I liked his talk show on Power 101 FM, I still miss him as a radio host since he left Malawi. Lincoln Bailey another Jamaican on another mission specifically the electricity project will go a long way taking Malawi to another level. We are grateful to have black people from overseas to set up such big projects that will have a profound impact on the economy of the country. Big up Xavier Murphy for the great work you are doing.

    I am a Jamaican-Canadian who in 2017 built a school for pre-schoolers in a small village in the south of Malawi. With the help of my friends I have built 2 wells, provided 6 sewing machines, carpentry tools, a maize mill and installed a solar panel in the village. I have a number of sponsors who support young people to attend secondary school, mostly girls.. So I have visited Malawi annually since that time - except in 2020 because of COVID. @Mark Watson Which is his own country?

    • @beverleysmith3629
      @beverleysmith3629 Před 3 lety +3

      @Mark Watson I agree with you, but I was born in England but I went to my families village to set up my own home and make a little contribution to St.Thomas. Jamaica is beautiful but complex and a lot of work needs to be done. People leaving the country over the years has had its impact on traditions, culture, values, principles, history, heritage, skills and these have not been passed down. The result a society were poverty is endemic and acceptable, crime rate previously unheard and a change in societal attitude. The situation is only going to get worse as the West struggle for their survival because Jamaica on so many levels is dependent upon loans and finance from the West and more recently China in the East.
      We are all to blame for the condition Jamaica now finds itself, as we understand and know our history. We understand how the former colonial powers and systems work and we have the skills and experience to bring about change, but maybe we have lost a levels of consciousness, which makes us close our eyes or just become armchair critics of the country we love so much. The solution maybe is to go to African and find ourselves and then return to Jamaica stronger.

    • @beverleysmith3629
      @beverleysmith3629 Před 3 lety +3

      @Mark Watson Crime is a major issue but the youth are left vulnerable to preditors only too willing to show them the way. We have to look at other factors which contribute to our failing in Jamaica. An outdated system of policing and police force, legal system and judiciary, based on the English common law, that needs to be restructured and revamped. Unemployment, underemployment and unfair working condition single parent left to raise children on their own, without the support of both parents or the extended family, overcrowding in houses, the lack of educational opportunities, skills training, entrepreneurship training, access to university, the lack of government or non governmental agencies, churches offering appropriate consistent support to youth, families or provide a solution where their is dispute or problem. And the list could go on but in summary, the basic fundamental rights of a human being in the 21st century are not being met.
      As for growth in the economy this is not true, putting the impact of Covid to one side, the economy is declining and unemployment has increased. In the east of St.Thomas there were 3 major employers, now there is only one left which is trying to hang on for dear life with significantly less workers and there is no replacement in sight. We are heading for a big blow up or crises, unless something is done soon, people are hungry and desperate.

    Lincoln, I wonder if you can remember me, I was one of the first people you met when you came to Malawi and I was the one who helped you get your house for rent in Area 9, which I believe you eventually bought. I am so happy you are still there. At that time you were on a short contract. Now you are speaking like a pure Malawian...the accent lol. You are a success story.

    Good interview, not easy with such an interesting guest, just letting him speak is counterintuitive but it works, I’ve been to Africa three times and cannot wait to go back for a longer stay.

    There is a Radio personality by the name of Lawrence O'Donnell who supports a cause there I think with UNICEF that builds desk for schools over there and also supports girls education seeing many girls off to college. Very interesting project.
