Seiko quartz chronograph reset: How to fix misaligned hands (7T62, 7T92, etc.)

- When Seiko quartz chronograph hands don't reset properly, they're just misaligned and the fix is easy - you don't need any tools.
1. Pull the crown out two clicks.
2. Press the top chronograph pusher for two seconds. One of the hands will spin round, meaning it's activated.
3. Press the bottom chronograph pusher to move the activated hand. You can long-press to move the hand faster.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 if you want to re-align other hands.
5. Push the crown back in when all the hands are in the correct reset position.
Note: This repair applies to many Seiko quartz chrono movements, e.g. 7T62, 7T92, etc.

Perfect! I thought my elderly Seiko was finished. Your excellent video allowed me to completely restore my watch. Thank You!
Oh, that's great to hear! Well done (and thanks for the kind words).
Ahhh I thought I'd have to send my watch in to Seiko to get it repaired because the bottom dial was misaligned and this video helped me to fix it myself. Thank you so much!
After changing the battery in my SNDC33P1, the first watch my wife ever bought for me, the hands were misaligned and thought it was a lost cause.
You literally changed my day for the better! Everything is lined up now and I am very happy.
THANK YOU!
Phew, really happy to hear that! I hope it keeps good time for you for many more years. 😊
Ridiculous how good this video is. And I don’t even have this watch. But so well explained and straight to the point.

Nice choice of watch! I'm glad the video is useful but I hope you'll never need it. 🙂
I'm looking at this watch right now? What did you pay for yours @Ryunosuke?
Thanks! Did this with an old Pulsar.
Fixed my eta based watch with this trick as well, albeit slightly different. Glad to know that I don't have to open up the case to fix this hahah. Cheers mate 🍻

Thank you for your video! I almost sent my seiko in to a watch maker to fix! I thought my watch was gone.
Thanks mate !!!
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for making this video. When I got a Seiko SNDA25 from a thrift store, I didn’t even know how the chronograph worked but luckily I was able to find the instruction manual online too.
You're welcome! Sounds like you did well to find it. Wish my local thrift stores were like that!
This saved my watch 😂. Thanks!
Woohoo! I'm so happy I could help with saving another Seiko. Thanks for sharing. 😁
@@mizenitwice. This same video helped me 11 months later. 😂 I’ve come to say thanks again.
See you again towards the end of 2024? 😅
@@alexching1914 Hey, welcome back! Great to hear that it's still useful, and that your watch can be brought back to full health again. See you again, but I hope it lasts a bit longer before need the fix. 🙂
Thank you so much I thought I had broken my dads expensive watch he had given me just a few weeks ago.
Phew, that must've been stressful! You're welcome, and glad I could help out. 🙂
Great Video Just ordered this one. Make a video on how to operate this model.
Thank you - that's a good suggestion. I don't have the watch right now but when I do I'll make a new video about operating it.
@@mizeni Looking very much forward to that video; used to have a chrono with this movement, and about to have one once again (9000 series w/telemeter dial). Totally forgot about the reset function, so *big* thanks for this concise refresher.
@@barrettwbenton You're welcome! Glad it was helpful. 🙂
Greetings, mine the actual hour and minutes are misaligned, something you know about?!
Thank you for sharing this knowledge. Forgive the very naive question, but does the secondhand on a seiko chronograph not move unless the stopwatch function is being used?
Not naive at all - I wondered the same thing at first! You're right, the long seconds hand on nearly all chronographs (not just Seiko) does not move unless you start the stopwatch function. Instead, there's usually a smaller seconds hand, often in the left or bottom part of the dial, that rotates all the time. Sometimes it's hard to notice at first because it's so small. Hope that helps!
@@mizeni I really appreciate the response, thanks for the info :)
Thank you very much for your video.
You're welcome - glad you liked it!
@@mizenimy watch is almost 20yrs old. I've used the same watchmaker for battery changes for almost as long. After the last change, as soon as I left his shop and got to my car, I noticed the top sub-dial was stuck at the 4 second mark (I'm surprised the watchmaker didn't notice). My first inclination was to take it back to the watchmaker, but then I decided to first check online to see if there was any info which brought me to your video. Then the fix was easy as pie. Though I'm curious if I would have been charged to get the dial corrected had I brought it back in. Especially given how easy it was to fix. Anyway, thx again.
Do you know how to stop the seconds sub-dial from jumping every 2 seconds? I have already put a new battery in.
Oh weird. As you mention, that normally means it needs a new battery so it's strange that that doesn't fix it. I'd probably try a different new battery just in case (I've occasionally had old "new" ones that were too old and didn't work). Apart from that, perhaps it's a faulty chip inside that just thinks the battery low, but I'm not really sure. It might be best to ask on forums like www.thewatchsite.com just in case.
Hey thx for the tutorial! I thought my old Seiko was just broken…duh.
You're welcome!
I successfully went through the realign process, but every time I then use the stopwatch function start, stop, reset, the long second hand lands on a different spot other than 12. The sub-dials do rest correctly. Any thoughts on what’s causing the second hand to be I’ll behaved?
Hi Derrick. Hmm, hard to tell for sure but the seconds hand requires more power to move around the dial than the small sub-dial hands, so it could be a low battery that needs changing. Alternatively it could be old or dried up oil on the pivots in the movement, which is causing friction to stop the seconds hand before it reaches its proper resting spot. That would mean it needs a full service to get it back to normal. One other alternative is that one of the tiny plastic gears is getting worn, which would also mean it needs a full service.
I really hope it's just a battery change that would fix it, so that's the first thing I'd try, but if not, I don't think there's another quick solution I'm afraid - the next step would be a full service.
Thanks for this!!! Found my dad's old watch in his drawer today (he passed away in 2021). It's a Seiko Chronograph 7T94-0BL0. Had the band resized and a battery installed but hadn't noticed the jeweler hadn't fixed the misaligned hands until I got back home. Thanks to your video I was able to realign.
I'm really happy to hear that. Glad to have been of help and hope it helps you cherish your dad's memory.
thought my flighty was trash. good to know I was wrong.
Yay, another watch saved!
Thank you sir! Great video and help us! I have chronograph 7t92- 0br0, very rare in 2023. Big problem with watches wuth this movement is changing bracelets. Very small position on top for leather strap...
You're welcome - thanks for the nice comment! The 7T92-0BR0 is a really nice-looking watch but I see what you mean about the small area straps or bracelets. It looks difficult to change them.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
