    Excellent video. This type of recruiting video is just what the AF needs. Kidding. I know Freebird will appreciate the shout out and work on those issues. I know the rudder and authority has been an issue, and they did work to trim the vertical stabs down a bit. Guess they better get the saws out again...

    I just installed my FFbeast yesterday in my simpit. Amazing feel in the F14 and F4. F18 is more numb for sure but right now I am just using the default settings Roman loaded it with. Such a leap ahead of the VKB gunfighter base I used for years with 2 #50 springs on each axis and 200mm extension. It was always still to light feeling and over stressing the jet was too easy and so was screwing up the break turn. Now with the immense force of the stick and having to actually muscle it means that I am no longer accidentally rolling in too much nor am I pinning it to 8gs so easy and bleeding off energy in BFM. Pretty awesome stick base. I am running 2 Dell 240w psu chargers right now but a guy in Utah is making a really nice plug and play psu option that has a fan built in it that delivers more amps than the 2 Dell psus. It is also far less susceptible to overheating and shut down when running the FFbeast at above 50% power limit. In the f14 though the jet feels so alive. also it reminds me of when I flew an SF 260 years ago at Air Combat USA. The stick required a lot of muscle to get max performance and holding it in a loop and tight turns. No more mushy weak ass sticks.

Makes a ton of sense. Excellently flown, too! Very cool to see the mod has come this far. Have had high hopes for it for a while, but never committed to it. Sounds like it still has a bit of way to go, but it's getting there.

    I owned a vp rhino for 2 months. It great. I own a ffb beast for a week, and it’s… amazing. Both have advantages and drawback- main advantage of the rhino. Smaller and smooth as butter. No cogging at all. Drawback of the rhino, force aren’t very powerful even at max setting. Advantage of the ffbeast ? Amazingly powerful. I can set it up that at 8-9g in a phantom, I need to used both my arms to pull it for a certain amount of time. Drawback ? It’s bigger and there is a little bit of cogging but you totalla forget about it while flying

      Oh glad you finally got it! And nice to hear your comparison as everyone keeps asking me to compare the two! I do agree the forces with FFBeast do an add a huge amount to the immersion of flying a “real” jet!

      @dunbar555 Před 4 dny

      And the good news is that the manufacturer also taught me how to tweak the settings of the beast, and I managed to get rid of the slight cogging that I felt. So now it’s both smooth and very powerful, which is amazing.

    hey, stupid question, at the moment where you mention that rudder authority is lacking ( maple leaf maneuver ) - could it be that the irl pilots are using added thrust to one side to accelerate the spin (split throttle)?

    • @CommandT

      No I highly doubt they are splitting throttles!

  • @JonahDyer
    @JonahDyer Před 11 dny

    Can't a Raptor do that stall turn at 11:27 (in a lesser form) by lowering or killing the throttle on one engine? I've always thought that at least somewhat possible with enough engine separation on twinjets going back to the Tomcat, sans the whole 60 degree alpha bit. Or am I missing something?

    • @CommandT

      On my ffbeast, with a 7cm extension and a hornet stick, I am using like 20% of max force.. in a f4 phantom, if I pull 8-9g r more than 5-6 second I have to use my second hand to pull the stick and not get a cramp.. that thing is incredibly powerful. I have a vp rhino as well, and it’s nowhere close in term of force. The rhino feel smoother though (no cogging at all)

    How much fuel are you carrying relative to the IRL demo jet? Thinking this maybe explains some of the differences observed.

    • @CommandT
      @CommandT  Před 9 dny

      Doubtful I’d say. It’s 70% fuelled it was 1500kg by the last pass. And the real plane is more energetic in a lot the manoeuvres so I doubt the fuel is a huge factor

    • @mobius_d1
      @mobius_d1 Před 9 dny

      @CommandT Considering a flanker holds approx 20 000 lbs of fuel I'd say that's a significant amount of fuel. Try fueling for the time required + plus min fuel for rtb/divert. I'm thinking the real jet has below 50% and most likely 30-45% if it's strictly for a MAKS style airshow.
      Anwho, just my two cents..
      Great display on your part nonetheless

    • @CommandT
      @CommandT  Před 4 dny

    It's funny how people get so impressed with such mundane things as thrust vectoring... Pretty easy to experience thrust vectoring in real life - just get into a boat with an outboard motor. I'd say it takes much more skill to put it on the plane and trim it out properly while managing the turns and avoiding conditions like chinewalking.

      @@CommandT Probably for a reason? After all, many a spacecraft have TVC implemented - including Musk's rockets. Do you think engineering that is a piece of cake compared to aviation stuff? I surely doubt it's a much more complicated feat than the Tomcat's sweep-wing or the monstrous construct on F-35B. Speaking of which, did you know "Fat Amies" employ electro-hydraulic actuators (not to mention DSI)? Look that up. Now that's some interesting stuff.
      Recently, however, I was re-visiting the topic of TVC in fighter jets and found it to be more advantageous than I previously thought, but still... Do you really believe apart from the Russians nobody could pull that off? Honestly, if anything - I'm more impressed with the Rafales than I am with the TVC Flankers.
