.
Doesn't help me at all. They always gang up on my team and go right through me. I can never seem to get to them when they have the ball. It seems like for me you have to be touching them but for them they can stop you from a slight distance away and every team I've ever faced has stats way beyond all of my players. Every time I've gotten ahead of them they seem to go into overdrive and score multiple times in a row. And when I do get through them or get away they're catcher always gets the ball leading to them scoring anyway. This minigame is so broken its not funny and not enjoyable in the slightest. When your sports game is designed to incorporate a huge amount of luck you know you screwed the hell up. At least with the stupid lightning dodges I know its completely my fault for having crappy reflexes and a slight amount of luck but it seems no matter what I do I can't win a single game of blitzball.

The first mistake usually made by other player olaying Blitzball is their really didnt know what their doing, the first you have to understand is the player stats, try to learn what your player best stats and what their good at, for example if your player is low at endurance avoid him holding the ball for long time, pass the ball imediately to player with high endurance or pass, also avoid getting contact with to many opponent player, swimm far as much as possible, if you see two or more opponent go towards you, press square or what ever the button you use, to pass the ball of your player that free, another tip, if you want to leveled up fast your player keep passing with your two player with the short distance as possiple, the higher the passing tech you use the more expirence you get
@@UltimateDespair98 I have trouble with that too, I took my main trophy from the blitzball tournament game in Luca and took off with that. If that took me 2hrs, to win a game how can l win 250 games and get all of Wakkas overdrive’s

This is the best thing about this game it’s so addictive and challenging. I made 8-0 on the first game with the jecht shot lmaoo and that garbage ass team they give you. Took me 3 hours worth of restarts to get that good at it.

Blitzball can be quite confusing for first timers but once you understand the terms, how each value works, and how to use the AI's limitations to your advantage, it will be easier. Hopefully Tidus have also learned Jecht Shot while on the boat, as it will be very useful for the 2nd half of the game. Good luck!

I have a love hate relationship with this minigame but I'm someone that loves to do everything a game has to offer for me, this video was insanely helpful.
My main issue, if you want the best weapon for Wakka, you have to sit through a 10 minute cutscene, give or take thus even if you could like the minigame they placed it in such an unflattery manner. The first game expects way too much unlike other minigames that've come from FF series. if you could skip the cutscene I think most people could enjoy it but the cutscene for people trying to get a weapon/good scenario will have little love for it.
The rng is strong and it's kinda like playing Kaizo Pokemon ironmon
I can stress enough how much I hate all the side quests in this game. Locking the ultimate weapon of a character behind a pool soccer minigame you actually need to develop skill to play, IN A FINAL FANTASY GAME, is beyond stupid.

Boohoo ya cry baby and it’s under water rugby. It’s a challenge for weapons that basically break the balance. They ignore defense stats so what you want it behind some half baked fiend? Pansy. Fricken pansy. Blitz isn’t even that hard my guy.

I waited until i got the airship to really start the blitzball grind. I made sure though to Hire Wedge, Myu, Ropp and Zarizz before adding Brother on the airship for an easy grind. Myu in goal, Ropp and Zarizz in defense, Brother as midfielder and Tidus with Wedge as the strikers. Its really easy to win with that team
Yeah, back when I was a kid and first played blitzball I hated it, but later when I got the remaster on PS4 I tried it again, fiddled with the control and figured out the minimap trick, and recruited…what was his name? Kyuu? He’s a crusader just outside Djose Temple after you get Ixion. Before I knew it I was averaging 10 point victories and farming items.
I could never do well in the Blitzball games. Even the first time I played FFX I lost the first game. Then I learned the Jecht Shot, scored my first goal and then stayed on my goalie side and watch the opposing team moving in circles.
This one tutorial helped me more than any other game tutorial

I really wanna give it a few tries to get it right. Your tech definitely helps for sure. Buuut, maybe some other time. I'm on my first ever play through and don't feel like resetting multiple times, especially since you can't skip the cutscenes leading up to the match. Gonna have to take the L on this one. Annoying that they make Tidus up to be this badass blitz player, and gets shit stats, only saving grace being his dad's trick shot.

The effing computer saved my jecht shot when ca was an 8 and the ball was atleast at a 10 when it got to the goal. Then they went down and non of my defenders registered as in range despite being literally on top of him and they shot, ball got to my goal at 10 vs 10ca and goes in and I lost. Most infuriating ffx experience
I know right.. But how tf did you have 10 for the keeper.. I only has 5 xD.. I just played the game when the blitz time.. It was my dad who played it b4.. So idk much
he should have he really mentioned that math those not apply to this game. they programed it in a way that eno matter the odds there a always a chance for failure. so frustrating

How come every time I press Square to pass, it constantly pits me against enemy opponents? Reading in the in-game tutorial doesn't help in this other than press Square to pass or shoot. Had this issue with shooting too. Times where no opponent was near me and when I press to shoot, they suddenly instant transmission right in front me.
I've had that as well. It's so frustrating! No matter how far away I get they always get to me and then they take the ball and score.

i dodged and passed the ball for my life and watched my forwards swim around in little circles not moving to the left at all..... fml blitzball is so broken. I even used left side formation to see if they would move and everyone just swims in a tiny circle.... Can anyone explain why all my players just stick to the right side when i'm buying them so much time? Sometimes my forwards just swim towards my own goal when i need them to move FORWARD.
It depends on the formation you use, if you learn other formation like center attack or counter formation your forward will go near your opponent goalie even youre far away

Awesome vid! But I noticed one issue with it. You stated that Botta has high END stat. That is not true. Jassu is perfect for this strategy though as he has high END and speed.
My favorite part of this game mode is after I'm done wasting my time with the god awful mechanics the entire enemy team levels up and gets infinitely better while mine can barely get to level 2
The last three times I tried this match, even when I hit the manual v aut select button, game went straight to auto and wouldn't let me switch it back. This game wants you to fail.

I remember watching my cousin play this when i was a kid and when it was time for blitzball he kept doing it over and over and i was bored to tears. No he didn't know about the rewards he literally just thought it was fun. We don't talk anymore
Losing the tournament really made me upset even though the game goes on, I felt really bad for wakka and company. Probably the only thing I hate about this game, and the cheesy voice acting doesn’t make me near as mad as this blitz ball shit did

Brother is a freaking LEGEND. I remember recruiting him once knowing nothing about him and when he had the ball, my mouth dropped at how fast that dude was moving! Kept him ever since!

I don't care what any of you say... I have tried this for two hours with several different methods. I get the ball, they swarm. there's no passing. there's no anything. occasionally i get lucky and get a pass off here or there. but to say this is skill is stupid. it's not. I've watched all these videos over and over. The computer doesn't move that way against me. Sorry, but the video should be called "hope to get lucky"
Reminds me of that stupid f*ng card game from VIII... I'm a completionist... so didn't finish that game when i couldn't get the RNG to work early on and will probably stop playing this one as well... no sense continuing if i can't do everything...
It took me 3 OT's to win, but it's possible. Every OT, the players gained a lot of XP, so it's easier to level the opponents
there are many videos trying to help but I have not found a single one that does yet I have never ever won a single game of blitzball in the 20 odd years this game has been out no joke :-(
its not as simple as keep passing the ball around all the time in first half because you dont allways get the ball at the start & when the enemy team shoots thats it your screwed
I was enjoying ffx until suddenly I was expected to play a sports game. I knew sport was present in the plot but I was hoping it would have been done in a cut scene with at worst a few quick time events. Many people love sport games and maybe the whole football like thing is a phobia for me
With this video I think I would be able to get through the first game, but I'm deterred by the fact it seems am just doing the first game and there will be more and from what this video suggests there will be many more teams and games built on this.
I probably should have done more research before starting the game (there are countless classic jrpgs I've not played) and becoming invested in the plot but sport games really aren't my thing and this is a bit of a blow. I assume the sequel has the same sports element.

Yes, techniques and leveling your players makes the game easier, just started another playthrough, my team is Tidus, Wedge, Zev Ronso, Ropp, Zalitz and Jumal, all of whom can be recruited very early

The first game is winnable. Every time I've replayed the game after my very first playthrough, I've won the first match
It's winnable but it's definitely stacked for you to lose. Remember it was my 1st time I won score was 2-2 Titus left Wakka returned and last 10 seconds he got the game winning goal to win 3-2. Also Luzu and Gatta lines will vary if you win or lose. So it's built within games coding that it's a possibility.
It's winnable with Jecht Shot and some luck
Worst thing in any final fantasy actually makes me not want to play 10 at all

Got Brother, Ropp, Jumal, Nimrook, Tidus, Wedge, Botta, & Larbeight... I'm hoping this team rocks... haven't tried yet, just recruited most so far
I can vouch for Wedge and Brother. Both are great.
Drop jumal and its literally perfect. Once wedge has comparable def stats to ropp (he 100% will at about lvl 12) make larbeight the other fwd. Perfect team till lvl 80
Hmm, I could pass the ball in the tutorial, but can not pass in the actual tournament. Didn't change any keybinds and tried using mouse a keyboard as well as controller. Tested hardware and works as intended, and keybinds are what they are supposed to be. Anybody else had this problem, this is literally ruining the entire game for me to the point where I don't want to play anymore.

I love blitzball, as a kid i hated it cuz i didnt ubderstand it. But its actually dope and my team slaps, Brother is straight up Micheal Jordan. You dont even need Titus, i can 5-0 every match with just Brother.

Just finished playing the secret to winning this shit, after you follow homie directions, once you get the ball swim all the way in the corner to the right for some reason the AI gets I confused and in the corner it will be just one guy beat his ass and keep dribble and once close enough pass to tidus and shoot
Basically just play like Pep Guardiola's tiki-taka football style 😂

I get confused because the camera angels are horrible and you can’t see properly why the horrible camera angles? Everywhere I go there is the opposing team I can’t win at all, they come out fog nowhere gang up on you and have better stats my team sucks
Use the map for positioning. Personally, I have never used the main camera itself because of that.
I dont even get the chance to pass without getting encountered by 3 opponents. Jecht shot, free score? Cant even get near the enemys goal. 4 attempts and 2 failed jecht shot and im almost done with this game.
I suck at Baseball in Real Life AND if I ever were to play Fifa. (Dammit Tifa. Why you gotta have a similar name to that game everyone's obsessed with?)

Blitzball is a joke. Completely fixed. I thought jecht shot is garaunteed goal? I’ve had it come from 14 straight to 0 in front of the goal cause he’s saved it. I thought if your endurance is higher you break them? Cause I’ve had it where I’m 3 higher and they still take the ball off me. Makes no sense and it’s as if it’s fixed. They can score from past the halfway line in there own area but yet I can’t score jecht shot Infront of the goal🤢🤢🤢🤮

I hate this trash mini game but only reason I'm playing because I want the Waka weapon, man I'm frustrated with these pethatic mini games that take months to west of time to finish
This game is ABSOLUTELY bugged. I just lost 4-0 they kept blocking EVERY SHIT even the wide open ones and the cpu were making shots from half field with 2-3 of my players blocking the damn thing. I felt like I was going to smash my phone. I BARELY beat the first time.
In the first game just pass the ball to jassu and swim around then shoot with tidus in the last minute. It's definitely winnable
I manage to pull off a 5 point win on that one with a similar strategy. Not specifically waiting until last minute, but getting tidus free for the easy shots was definitely a big score

Can someone please explain how to change characters? Can I change my goalie and make him a forward? How do I rearrange my blitz team? Literally the most frustrating things. I literally had a jecht shot miss point blank at the goalie with no defenders a straight 16 shot score and the enemy goalie caught it. I fking Hate blitzball. The idea could be fun if the rules, numbers, and luck factor were so awful
