  • Increasing your angle of attack with driver is an efficient method to gain distance off the tee. It's not just about club speed and ball speed the easiest way to drive the golf ball far is by improving your attack angle and you will obtain a high launch angle and lower spin rate and a lot more distance. It is a lot easier than it sounds and PGA Professional & Director of Instruction Thomas Campbell explains just how to hit the golf ball far with driver.
    You must move the ball position further forward in your address or towards your left heel. Additionally, you must increase the tee height. Once you have mastered increasing your angle of attack you will never have to worry about putting sky marks on your driver with a higher tee. A low tee height is a band aid for golfers that hit down on the ball with driver. The third huge gain is now the ability to play a driver with less loft. Simply a driver with less loft will have more ball speed and less spin. By increasing your launch angle with driver by improving your angle of attack with allow you to hit the golf bar far with a high launch low spin correction. With a driver your optimal landing angle is between 30-40 degrees with a high launch angle and low spin. If you are getting over 3000 rpms of spin with your driver there is a good chance you need to improve your angle of attack.
    Steps to Increase Angle of Attack with Driver
    1. Ball Position setup at least as far forward as left heel
    2. Increase the tee height.
    3. Lower the loft on your driver.

    We would appreciate seeing results for 90-95 MPH swing speed for not only this video but also for other demonstrations. Many of us don't generate your speeds.

      The process would be exactly the same with a lower swing speed. Max distance would just be less.

    I remember teeing off the top of a pencil when I was a kid with an Callaway Gig Bertha. Didn’t have Trackman but figured out that hitting up on the ball and launching it high got plenty of distance.

    Hi Guys, thanks for the tips. Wow, I'm definitely teeing the ball up too low (and maybe too far back). After watching this video I'm going to head to my local indoor range and
    focus on the Trackman numbers. Let me ask you. My driver swing speed is 90mph. Is a 10.5 degree loft (regular flex) an ok setup?

    Perfect video for me, I swing up on the ball and have got my loft set to higher 😮 ha ha

    So according to Trackman I am 5 degrees up on my attack angle but the flight is so low. Peak height of like 70-80 feet. What am I doing wrong? I am using an 11 degree head too.

    Swing Lab, maybe tell folks Loft is your friend when your swing speed is sub 100mph. Spin equals control. Do a comparison video with an older golfer sub 100mpg swing speed

    I still have negative attack with the ball even further forward than you guys play in the video...

    Tee it high and let it fly!!!! My mate was hitting his driver with a 0.2 angle of attack. Made him try a higher tee, same swing and he ended up hitting bombs!

    What if we hit the ball super high on the face, with the ball off our left big toe, with a low tee?

      Work on your spine angle at impact. Feel like your left shoulder if higher than your right and work on sweeping the ball off the tee. The club should not hit the ground - Thomas

    speed goes from 104 to 108...110... only the angle of attack? while the content is great... results may be misleading?

    • @swinglabperformancegolf
      @swinglabperformancegolf  Před rokem +4

      Every 1 mph of club speed can result in 3 yards longer. If keeping that constant that's up to 24 yards which is of course part of the equation but not all. So right around 300 yards with 104 club head speed When increasing your angle of attack you will obtain more club speed as well as you use the ground force more efficiently... But that topic is for another day. - Thomas

      AOA affects spin and therefore carry and overall distance but not clubhead speed.

    • @swinglabperformancegolf
      @swinglabperformancegolf  Před rokem +3

      Increase your angle of attack there is a good chance your club speed will improve from a more efficient swing by using the ground more efficiently in your swing. Not saying you will pick up 6mph club speed. Gains will be player dependent but it's worth a try & this has generated a good topic to discuss in another video on how to use ground forces to obtain more speed. - Thomas

      @@cgasuckstheoretically yes, but you're dealing with humans. By placing the ball further forward it changes how you release the club & use ground forces. Every fitter on earth has seen players gain a few mph from these changes alone. There's also a mental aspect, if you realize that you can swing faster and hit it farther without dreading snap hooking it I've seen players swing faster just because they aren't tentative with the club.
