2:30 The result of that peeling attempt looks even more surrealist than the butcher cover was to begin with. It also reminds me of the cover designs for the various Anthology volumes.

I bought my copy when in came out at Kmart in Tulsa. I immediately noticed the black triangle...I cranked up the tea pot and started trying to steam it off...but both covers wanted to come off...so I stopped. Still a framed prize possession in my music library. Thanks for the pressing info.

I own a mono 1st state. My father who passed away bought it and found one the year he died. I received it for Christmas that year as like a last gift. I have no idea how or where he found it but I framed it and is displayed on my wall. It is something I will never sell and will hold on to forever. My first state is very sentimental to me. I enjoy looking at it and thinking of my father. It is a prized possession.

Speaking of bootlegs, there was a release called Casualties that featured the butcher cover as well. It was patterned after the US Rarities album with other alternate versions of songs. It is quite good, actually, with a silver and black Capitol label and a professional looking sleeve. The sound quality is very good as well.

Got mine with trunk when album came out in '66, read in paper about Ringo's black & yep there it was. Did a decent job steaming it off. Youngsters may wish to know back then no promo of new albums (at least in Portland). Just go to "new releases" bin. I had enough for one album, but there was Beatles and Stones Aftermath. Decided Beatles because what if I don't like 11 min of Going home? Got Aftermath next week.... That trunk was part of hoax Paul is dead, as supposed to represent casket... still have album. What the heck....

When Capitol Records recalled the butcher covers to paste over a new photo for the album, Capitol president Allan Livingston kept a box of 20 butcher cover albums. He had 5-6 stereo albums (which are the rarest of the the rare butcher covers), and the rest were mono butcher covers. These were albums shrink wrapped, unopened, pristine condition. Before Allan died, he gave the box of butchers to his son to do with whatever he pleased. Allan even typed up a letter of authenticity for his son . Allan's son would take a couple of butcher cover albums to Beatlefests in Los Angeles to sell. One time he sold what he thought was a mono butcher cover, but ended up being a stereo butcher cover. These "Livingston Butchers" are the holy grail of butcher covers, and sell for up to six figures if you can get one.

I got mine due to one of the first Boston Beatles conventions in the seventies. In my inexperience, I put word out that I was in possession of the record store window display for Meet The Beatles. ( on which the heads oscillate by battery). So I traded with a very savvy New Jersey guy for the butcher cover and some cash, etc. Years later, the internet came out and the display sold at a rock and roll auction for 28K. And that was about ten or fifteen years ago. The only saving grace is that the guy who got the display from me is the real deal because I saw his name listed on the credits of the movie Imagine as a consultant. BTW, I paid twenty-five dollars for the window display in 1975.

Hi love your channel. I am stretching my memory a bit here but during my first stint in Japan, it would have been around 97-98, I came across some Butcher covers in a collectors record store. They had one priced at around 80000 yen and a couple of cheaper ones at around 20000 yen.The cheaper ones were clearly labled as reproductions with an up to date release date on the back. The cover from memory was an exact replica. Can`t give you any more info but maybe they were released as some kind of limited Anthology cash in. Just speculating.

I own either a first state or a third state that was peeled with very few flaws. Problem is that it is in a custom made plexiglass case that I had made for it in the seventies and so I cannot measure it. . Yes, I have owned this since about 1975. and the back cover has been slightly damaged by residual glue used where the case maker glued on a wall mounting bracket. And to top it off, I had removed the capitol vinyl to prevent "disc shaped memory" and that disc got damaged and tossed. Now am retired and at age sixty-six, bringing four boxes of records to a store for probably a few dollars because I cannot bear to toss them in the dumpster.

I bought a 3RD STATE butcher on ebay..... but I have doubts; it's slightly 'rough' but seemingly from the glue residue, and not the 'basketweave' texture of the original paper.
Now it could be that the texture has become clogged with glue, so has less basketweave feel.
I'm worrying that a smooth repro slick has been pressed convincingly to a y&t cover and covered with glue!
Anyone had any experience of this, or know how to positively identify it?

i think i have a Butcher cover with the trunk cover pasted over it (second state). It's mono. Has a number 3 on the back right. Rainbow label on black vinyl inside. Inner sleeve advertises other Capitol artists albums ... record has little scratches on it. Outer sleeve has some slightly worn corners, but still legible. Any value ? From passed away friend.
