Ah Yes, the great Yes Schizm of 2008. That other Yes is weak now. Alan can't play drums any longer, Chris is gone, and Jon Davison is not Jon A. Geoff's cannot match Wakeman's ability to play the Wakeman parts and Steve's playing are just not the same.

I keep finding these gems! Thank you for your work. Yes is my favorite band of all time. It is kind of convoluted now, but to see the three core members playing together is simply wonderful. Sadly, this version of the band is no longer. Breaks my heart. But we have these memories of what could have been.

Thanks for sharing ! Jon & Rick are my most favourite. It’s a shame Steve was not here . But that’s life we all move on, and go our own way in life. We are very lucky see this , I grow up with Yes all the way back to 1972 with Close to the Edge, and after hearing it I had to buy all their albums from the time they started. So Close to the Edge is 46 years old,, and the band Yes is a lot older than that. Not many band can follow that ! So thank your lucky stars we still have this today with 2 Yes bands playing. Our great YES music!

I love all you fans talking about what is what is not Yes. Rick Wakeman has said for years and years that he expects the Yes name to become like the New York Philharmonic. He says that other members agree with him. They want the name to continue with younger musicians and new members well after the current musicians retire and die. I fully expect there to be a Yes 70 years from now. Yes has had so many members that it only makes sense. It's not a BAND. It's a CONCEPT of music, and as Rick says, the members who are in the band at a particular time will have the responsibility and task to carry the Yes music forward into the future. BTW - if it weren't for Trevor Rabin and what he did for Yes in the 80's, Steve Howe wouldn't be playing in any version of Yes right now. The band was DEAD before 90125 gave the Yes name the massive boost it needed to move forward to where it is still playing today. He's been as important as any other member of the group. Musically, I love "I Am Waiting" every bit as much as "Heart Of The Sunrise." It's all fabulous. And I can't wait to see what young, budding musicians do with the Yes name in the future. They could all blow our minds and take the music beyond "Fragile" and "Close To The Edge."

    Thanks for uploading both parts.
This is my comment I posted on part 2:
I saw ARW -Oct 2016- at the Keswick, near Philadelphia. Blown away from the concert, 10th row. They looked great, sound was incredible, and Jon Anderson sounded better than ever!
(I was a little disappointed though in the setlist that nothing from Talk was not being performed).
It appeared that this new tour was just a repeat of last year-
UNTIL NOW- on this video (Thank you for uploading!)
First time I'm hearing this - "I am waiting" (since seeing Yes playing on the Talk tour in 1990 (with the original lineup on the record- Anderson, Rabin, White, Kaye and Squire- (Billy Sherwood was also on the record and tour).
Based on what Trevor Rabin said during the interview before their ARW tour, they were planning on playing Shoot High Aim Low- one of their best songs, IMHO. He added there is enough songs to play at least 4 hours. No problem!
You know Roundabout and All Good People are mainstream commercial and obligatory for old and new fans, but after seeing it done live over 20 times, I wouldn't be upset having it deleted and replaced with more tunes from Talk and Big Generator- the ones Trevor Rabin helped create.
Perhaps as they are rehearsing the songs they haven't played for years, they will be playing the more complex music- Shoot high has some fantastic guitar work from Trevor, including the riffs with the twanging effect. Between that and their super musicianship, the slightly different variations they're giving to the songs they've been playing live, and Wakeman's even more layered keyboards, coupled with acoustically perfect venues- It's tempting to see then again- except for the insane ticket prices. (I lucked out when i went to the box office and got excellent seats at face value).
They still haven't performed any of the new music they apparently have been working on.
Nonetheless just seeing this band-the real Yes is mesmerizing.
No doubt, they're here to stay!

Even though i felt like they skiped some of the songs i was expecting (such as Starship Trooper or Siberian Khatru), but most the things they played were great, and at least they had much fun playing them, unlike deadly serious mr. YES was never just one individual but there are faces in this outfit that have never played with YES and are yet to do so. The right to the name YES is not with ex members but remains with the currrent line up. With the departure of Peter Banks YES became a band of constant changes. To say this is YES is an insult to the memory of Chris Squire.

Is this a "How many YES reunion tours are there now?" question? Do I have to see ALL of them or just the ones with surviving members? It's kinda gruesome to think someone is profiting on the "see them before someone else dies" theory. I saw them 3 times with Anderson, White, Howe and Squire (in varying configurations during the 70s and 80s) and I don't think seeing them again is going to be just as satisfying. It's like the third act of "This Is Spinal Tap" when they broke up.

Although I loved the show that I saw of this band in Philadelphia, and love this, as well, this sounds less like YES than the Steve Howe YES (official) band. I'm happy I can see both of these groups, but YES (original) has the more authentic sound, despite having no original members. (Ducking for cover, now)

    • @odreamsgivenday
      @odreamsgivenday  Před 7 lety +5

They sound like three full-on Yes musicians hanging loose and serving up some great material without worrying if they are note-for-note recorded versions. Leaving Alan aside, the quasi-legitimacy of everyone besides Steve pretty much reduces them to tribute band stand-ins, IMO. When I saw them later that week however I realized, this is basically the platform Steve needs/wants to do his own brand of Yes, which is basically what your are buying these days. He was nicely on (as they all were) Friday that week in SF. Last few tours shows I have caught with Steve have had a pretty detached, dialing in it aura - maybe just bad nights for him, but if he's not totally on, the rest is pretty so-so. Having Dylan seemed to add a lot of oomph to the whole show and I think Billy has settled in to his role and delivered some nice vocals. He's always added something to Yes, first saw him on Talk tour - I think transitioning to stand-in has been a bit of work, not so much in terms of musicianship just footing. I think "authentic" vs "inauthentic" is a less useful yardstick. I have to say IMO I have trouble with the notion that the Howe band is "at all" "authentic" insofar as there is a touring band with the sole (active) survivor of the band and whose total contribution is unquestionably the biggest, musically and shaping the band. They have done nothing significant since he left/was ousted; it is what it is. When Steve is on, the whole thing is worth the price of admission and the other guys hold up their end nicely.

Very well Put..Totally agree I do think the Steve Howe / Alan White band are basically a tribute act tbh...Where as Jon"s the original Vocalist Rick"s their Legendary Wizard (& Longest serving) keyboard Player from the Classic Line up & Trevor (IMHO) Brought them back from the dead in the 80s with their Biggest selling Most Successful albums & Singles
