  • #1 of a series of design practice sessions, i will have the step by step photos on my Facebook art page under a photo album. Also i will blog these with downloadable PDF images, to use the images to practice with.
    These are not intended for me to explain pinstriping design to you but just a video of my process.
    I am using paper, its quick and easy for me, you can use glass, metal, plastic, your mom's refrigerator. Just stay away from practicing on your furry friends.

    I’ve been a subscriber for awhile now and I recently got my first pinstriping kit. Pinstriping has been both a blast and discouraging at times. I’m really struggling w/ symmetry at the moment. I just have to remember it takes years of practice. I enjoy your videos! Thanks for all the tips.

      I practice on gridded paper from Hobby Lobby. I'll be switching to putting under glass soon as the drag is different from what I want to do most of my painting on. Just my .02

    Its great to see real time speed when you are pulling your lines and to watch how carefully you begin and end a line. Thank you for taking the time to post these! They help more than you know.

    I will never hold a pin striping brush, it is just totally enjoyable to watch a creative person with not only a stunning amount of knowledge, but also the artistic hands that allow the precision to create beautiful works of art. To take the time to help tutor others with your videos, speaks volumes about the person behind the art. Thank you for sharing your world with us mere mortals 🙏🏻

      It's fun to hold on too though. My dad taught this art form to me a long time ago. He painted Nose art on B52s in the late 50s .

    Jen I bought a pad for the office presentation easels that is 2 feet by 3 feet that's graph paper to put behind my practice glass aka table top, so my designs on a binder graph page with 1/4in. squares can be transferred to larger surfaces, with 1in. squares. Love your teachings. Thankyou so much. God bless. From Northern Canada.

    Watching you makes me want to try this. I haven’t touched a lettering brush in 20 years but I think I’m going to get me a pin striping brush and see if I can find my groove again. And there you are- spreading inspiration

    Practice is seems to always be on a flat vertical panel. How does that translate to having to stripe say a horse drawn carriage?
    I like watching you work!
    Keep up the good work!

      when it comes to striping object like cars, helmets, carriages etc one has to take into consideration while striping if that object has a curve and the painter needs to compensate for that with lifting or compressing the brush more, practice doesn't always need to be on a flat surface if one wants to take pinstriping seriously they should have the foresight/desire to practice on lots of different type of surfaces

    Something I'm noticing as I practice designs, they always seem fatter, squatter, and blocky. Is this just about flow control and repetition to get a feel for the process? Sort of like a kindergartner's chubby handwriting versus a Senior's script? Thanks for these vids. They are so informative and helpful!

    Hey Jenn do you use other brushes beside the mack I've been practicing with them and find them hard to make turns I seen the video on the kafka brushes they seem easier to make the turn

    • @HotRodJenPinstriping
      @HotRodJenPinstriping  Před 2 lety

      Mack makes all types of brushes even scrollers like the kafka, the Swords are only hard to turn if one doesnt know the mechanics or doesnt practice enough also there are different types of swords some are made in such a way like the coachline style brushes that yes turning is harder to do because those are intended to run straight lines. I have 0 issues turning mack swords series 10,20 and the king 13, & "signature series". Swords are held and used differently than the Kafka scrollers, its up to the user what they want to use, none of it is easy they all take time to master

      @@redslinesanddesigns Red rosin paper at home depot is 36 inches wide but might be heavier than you like. Another thought is white butcher paper but not sure of the width. Good luck in your search!
